Just purchased this handgun as my first, mom of 4 who would rather be safe than sorry. I chose it for the extra safety features as I'm a new gun holder. After holding a few other handguns and brands I found this one to be the most lightweight without my wrist getting tired or finger hurting pulling the trigger. Perfect for my small hands and fist in my purse and on my person. Great price point, I think this is the right choice for me. Tfs

There was so much smack talked about this pistol online. If you have an issue with this pistols design it's probably not marketed towards you. Move along. I handled one. It's a great pistol for its target audience. The salesman was also wowed by it as he removed the lock and checked it for clear before handing it to me. It was put in the case before his shift. Seeing beginners fumble with Bodyguard sized 380 pistols in classes that someone probably told them was a great starter pistol would make you realize this is perfect for them, and the seasoned citizen that may be struggling with hand strength. It's a perfect weight, and size for these people to manipulate safely. the added design features make it a home run for them. Best video demonstration of this pistol yet.

I finally bought one. This gun is everything I thought it would be. I have a lot of other pistols but since I have developed pretty bad arthritus in both hands it is hard to rack and shoot my other ones. I am so glad I found the 380 EZ. It is so easy to load, rack and shoot. Very little recoil. This is now my carry weapon.

I chose this handgun for my wife as she doesn't have a lot of hand strength due to carpel tunnel and onset of RA, even though as of this post she hasn't fired it yet. She is easily able to manipulate the firearm.
@annebodee4 жыл бұрын
My first handgun (I'm 58 and petite) it was recommended by my son who has a Shield (9mm I think) and he loves it. He knows that even though I try to get to the gym my strength regarding racking a gun is not going to cut it with most. I can rack this, and I've learned to take it apart and clean it (watched several KZbin videos for that). I'm having an issue with loading the magazine (those little pins hurt) but even with an easy loader it's just not working. I have my first training tomorrow so I expect my trainer will be able to teach me a lot with this gun. Overall I feel I made the right choice and I'm excited to join the ranks of females who are prepared to protect themselves and their loved ones if necessary.

I wanted to thank you for this video. My wife has rheumatoid arthritis and has struggled to find a handgun for self defense that would work for her due to significant loss of hand strength. She has tried and owned several 380 handguns but none were completely satisfactory, until now. She purchased the 380 EZ today and it looks like it will work for her. We will soon test fire it but the familiarization exercies she has worked on so far indicate that she can fully manipulate the pistol. Thank you again. Your video gave her the information she needed to move forward with the purchase

THANK YOU for making this video and not saying anything about this gun being "for women", or for people with weak hands, or talking about it only in the context of self-defense. This is a great gun for someone whose doesn't have big hands - and that can be a man or a woman - who finds it difficult to reach all the controls on larger guns. It's also a great gun for nearly any novice for a number of reasons: low recoil, easy slide manipulation, easy to load, easy takedown, single-action (therefore less complex), manual safety. All of those things work together to make for a positive shooting experience that encourages proper shooting discipline. What kind of shooter would probably *not* like this gun? 1) Experienced people who have no need for a .380 of this size and configuration and don't find shooting one fun, and...that's pretty much it.

Great design features, and excellent marketing research and vision. People with strength disabilities like my wife will be thrilled, and the rest of us will enjoy shooting it too. The perfect blend of size, manageable controls (including trigger), and caliber. Most .380’s are too small to shoot comfortably for people with strength disabilities. I like that the grip safety is HUGE. If you have to have one mechanically for drop safety purposes, at least theres no chance our going to miss this one and not engage it!

I purchased one this week and all I can say is awesome. Thus is the first pistol my wife had ever gotten excited about. She has been carrying a revolver for years and recently a 9mm shield. I handed this to her and said rack it and the look on her face was priceless. It is a little slimmer in the grip and it fits her hand perfectly. Recoil is very minimal. This has shot lots of different ammo very well. We had one ftf stove pipe with Hornady XTP very early on but none since with about 300 rounds so far. If reliability holds up Smith should sell tons of these. I am considering getting me one also as it is fun to shoot.

My wife has a S&W M&P 9c and cant rack it. One day at a gun store, the clerk put a EZ on the counter and when my wife picked it up she said "Feels really good" I told her to rack it and when she did she said "I really like this" so it followed us home. I'm a firearms instructor and I teach that the fit and feel in the hand is the primary consideration in choosing a pistol. The 380, with today's modern bullets makes for a formidable self defense pistol.

Wife picked it up. I asked her how it felt and she said "fine really comfortable" I told her to rack it and she grabbed the slide over hand style and racked it. "I really like this" she said so it followed us home. It's her CCW pistol but I carry it once in a while when out on my own errands because of the weight being so light.

Julie: I have never seen any of your videos before this and I would just like to say that you provided me with the best video of this particular handgun that I have seen on You Tube! I own a S&W M&P 22 Compact that I am taking to our local indoor pistol range/gun store tomorrow and hope to have the opportunity to fire this new pistol at that time. This looks like a very good candidate to replace the Bersa Thunder 380s that I purchased for my wife and adult daughters several years ago. The Bersa is a decent handgun but is very picky on the type of ammo it will fire and is very difficult to rack (at least for my wife and daughters). Thank you for posting the video.

I am an instructor in Michigan. I’ve been looking for a firearm recommendation for new shooters - especially women - who find it difficult to manipulate the slide on a semi-auto, and don’t like snappy subcompacts. Up until now my go-to choices have been the M&P .22 (limited stopping power) or the Sig P238/P938 (great guns, but expensive!). A few weeks ago, one my students asked where she could find something with a hotter round that was as easy to rack and load as her M&P .22 Compact. Julie, this new offering from Smith & Wesson is music to my ears! It really seems like the solution for an under-served group of shooters. The mags even have the thumb saver pull-down mechanism like the M&P .22. Can’t wait to get my hands on one. They haven’t landed here yet, but I’m sure they will soon. Thanks for this great review/demo. I’m going to link to it from my website. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for posting this Julie! Smith & Wesson has done a good job with market research. I think they have identified a very large niche of people that have quote unquote "weak hands" and sensitivity to recoil and appreciate extra safety features like the tactile loaded chamber indicator. This will fit nicely in our collection between our M&P 22 Compact and our M&P Pro Core 9mm.

Its dimensions are also really good for people who have normal hand strength but just don't have big meathooks and want a gun where they can easily reach all the controls with their shooting hand. It's a really nice gun for anyone in that category and it's also a great gun for novices, or for anyone who wants one gun that can fulfill the dual role of "fun at the range" and "good for self-defense".

Have a number of 9mm. A SW 9, a few Glock, a Ruger. I love my Taurus G3 9mm which usually that is my go to for dependability. Taurus is compatible with Glock in my humble opinion. However I bought this SW 380 EZ during the shortages when covid first came about. (Literally no pistols or long guns left in gun stores). I have bought because of ammo shortages. This little SW 380 is the cats meow. Its perfect for the woman and her safety...and its enough for a man too. I love the hammer fire. You guys out there, be like 'oh i need some big gun, that be too little kitty' . But you guys may really like this hammer fire. Its so light, perfect waistline CCW and a 380 is same diameter as a 9mm. Less recoil more accuracy.

Arthritis is making it progressively more difficult to work the slides on my 1911's and striker fired pistols. I like the somewhat larger size of this pistol too as compared to the P238, Bersa or LCP. I've had Sigs for many years as well as PPK. They can be a bit snappy sometimes. Yes it would and will be a nice firearm for people first getting into shooting and some people with strength or medical issues. But I found it to be an enjoyable shooter at the range , love the low recoil, easy load mags, and how it feels in your hand. After owning and shooting the Ruger LCP .380 I found that it’s has no grip for a human hand and it has the worst wicked recoil, and I’m sure this isn’t just a issues with the LCP all little pocket pistols seem to shoot the same. I may sell my M&P Shield 9 and buy the Shield EZ 9. No reason to go to the range and get beat up and have absolutely no fun shooting guns with ridicules recoil.

Something none says in their review of this gun, is that it is basically impossible to insert a fully loaded magazine into the gun if the slide is forward. This is a huge issue for tactical reloads and for when you eventually interfere with the slide stop lever because of recoil and the slide doesn't hold back on the last round. Another issue is that if you even lightly touch the slide stop lever while firing, it will cause the last round to get caught between the slide and barrel or sometimes the last LIVE round will be ejected from the gun entirely.

Great video. This wouldn't be a pistol I'm interested in, but I'm sure there is a market for it. Now if they would just add a reversible mag release to the 9mm shield I would be interested.

Nice presentation, JG. Appears to be a very well built handgun that should appeal to various types of shooters. 👍👍

Great review! 👍 I sure wish Smith and Wesson would listen to consumers and put that trigger shoe on all of their pistols... I don't know anyone who cares for the articulated hinged trigger shoe.

Could be a nice nightstand pistol for my mother. Her grip strength isn't what it used to be anymore. Going to have to look into this one. BTW... The grip safety on a 1911 doesn't require you to hold your mouth right to activate. Grab it and it's off. Just saying. A lot of good info here. Thank you for the great review.

Thanks for the feedback. Not sure what you mean about the 1911, but I have had times when I had a nice high grip, especially in prone where I failed to deactivate it. Hand size and grip do make a difference.

Great video, definitely answers the question on where this fits in the line- up. Cool niche piece, but I'm skipping the 380 in favor of the 2.0 Compact, my future ccw.

Nice video Julie! 👍😊 The windage of the rear sight is cool (struggled to change mine in my "old" M&P9) and the fact the sear lever isn't there is a great thing (that is really a pain in the arm). I really would consider this one over a shield 2.0.

It looks like it's based on their M&P 22 compact. I think this gun would be perfect for senior citizens or smaller stature people with weaker hands, sometimes these are the people who need a defensive firearm the most. I'm a self admitted Glock fanboy but I love the Smith and Wesson M&P series. I currently own several M&P handguns and in my collection I also have an M&P 22 compact which is currently one of my favorite .22 pistols, I think Smith and Wesson has a real winner here with this M&P EZ though ☺👍

I'd like to see this pistol in a double stack with night sights.
@he1lr1ser6 жыл бұрын
People bashing this gun obviously don't see that it's a mechanical evolution of the single action M&P22 and not the Shield9, and is aimed at people who don't have the strength due to stature/age/disability (who usually choose .22lr over 380/9) to run a Shield9. Browning did the same thing with their black label 1911-380. I think it definitely has it's place. I'd love to see a Shield9 with a 4in barrel and 8rd grip length.

Julie, what do they feel like to shoot, in terms of perceived recoil? I have a difficulty with recoil being transmitted up my arm into my neck from a severe injury, such that I have to shoot something like a Kel-Tec PMR-30 to keep it manageable. Between a .22WMR and a 9mm from a Glock 27, where do you think this weapon falls, both with the softer practice ammo and with the defensive loads? If it is low enough, I may be able to use this weapon, which would probably be a lot more reliable than the PMR-30, both for practice AND for self-defense. I don't like being relegated to a round that might be an unreliable one for defense just to be able to shoot at all. I CAN shoot a 9mm, a .38spl, or even a .45, but the number of times I can fire and the amount of pain I experience from transmitted shock into the neck is a factor. In extremis I can fire a .45, but the recoil and the pain it causes may be such that it incapacitates me, so I have to be careful how much recoil I accept depending on how thoroughly I resolve a given threat situation. I don't want to fire a magazine of .45, then be incapable of further defensive actions that I might need to take and not be able to do. Hence my unfortunate need to rely on an extremely low-recoil round that might not be sufficient for defense. I realize that .22WMR is notoriously difficult to use in a semi-auto, but my only .22WMR revolver is harder to shoot than my .45, with a trigger pull of around 12 lbs, and a weapon so badly made that manipulating the cylinder too vigorously has been known to bend the pivot lug accidentally. So I prefer to use the Kel-Tec for .22WMR, even if I do have some feed issues that I still haven't sufficiently addressed. (There's an injection mould spume right smack dab in the middle of the ramp face that tends to catch the nose of a round when attempting to feed. I haven't gotten around to trying to polish it away.) What are your thoughts?

For what it's worth I am shooting Federal Premium HST carry loads, with gloves in 19 degree weather. The recoil is so minimal and even less with target loads. It won't feel as soft as .22 caliber, but it doesn't snap the wrists at all. I love shooting it.

If you still wish to shoot 9mm with less perceived recoil in any gun, I recommend Winchester Defend 147grain HP's or Inceptor 65grain ARX's

They should offer a 380 in a full size double stack that is EZ. This is definitely fills a gap in the market for people who struggle to cycle the slide on other pistols.

Julie, great vid. Tell S&W the ladies in my life would like to see a 9mm the size of this one. Sort of a Shield with longer nose and a grip length like the 8-shot mag without a spacer.

It's definitely worth checking out. I personally don't like the ultra-compact 9's and .380's, where my pinky falls off the bottom of the grip. I don't have that problem at all with this gun; its size is perfect for me. Something you might want to consider, though: it's single-action only, so if you get the version without the manual safety and you want to carry with a round in the chamber, you'll be carrying it in a ready-to-fire state and it has a *very* light trigger pull. That may or may not be a concern for you. Of course, if you get the version with the safety then you can carry it ready-to-fire, safety on, just like a 1911. Also note that they changed the design of the safety in the 2.0 version so that it's quite a bit stiffer and harder to disengage accidentally. Hope this helps!

@@hux2000 Thanks I carried a 1911 in the Marines 50+ years ago and went through some tweaks with it but I hate to admit it but just getting to old to carry that much iron around so the 380 sounds good to me

Two follow up notes: 1. One doesn't need the thumb safety. This pistol can not fire usless gripped securely. 2. The chamber loaded indicator is not beveled so one can not close the slide with a round in the chamber. A good feature for beginners.
@juliegolob6 жыл бұрын
It comes without the thumb safety as an option.
