Great looking truck. I just purchased a 1986 M1009, it spent its whole life in Arizona and only has 36K miles on it. Love your console, I'm gonna try an do the same. Looks like you can lock it for storing a firearm.

You were talking about changing axles. I personally like mine with the 10 bolt. The 3.08 gearing lets you cruise at 60 without over reving the engine. It makes the truck more streetable. If you're into rock crawling, I can see the change to heavy duty, high ratio gearing. I always hear guys trashing the 10 bolt, but for street use and snow travel and MPG, the M1009 is very good as it is. If I ever change anything it would be the transmission when it wears out and go to the 700r4 for the overdrive, which would bring the freeway speed up. If your 10 bolt ever does give up you can get a semi float 14 bolt cheap and they are strong. It just depends where and how you are going to use the truck. I drove one of these as a daily driver for many years. Yours looks like a really nice one.

If you put a air ram/tube on your air filter and plumb it out to the grill it will really knock down the roar of the engine. Yours is facing the wrong way in the video. Just turning the air intake on the air filter away from you will also help.

@@VermontPrepper I'm trying to decide whether to get the 1009 or the 1008.
@VermontPrepper4 жыл бұрын
As you probably know already, it depends on what you need more - something enclosed, or a pickup. They each have their merits. In my view, a 1009 is more of a daily driver with the gearing. The 1008 will be best if you go to home depot a lot.

@@VermontPrepper I plan to us it primarily as a work truck. I have a 04 Cummings right now and I'm looking to down grade because I don't do the towing I once did.
@VermontPrepper4 жыл бұрын
If you need a big tool box, the 1008 is the way to go. My 1028 has a large toolbox and I'm thing of putting a toolbox on the bed as well. There is not a ton of room in the 1009
@PapayaJoy6 жыл бұрын
I am looking at one of these... do you think it can tow much?
@VermontPrepper6 жыл бұрын
PapayaJoy, I would go for the M1008 pick up version if you are looking to tow. It has bigger gears and a longer wheelbase. The Blazer is not really made for towing a lot. Hope this helps.
@Skyfall-sv8df6 жыл бұрын
I had a m1009 and replaced it with a m1008. M1008 is much better suited for towing and off road use. M1009 is a much better daily driver.
@VermontPrepper6 жыл бұрын
Agree. Wheel base is short on M1009, but I like having the rear extra seat area. Been looking at m1008s as well to add to the collection.
@Skyfall-sv8df6 жыл бұрын
@@VermontPrepper the m1008 is a one ton truck and has a Dana 60 in the front and 14 bolt in the rear with a Detroit locker. It is awsome off road! The m1009 is basically a half ton and the axles kinda suck and the gov locker is prone to fail very badly if not used with care. Other then that though, the m1009 is a great truck. I did enjoy mine and miss it but m1008 is superior in my opinion. But also depends on a person's needs too. Do an axle swap and you will have the best of both trucks.
