Excellent! I really enjoyed this. It isn't a parody - more of an homage. My love of M.R. James started at the age of twelve. I had borrowed 'Ghost Stories of an Antiquary' from the school library. On arriving home to an empty house on a wintry afternoon, I started reading 'Oh whistle and I'll come to you my lad' and was immediately gripped by it. On eventually looking up, I saw that the light was fading fast - and I was quite alone. I was considerably cheered by the arrival of my parents shortly after! I have loved James' stories ever since. He is indeed the Master of the uncanny.

I started reading his stories around the same age. My parents used to visit my uncle on Sunday afternoons to play cards. An avid reader, I entertained myself looking through my uncle’s books. He loved ghost stories, and so that was were I first met M R James.

Excellent 10/10 not so much as a parody more of a homage...

I'm tired of people assuming M.R. James was gay when there is no evidence to suggest it. During this era, a professor could not be a don at Cambridge and be married. None if them were. They were devoted to their profession just as a famous scientist or artist would be who devoted all if their time to their careers. There were many female writers such as tge Brontes, Jane Austen, Alcott who remained unmarried and weren't lesbians. People don't realize that casual sex was not as common in an era where people were under social scrutiny, and remaining unmarried usually resulted in celibate due to fear of syphilis.

I think were too obsessed about all these things related to someone's sex life or preference. I actually think people fear celibacy than they do different sexual orientations.

This was a great story and there really should have been a continuation because of the fright that the girls still had as they ran off the beach. With both of them sleeping in the same room the Ghost of Mr James should have started his first visit of terrorizing them because now all four know that there is a presence approaching them. There really should have been part 2 [ and thank you please continue with the horror stories and I'll be here listening ]
