I had a 10th gen iPad kzbin.infoUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA . Felt it getting pretty slow at times even after doing a reset. So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.

Good review! I’m so hyped to receive mine! I REALLY hope this spec bump means more layers in Procreate! Maybe 140 layers?? Also More animation tools? I’m torn on the screen protector. Great review Brad! You got me curious about the Paperlike-screen protector, I’m afraid a matte screen protector would compromise the screen quality of the new iPad Pro.. Do you have the same sharpness and colors with the Paperlike protection? Does it take away all the screen glare? I just bought the 2020 12.9 last October. It is really - really great. My only problem is I run out of layers on procreate. @@lilih1081 that is a hard but easy question. The 11 inch is so so much lighter and easier to carry around. But once you draw on the 12.9. It's another level. And after awhile it's just as easy to carry around. I carry my 12.9 to every room in a 2 story house and everywhere I go! Honestly having a 11 inch 2018 and a new 12.9 would be ideal if not for Covid. That 11 would give you a back up device and the light weight. And obviously the 12.9 is just better in every way for any kind of drawing!

I could only afford the 128gb version, and I’m hoping it’ll be enough storage. I don’t do video work, just some Lightroom photo editing, some light procreate drawing, document and email writing, playing games and content consumption/ streaming. My previous iPad was the 256gb air, and it had a ton of apps, bunch of games, and a LOT of photos and I only used like 60 gigs or so, so fingers crossed I’ll be fine at 128. They need to offer the air in 128. Glad it was available for the pro. Thanks again for the great videos.

@PSYCHOV3N0M
@PSYCHOV3N0M 3 жыл бұрын
I believe the amount of layers you can use depend on the RAM capacity of the iPad you're using. Both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch 2021 models have the same storage capacity/RAM capacity as each other. The 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB models all have 8GB of RAM. The 1TB and 2TB models all have 16GB of RAM. You should check the App Store for the latest update notes from the developer of the app that you use to see if they specify any specific optimizations for the new 2021 models. For any artist or video editor, I say go with any 1TB or 2TB model for the 16GB of RAM alone. It can definitely help to "future-proof" your purchase. Keep in mind that the Mini LED LCD panel is only available on the 12.9-inch 2021 iPad Pro.

That's a HUGE disincentive to get Apple products, but especially the iPad. Apple FORCES you to use their software for drawing even though you already paid for all the other products from Apple. No thanks. That's not professional or ethical of Apple to do that. If they're claiming this product is tailored to artists, then by default people should be able to use whatever software they want.

Hey great review as always ! I’m planning on getting the 11 inch variant. Will the XDR display have any visual difference on Procreate or any other drawing apps ? I currently have the 10.5 from 2017 and I mostly use it for Procreate. But since last year or so I’ve found that it stutters whenever I resize the canvas. And creates random lines whenever I use it while charging. Hence I’m thinking of getting the M1 version this year. Hopefully it won’t have all these issues in Procreate. Still pretty nervous about splurging so much money on one device. Since it’s about $980 here in India for the base version of the 11 inch variant. But I’ll also use for many years. That’s why I need it to be great.

Great review, as always, Brad. At first, I was going to take your advice and stay with my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro. Then I visited my local Apple Store to compare the 2018 with the 2021 model. There is a BIG difference in the displays. The brightness on the 2021 is outstanding. The whites are whiter and the blacks are darker (sounds like a laundry detergent commercial) and I really don't notice much of a drop-off at the edges. It is very faint. Perhaps it's a matter of only some units having that as a problem. Overall, I felt it was worth the cost for an upgrade, especially as Apple is offering me $535 for a trade-in on the 2018 model. Checking on eBay, after eBay & Paypal fees, I wouldn't net much more than that anyway. Certainly worth the $700 for the upgrade.

Thanks, I have a question if you can reply: should I go for the 11” instead of the 12.9” concerning the shadowy effect this XDR screen has? Is it a deal breaker? Please answer me

Great video as always. Have you thought about reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Book 360 Laptop? I always prefer to see artist's reviews when it comes to tech that allows you to draw on it given that other tech reviwers don't focus on that aspect.

Upgrading from the iPad Air 2. So excited, pushing procreate to it's limits is so common on the Air 2.

3:20 Well it's not so much MacOS emulator software, cause for a reason macbook which has same processor use the roseta emulator in itself, as a part of that chipset of M1, so the software than isn't emulator but rare.

Would you advise the paperlike (or other matte screen protector) for someone who does photo editing on the iPad? Also is it true the nibs of the apple pencil wear down faster when using a matte screen protector? I wanted to use one to have a better feel when note taking and drawing, but I don't want to have the colors of my screen changed and screw up my photos because of it. Thanks for the help.

I just got an m1 macbook pro at the beginning of the year, planning to use my 2017 ipad pro alongside it as a tablet, and lo and behold, my ipad pro starts crapping out on me. It still works storage-wise and the processing is still good, but the screen is obscuring the colors and making my drawing experience a lot more difficult! I looked up screen replacements and they are up to $600. I’m considering just going all the way and setting aside money for this beast. Thank you for this review! It is very helpful!

At the beginning of the year (end of January) I invested in an iPad Pro 2021 (12‘9 inch, 512gb) with the Apple Pencil and I bought procreate. That was the first ever apple device I ever got and I never understood the hype about the ipad, Apple Pencil and procreate but now I do! It is the best drawing experience I ever had, the Apple Pencil is just so amazing and I‘m still so in love with this baby. I never want to go back. Its definitely worth it.

I have been using pc for my illustration, but recently I've been wanting an Ipad because it looks really comfortable to use. Would it be a good idea to upgrade the pc specs (4k display and a new GPU) or buy the Ipad as an addition? I do concept art 2d illustrations.

I sold my iPad pro 10.5 from 2017 with the original Apple pencil last month. When I tell you I'm dying to get my hands on this new one.. I'm not lying. Would you recommend paperlike on this new screen if someone (me) also edits photos on it or would a matte screen protector not be ideal then?

It's interesting that there's a gap in the glass. Apple says it's fully laminated. I wonder if it's because of it being XDR, and if that's the case, does the 11-inch version possibly have a leg up in this department?

Does the matte screen protector effect the XDR display ? Does it diminish the video quality which doesnot happen on glass protectors?

Ha! I see that you have the same issue I had: when adding subtitles (like at 2:13), Premiere (or some other video rendering software) does a full render of the frame, that's causing different lighting/coloring conditions. I solved that by switching from hardware to software rendering, but that's just a bypass, not a real solution.

Hi Brad, I’m an amateur painter and illustrator who’s been itching to get into digital art (and been saving up a while for it!) and would love your advice on whether you think this is the best iPad to start with? I’m planning to begin with ProCreate and Affinity Designer, but also keen to learn animation, more detailed graphic design on Photoshop/Illustrator, as well as basic video editing. Would you recommend making the more expensive investment in the 2021 iPad Pro so that I have greater flexibility for other software further down the line, or do you feel the 2020 iPad does the job well enough?

Hello… one quick question… with the iPad with 16GB of Ram… working on PROCREATE using 300 DPI… what would be the largest canvas size you can have and how many layered will give you? If is possible to give the dimension in INCHES would be great! Thank you for your videos!
