I think the 'flashing U' was because the Scan-Skip had been activated by accident.

Yes it was, couldn't suss the handbook, so factory reset it, all good now

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with a more local contact / audio report. When you engage the NRC your receive will sound really nice and smooth.

Great contact and what a signal you were throwing! Straight out of the box (4 watts)? I do love when FM opens up as the signals can be very strong.
