That was valuable information to find out. Very good for sharing it. I first saw it on patreon, but this information is useful. Similar to information I am hearing the P365 in Sig is huge in potential for the magazine but the gun itself is having some early production issues on reliability. Sometimes early production is the debug phase, but innovation comes at a price and we need innovation in all industrial applications for the sake of the future.

That's positive, now another owner is having the same problem hopefully the issue can be addressed and the magazines can have a spring change or upgrade. It's a great pistol and will be another good choice for home defence so reliability is key.

I also had the last round stovepipe problem with my wife's new EZ. I took four magazine springs from an unused Ruger LC9s and replaced the four S&W EZ magazine springs with these four LC9s springs. I tested the effectiveness of this effort by shooting 220 rounds through the EZ this morning. No glitches whatsoever. Not one. Now the Ruger has the stovepipe problem! The 9mm magazine springs fit the 380 S&W EZ magazines perfectly, but I do loose one round of capacity with the EZ. I had originally thought a firmer grip on the EZ was the answer. It isn't. I think S&W will eventually come out with a stronger spring for the EZ, but until they do, I'll continue to use the Ruger mag spring subustitution solution.

I have no scientific measuring device to make a measured comparison of loudness, but can tell you that my wife is sensitive to the 'loudness" of my 9mm Shield. She tells me that the report from this EZ is much more manageable to her hearing. She is wearing a new pair of Walker electronic muffs purchased at the same time we bought the EZ. That probably contributes to her favorable statement when comparing both guns. An investment in a quality pair of muffs, and possibly wearing them over ear plugs would seem to offer much protection from the noise. I too have Tinnitus and do not notice any problem from the reports of any gun I use. I have always used the brand mentioned above. It's not much more than a guess when I mention that I would estimate the "loudness" to be somewhere around 20% less than the nine. Good luch with this.
@wilycoyote90916 жыл бұрын
@@offshore4220 I know many folks will buy the "thin stylish" ear protectors because they look better and that's what everyone else has at the range. Problem is most of them do not block out the sound as well as some larger ones, in part because they just have less between you and the blasts. I got tired of having my ears ringing after trips to the range and bought a pair of 3M X5A muffs which are large and not fashionable at all, but 3M's rating is truly tested and not just some number they put on the box to sell them. When I put these on it is immediately noticeably quieter than the pair I used to use that were rated at 34 dB versus these rated at a real world 31 dB. If I was shooting a rifle I might switch back to my thinner ones because they might butt up against the stock, otherwise it is the 3M's from now on. I don't experience any more ringing in my ears when I leave the range so hopefully I won't be needing a hearing aid down the road. If you want true protection it would be hard to beat these, and they're not too expensive either as they're essential meant for industrial use, but work great at the range.

I love his videos..... they are honest and he’s spot on. I have put a few hundred rounds through mine using various ammunition. I have had a few failure to feed on the last round. But the more I shoot, I have not had it to continue. I am new to carrying and I love the grip safety. I purchased the model without the thumb safety. I love it. Feel very safe carrying and last thing I want is to remember to check the external safety. I have small hands and have never had one issue with the grip safety in shooting at the range..... just a fun simple pistol. If I were under duress, I am certain my grip will be pretty intense anyway. The grip safety gives me confidence in carrying safely and yet it’s ready when I pull it. Great review as always.

I bought one of these for my mother, she is older with arthritis. The gun worked well for her, but she moved to a facility that didn't allow guns, so I took possession. That said, this is not a 'girl or old man gun.' It is hella-fun to shoot and has stopping power to be reckoned with. Anyone who disagrees let me pump 3 rounds rounds in you with it and see where you stand (if you can). Solid gun with an easy slide and good recoil compensation. Quick back on target. Very nice gun. Added bene, makes for a nice concealed piece...

I have been wanting a single stack defensive pistol for carry. I was impressed that I can get a full 4 finger hold on the pistol and its just the right size for me, and alot of people for that matter. I sold my SR9c and brought this pistol home. I have no worries being less powerful than my 9mm in a civilian defensive pistol job. Its fairly light and I barely notice it is there and it will even fit in my jeans front pocket easily if I didn't use my owb holster. I like that is has a 3.7" barrel so it picks up some fps over the standard 380 acp. The only hollow point ammo I had a couple of feeding issues with were rounds with a conical shaped bullet,,like a Critical Defense of XTP for example. I have no trouble with the Federal 99gr HST or the 102gr Ultimate Defense aka Golden Saber that are shaped more like ball ammo. I have had the tip clog with denim now and then in some gel tests I have done though with both of those brands of ammo. Too bad it doesn't like Critical Defense, but maybe with more break in time it will chamber them better. I will try them again after a few hundred rounds. For a defensive pistol I find it very accurate. I believe the longer barrel and the full hand grip aids with this as well. Easy to keep in under a 4" group at 25yds and 2 " groups at the standard 7,10,15yd targets. Great trigger as well, better than many more expensive pistols I have owned in the past. It was just what I was looking for caliber aside..Nothing wrong with 380acp once you find an brand that works correctly. Penetration has been consistent with both HST and Ultimate defense over 12"...It goes to 20-22" if it clogs the tip. Coming from a guy who loves his Ruger GP100's in .357 Magnum losing that much energy in a shot may worry some people. But they are in the 200ft. lb. of energy range and with practice and proper placement it is more than enough to do what it was intended to do...Plus I'm never finding myself leaving the pistol at home being so nice to carry....Sorry long post,,but just wanted to share my experience with the .380 EZ..its really for everybody.

From S&W: Like any firearm, the function of the M&P®380 Shield™ EZ™ Manual Thumb Safety pistol can be influenced by the type and quality of ammunition used with the pistol. In the case of the M&P 380 Shield EZ Manual Thumb Safety, we have found that in very rare circumstances, ammunition that produces a high level of felt recoil can cause the manual safety to move from the fire to the “safety on” position during firing. Should this occur, you will not be able to fire the next round unless and until the manual safety is reset to the fire position. At Smith & Wesson, we are committed to designing and producing firearms that meet the highest quality and performance standards. To ensure that every Smith & Wesson handgun meets our standards for reliability and performance, as of April 4, 2018, we have engineered the manual safety so that it will be less susceptible to the influence of ammunition weight, velocity and loads. Any M&P 380 Shield EZ Manual Thumb Safety pistol produced before April 4, is eligible for a no-cost upgrade. To determine if this consumer advisory applies to your pistol, please utilize our serial number verification tool.

I found the Colt very comfortable to operate and the accuracy was superb. Also, the punch of a .45 compared to a .380 is undeniable. However, this .380 offers a quick reload magazine, and the weapon's operation is simple and efficient. Effective self-defense is accomplished with a decrease is carry weight and ammo cost. Also, the accuracy of this weapon is outstanding. My expectations for a handgun are met with this pistol. The idea that the M&P .380 Shield EZ is a sell only to those who have a deficiency with larger calibers is preposterous.

This was my first pistol, and I couldn't ask for a better entry level handgun. I've put several hundred rounds through it, and only had 1 malfunction so far (a failure to feed which I'm blaming on the cheap Czech ammo I was using). My only complaint is that even though I have small hands, some times my thumb will turn on the side safety after firing. The first time it happened I was confused. There are two solutions. Either hold the safety down with your thumb (which feels awkward at first but you get used to), or get the model without the side safety. I love this pistol, and despite the hate I've had directed my way because of its caliber, I feel confident in its capability to keep me and my loved ones safe. Also, I'd like to remind everyone that the type of ammo you are using (especially in self defense) is what will make or break any gun. G9 external hollow points are nasty. Keep up the good work Hickock!!!!!

Great timing putting out this video as I just picked one up yesterday and hope to get to the range with it today. I believe you are right on point with the comments that it fills a niche for people that appreciate the fact that it takes less effort to rack slide and load magazine.Too often I hear comments where people downplay these points as they feel that there is no market for these features as they can easily operate their "real" larger caliber handgun. While I can easily manipulate my other handguns now, there will likely come a time when I cannot. Since I am already handloading for 380, I see it as a great range gun to economically practice my trigger discipline. That does not mean that I will not shoot my 9mm or 45ACP, just that I have options.
@logitechrevue6 жыл бұрын
I would like to add that I made it to the range and successfully fired several different handloads. I did have issue with one particular starting load that I would fire chambered round and the next live round would be stovepipe straight up as in this video. It did this EVERY time, so I am quite sure due to weak load in my case. Same bullet and powder with slightly larger charge cycled fine.

My husband bought this one for me. I have the 9mm also. I really like this one. It is as it says, easy to use. The slide is much easier to manipulate for my arthritic hands. I also had the same problem crop up while qualifying for my CCDW. The instructor said to change mags after the second event. No problems after that. Highly recommend this one for the ease of use.

I've taken my wife to the gun shop multiple times to let her fire semi-auto pistols. The M&P Shield 380 EZ ended up being the best pistol for her and that's what I ended up buying. She shot Walther, Sig, Ruger and this gun just fit and operated best for her. Easy to load, easy to rack the slide, easy pull on the trigger, and simple operation for a semi-auto. I'm a 9mm guy so now I have to buy a whole other ammo type, but she can control the 380 and stays on target. I'm sure some will call me names, but I shot it with her along with a Sig that we were looking at and I like the S&W better. Of course that was just shooting, I'm not getting into the reliability arena.

Definitely a need for a lot of women. My wife isn't able to pull the slide back on any of my guns. She carries a 38 and I thought this would be a great option for her but has too many drawbacks. Not just the last round stove piping but the lack of a magazine safety and the grip safety. Why make an "EZ" model then put a grip safety on it? If Hickok has issues with it, my wife sure would.

I have an EZ and the Shield. The EZ is a 'very sweet' shooting pistol. Only problem for me with a swollen joint arthritic trigger finger is the trigger guard on the EZ is MUCH 'tighter' in clearance than the more 'open geometry' trigger guard on the M&P Shield. Ive found that if you hold the EZ just a wee bit tighter in your hands, you won't have the last round in the magazine hanging up.

That's a last round inertial feed. Mag spring is a bit too weak and the recoil spring is also weak, the recoil forces that are transmitted to the gun and the shooter are sufficient enough that, under recoil, the last round in the magazine is actually being allowed to "stand still" in space while the weapon recoils away from it. Effectively, this allows the round to "self feed" out of the magazine and, in this instance, it is flying out of the ejection port. Smith jut needs to bump up the tension on those springs a bit more.

I am interested in one of these and rented one at the range and shot their reloaded ball ammo and had no problems with loading, firing, or ejecting and it is just a nice mild firing experience. Loading the mags is literally as easy as my S&W 622 with the low spring tension and slide nob. I found it to be a good accurate shooter and am about to order one. Mind you this was a first gen range gun that has been shot a ton and it was still in great shape, and it wasn't one that had been sent back to S&W for the safety fix, but it never moved while I had it. For me the grip safety was a non-issue and didn't even notice it as it is very light and comfortable depresses with a normal grip. A 380 may not be for everyone, but I wouldn't want to be in front of one.

Wife has trouble racking a 9mm. While in the gun store I asked if they had one of the new EZ's and the clerk put it on the counter. Wife picked it up and I asked her how it felt in her hand. She said "really good" I said "try to rack it" and she had no problem racking it and locking the slide back. "I really like this" 380 is a shorter case than a 9 mm and ordinarily a little lighter weight bullet. With the right ammo the 380 makes a formidable defensive round.

4:51 There's no way my daughter has the hand strength for a double action only revolver, I tried. I'm also looking at the EZ but in 9mm as I have lost a lot of hand strength. I can rack the slides on my other automatics, but hand loading the mags are nearly impossible for me. So the easy loading mags on the EZ is my biggest reason to shop for this gun. On a side note, a few years back, my wife handled a few automatics and absolutely could rack any of them. We wound up buying her a S&W AirWeight 642 5 shot 38 Special Revolver with factory S&W Crimson Trace grips - there's no comparison between the factory grips and the crimson trace replacement grips or regular 642 grips - they are a bit larger and fit your hand better. Wow - what a great little gun. Safe for her, the only way it will go off is pulling the trigger - no safeties, no slide, no thinking - just pull the trigger. It is our car gun - I have complete confidence in it. You might check it out bet she'll love it.

@@robbieanderson4674 s&w has you covered, the M&P ez 2.0 is in 9mm. For my girlfriend we're probably going with the Chiapa Rihno.
