Do you find it hard to fit an iPad into your life or business?

I got an asus laptop from end of 2012. Mostly I keep up my account book on it. Really no reason to buy a laptop after it dies. I have thought of replacing it with an Ipad and no longer have a computer. At 799€ this is not cheap but still not quite macbook air money.

My son has started using it as a laptop replacement for school. The laptop stays at home (later dorm) for heavier work and gaming while the ipad is far more portable and has a longer battery life. With text books now being mainly online and pdf, the ipad with pencil lets him do highlighting and inline note taking far easier than on the larger laptop. He can take notes by hand and rearrange them if the professor starts jumping around.

The iPad works amazingly the box came a little dirty, kzbin.infoUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA no plastic wrap, but the box was sealed and had everything else in the box along with the wrapping, the iPad itself is gorgeous, I got the yellow 64g game storage is good for me along with Socials and school stuff. No scratches or marks came with the charger and box fast speed, and if you are buying a pen get the 1st gen don’t make the mistake I did !!

I use my iPad Air 4 along side my Macbook Air M1, it is for my content consumption & a second screen. It’s brilliant for research when using it with Craft Docs, the drag and drop features are excellent. I’ve been using Craft Docs for all my note taking/second brain uses for about a year after moving over from Apple notes 👍

it is 2023, and I have swapped my Gen 2 iPad Pro for this one (M1 iPad Air) I can tell you that, I am not missing the Pro. It was just an emotional thing for it having 2 cameras, which I never used. Front facing camera on the Air is amazing, with Centre Stage on it, it can zoom out quite a bit and we've taken a few family selfiies with it 120Hz is not a deal breaker

I used my ipad pro 2018 as my main laptop device, for 3 years, alongside with a mac mini sitting on my desk, once or twice a month.... I could imagine myself using the ipad air as a main device too. I hear/read a lot that the ipad air 4 &5 are a soft spot for IOS music production devices.- Thanks for the vid, Mark!👍

I've had three iPads through the years, my first one being the 2017 10.5" iPad Pro (which also my gateway device into the Apple ecosystem), then I switched to an iPad Mini 6 and though I loved it and the size was great for 80% of what I do with my iPad, that other 20% was rather cumbersome and not a great experience. I recently got an Air 5 on sale and I've been loving it! The size is just great and though nothing I do pushes the M1, I enjoy it's overall performance 👨‍💻

I use my iPad Air 5 to store all of my sheet music - it’s becoming more and more common for musicians to store their sheet music on iPads rather than carrying around dozens of books or hundreds of loose pages. Especially after covid I felt like iPads exploded in the music industry and so many musicians across all genres use them, they’ve been a huge game changer.

I use the iPad Pro with keyboard & trackpad (Logitech Combo Touch) as my main laptop/desktop computer, and the iPad Mini 6 as my tablet for things best done on a tablet. I find I can run my whole life off of those (only really use my iPhone for “phone” and utiliy tasks, and as a camera). The only reason I can think of for getting a Mac would be to have a strictly at home device that stays on the desk…

Auyup Mark, Just wanted to say I use Day One journal myself, Have done since 2016, as somebody with BPD, I like to do diary entries on a daily basis. I’ve still got to replace my iPad mini (second generation). Definitively looking at the iPad Pro, if for no other reason other than the 12.9 inch screen size as I just want it as a media consumption device for my kitchen and to manage my smart home stuff. I just have a bit of her thing, there’s big screens on portable devices, ultimately it’s more of a personal preference. Definitely still waiting with bated breath for FCP to get an iPad version (still crossing fingers).

Very interesting, and also food for thought. I use my 2020 12.9" iPad pro as a laptop replacement for when I'm not at my desktop, but having seen all your videos on it I'm strongly considering getting an iPad mini as an on-the-go media & note taking device, something for which the iPad pro is far too large and for which an iPhone is too small. I really, really wish Apple made a 'pro' version of the iPad mini - having a mini-LED screen in that compact form factor would be brilliant.

Now that the new iPad is out, the air is probably more worth it. It's less expensive than the pro and way, way more feature rich than the 10th gen iPad. If you can find a good deal on the iPad Air, then it really is the one to get. Is the iPad mini worth it if you already have a max version of the iPhone?

That’s fine, but I love my Air 5 as a tablet, and nothing more. For social media, Music, KZbin and streaming movies and series. Casual entertainment use. I wouldn’t even think of connecting a keyboard or a mouse to it. I have a least 3 stationary pc’s, and a stack of laptops with all kinds of OS’s. Even a dedicated Linux PC with my own custom linux-builds. Why would I want to do any kind of productivity on an 10.9” tablet?

And I feel like I’d be opposite. Why do I need a computer, if I have an iPad that can handle full stage manager capabilities on an extended display, and I don’t need all the video or photo editing power that a computer would give me? I’m going to do amateur, rookie editing of video or photos. But I’ll do media watching and maybe listening. I’ll do writing and gaming, browsing the web, video calls, maybe reading a book. I feel like the iPad Air 5 (especially with current Black Friday pricing) will give me near Pro capability, at a less expensive price.

Only purpose I got an iPad Air 4 for was to draw on it using Procreate and write a couple of notes. Now I use it as a white noise machine for my son to sleep at night. I think other than that, I wouldn’t really need it and just be fine with my MacBook Pro and IPhone.

Apple has set up their devices to make sure that you have to have a MacBook for work and an IPad to play with. They have also scaled their pricing so the next best thing in any category is only $150-250 more knowing that they have made the cheapest entry level items at an almost laughable level of storage and ram and everyone wants that next best option.

I honestly feel you're overthinking this. Have a look at Steve Jobs' iPad Introduction presentation, especially the bit between 6'30" and 8'30". He's clearly pointing the iPad towards content consumption, and (IMHO, of course), that's still its best role today. If you need to use a laptop, then use a laptop! Of course, that opens up the question of "do we need a 12" MacBook Air?".... (And is that Southampton you're walking around? Nice to see you outdoors, wherever it is.)

Steve's presentation was a long time ago; the iPad they're pitching us now is a very different beast, hence the raised expectations. And I really don't think we need another MacBook line ;) It was indeed Southampton!

After my iPad Pro 4 and Apple 8S experiences, I will never buy another Apple product again. I spend most of my time having to set and reset passwords, 6 digit numbers, finger prints and answering fool questions to use it, especially after unannounced OS updates. And their driving map service is the most dysfunctional chaotic imaginable. Who are these software programmers anyhow? Apple, fix your security system. Fix your heaphone functions. Don't make me have to stand on my head to open up the screen because you can't incorporate reasonable security features into your overpriced junk.Abd by the way did the former MacBook Pro Catalina OS ever get straightened out and debugged so mydaughter could migrate pictures from my her old iMac desktop to her MacBook Pro? Its been over 5 years now. Has Apple figured out how to fix its OS so that you can migrate pictures?
