Recently I bought new car which is in SUV segment (4.3 meter) I had to afford 63% tax on Ex-Showroom price of 10 lakhs. Total I paid 16.5 L . This is really crime in India by govt of India and state government. No other country in world has this much tax to their citizens. Tax break up GST 28% Cess 18% TCS 1% RTO registration 15%

New car emi 9% interest, used car starts at 15% ... The dealer keeps 20% margin , cars 24 keeps 30% margin.. So a new car 10 lac , dealer buys it at 5 lac after 5 years .some repairs upto 20-30k is done , dealer margin added 7 lac rs quoted .u negotiate for 6.5-6.4 ... The car which has ran 50-60k ,major service will come around 40-50k .. So u pay 7 lac for a 5 year old car which was bought for 10 lac , owner sold it for 5 lac.. In between the local dealer will remove all the good quality original injectors ,battery , tyres , gear parts to repair the cars in their garage or simply hold it in their scrap yard to sell it to some other customer.. This happens even in showroom, no matter what the company pays them as salary, 99% Indians do not hv ethics... especially in auto industry.. So they do all sort of golmaal to get the money out of customer pocket.. U r not safe even in company service centres also.. Because it's costing huge amount of money to maintain a showroom.. All of them hv tgt for spare parts sales , insurance, unnecessary add ons , etc.. Local used car dealer 90% cheating, corporate used car sales man will cheat u 70% of the time . New car govt will cheat u..50% .. That's y this industry doesn't hv good reputation...

Hello @ET tamil, He is speaking the truth. But as of today's market, the second hand car price merely same as the new car. Especially on the brands with lesser safety namely Maruti Suzuki. This is predominantly decided by the pre-owned car sellers. For example you can go and check any dealer MS swift 2018 model costs more than 6L. The new car costs 8L. The car has also covered more than 50k kms. The depreciation calculation is varying from brand to brand.

You should trial drive the car at least for 30 kilometers to know about the conditions of engine condition, gear box, tyres, suspension, AC condition, under chassis, any damage due to accident. Only after long drive, you can know about the gear box braking c condition. Pl hire a experienced mechanic or certified inspection agencies. Some deers won't allow for long drive. I that case, do not buy the used cars. They will paint the cars to look shining and cheat you. So, be very very careful while buying a used car.
