M.P. George Achen Singing Syriac Hymn "Basali" - Idtho Zmar Shubho

Sung by the "Malphono Rabo d'Musicoro." A hymn about the Church. If anyone can offer an English translation, that would be appreciated.

Please pray that all of the Malankara Orthodox Churches unite: Jacobite, Indian Orthodox and Malabar Indpendent Syrian Church (Thozhiyoor). Once we achieve full unity....then it will be an example and eventually all Christians can become of one faith. Right now to maintain our Syriac traditions, lets make efforts for reconciliation, that is a HUGE step.

This happens in many churches, in order to become a kassesso, rabban or episcopo....you've got to have that calling from God to serve, not anyone or everyone can be come a priest. You see, we all have a different function to serve our Lord Jesus, but priesthood is a strong direct calling.

@indianbanker Fr. M P George is the disciple of N K Koruth Malpan, renowned Syriac Scholar and Old Seminary teacher, who passed away in 2001. Koruth Malpan joined the Orthodox Church after the unity of 1958. He learned the Beth Gazo from Yakub III while the latter lived at Manjinikkara (then Ramban Abdul Ahad). So everything is connected!

Your right some priests are corrupt in the way you mentioned , but you shouldn't generalize because there are still many priests with contrite hearts who live to serve Christ. This priest is a teacher of the Orthodox liturgy which in turn teaches the theology through the music. He has served the people of the Church for many years and is sincere.

Achen was blessed by god with a beautiful voice and he is returning the favor by using his voice to praise God. There is no hypocrisy here, just you being judgemental...

yes you are right in the sense that priest must give up earthly desires, and become attached to the monastic way of life and i do agree some orthodox priest may find being a priest a " good career option", but not all of them........most orthodox priest have children so they need money to take care of their loved ones. And i don't know where you got your information on how orthodox priest "hovers around rich people"
