Is Tata Motors planning to bring back the Nano in an electric avatar?. Now, a recent report claims that Tata Motors is reviving the Nano project back from the dead, and this it will be launched only in the form of an electric car.
We all now that, tata motors is currently the Number 1 player in the Indian EV segment with over 80% market share. Currently, they offer Nexon EV, Tigor EV and Tiago EV, and more to come in near future. Even though this isn't officially confirmed yet, there is a strong and solid reason why we nano back as EV. That's the Micro EV segment which is going crazy globally. This particular 2 door Wuling Mini EV is china's top selling electric car with over 15000 unit sold every month. Recently, PMV electric car launched with 200 km of range, costing 4.79 lakh. MG is set to bring its Air EV soon to India as well. This is where a nano EV should fit perfect, a compact four door electric car with atleast 200+ kilometer range will be stellar option for city commute.
Recently a Tata nano EV was delivered to Ratan Tata which went crazy online with multiple speculations of launching. Even Nano EV test mules were spotted multiple times in the past, which was a joint venture between Coimbatore based Jayem automotive. They managed to pack in 17 kWh battery inside Nano, with an ARAI certified range of 203 km, and with a top speed of 85 km/h. But this project never saw the light of day.
Unlike these previous attempts, where Tata Motors tried to retrofit existing Nano, this time things could be different. It is likely to be an all new car, with a modern day design - built as a Born Electric Vehicle.
Tata Motors have not officially announced the Nano EV. If it is being considered, it might be one among the 10 new EVs that Tata is planning to launch in the next five years. Earlier this year, they showcased Curvv and Avinya EV concepts.
