The gun is long. The barrel is not free-floated. There are no fancy optics. And it gets one of the best scores ever on 9-Hole Reviews. What a testament to both the original M16 premise and Henry Chan's abilities!
@anthonyhallsten65785 жыл бұрын
Cj R long barrel = more velocity Free float barrel doesn’t matter when your shooting 21 rounds. Nobody should need optics when firing this out to 500 yards. This is probably the easiest weapon to connect with at 500 yards and in with iron sights.
@anthonyhallsten65784 жыл бұрын
Infectious Legume Problem with what you are saying is, this IS a controlled setting, and I’m not confusing free floating with heavy. If you are firing 21 rounds at this slow a pace, the barrel shouldn’t get hot enough to need to flex and “do its thing” as everyone says these days. There’s a reason the M16A4 has been a service rifle for so long. If us “dumbass” Marines can easily connect at 500 yards on a range consistently with iron sights, then so can anybody else.
@anthonyhallsten65784 жыл бұрын
Infectious Legume you’re getting way too technical with what you’re thinking I said versus what I know I said, and just basically trying to argue for the sake of arguing. All I know is I had used one of these A4’s for 4 years straight before getting issued an M4 and this weapon system will reach out a hell of a lot further than just 500. And yeah, I never shot 55 grain projectiles with it, because we were issued M855 rather than XM193. I was however, able to connect out to a little over 800 meters, in shitty conditions, onto moving hard targets as well a stationary and slow moving soft targets just fine with a 4x optic. I get that that’s not with iron sights, but I have also connected well out to 500 yards with iron sights on this rifle and was able to shoot 12 inch groups with no problem whatsoever. I understand the harmonics, and that the vibration of the projectile passing through the barrel can cause point of impact shift due to barrel movement but to be quite honest, I never had any issues with it. I said what I said because I meant it lol. I don’t just say shit on here to say things. The guy was in awe that this rifle was able to reach out and touch at these ranges and I just wanted to state that this weapon system is pretty much perfect for just that. A 20” barrel and a 3000 FPS muzzle velocity makes it pretty easy to connect not only at 500, but at the 800 meter MER of this rifle. 55 grain, 62 grain, 69 grain, 77 grain...it doesn’t matter. If you can shoot, you can shoot. If you can’t, then it’s easy to make excuses.
@anthonyhallsten65784 жыл бұрын
Infectious Legume would you like me to agree with everything you say? I agree with everything you say. Do you feel better? Chill out man. Henry is honestly a terrible shot. 90% of his videos he is making stupid mistakes and rushing. As for me making a “big dumb ass statement about my David Crockett Jarhead eagle eye skills”, I simply told you how it is for me. Personally, I shoot well at distance, and most guys I know and shoot with do as well. If you don’t then I don’t know what to tell you. You can throw science and physics out there all day, but’s it’s not like it can’t be overcome with some simple sight adjustments and a hold over lol. Physics are physics. You just have to adjust for variable factors and do your fucking thing. It’s not that hard. And you can throw your statements about projectile energy on target at that range as well, and all I’m going to say in rebuttal is: I’ve seen a 5.56 round take people out at those ranges. I’ve seen it multiple times. I’m not here to go all hoorah and be some fucking motard. I’m stating that I’ve seen the round work, I’ve seen the rifle work, I’ve made both of them work at long range. You’re the one who came here with your big ole dick draggin in the sand, quoting me and trying to pick at every little thing I said because of your vast experience at matches and other places where you shoot at stationary pieces of paper or steel lol. Take a Xanax, grab a glass of whiskey, and relax or something man. You’re wound wayyyy too tight. Have a good night buddy🤙

The A4 is indeed a lot more accurate because majority of all A2s have been around since the late 1980s and the barrels were heavily fouled with copper. Especially service rifles. The A4s were brand new around the early 2000s when they were issued. Very few Basic Training units had A4s because A2s were still plenty in supply. A4s were issued out of the box to regular units and went into combat after they were zeroed. The Marines I think got the majority of all A4s during the mid 2000s. Because around 2003 and beyond Army National Guard infantry units had A4s with BUIS , standard detachable carrying handle sights, or early M68 Aimpoints. By the early 2000s majority of Army infantry units especially those destined for Iraq or Afghanistan were all equipped with M4s and Aimpoints with BUIS. In 2006 through 08 when I was in Iraq all soldiers not infantry were armed with A4s with standard sights and A2s on the FOBs. The truck drivers who went on convoys and convoy security had regular battle sights even on the roads of Iraq. Only the infantrymen had goodies on their rifles. With the exception of Artillery guys who were made into infantry, Combat Engineers, Cav Scouts, and Tankers were equipped like the infantry.

The M1903 ladder sight has not one but two apertures built into it, each designed for a different purpose. If the user opted for snap shooting, there was a battle-sight zero notch as well - graduated to 550 or so yards, if memory serves. A zero which would be roughly 10-12 inches high at 100 yards. The M1905-1906 sights - the leaf or ladder sights which originally equipped M1903 rifles - are actually very good sights, but they do take some time and effort to master. Why so many functions built into a rear sight? The answer lies in the fact that in those now-distant times, when military-pattern bolt-action rifles firing powerful center-fire smokeless powder cartridges were still relatively new, military authorities and designers still believed that wars would be fought at extended ranges, well in excess of the 100-200 yards customary before the invention of smokeless propellants in the 1880s. In those days, a rifle section was considered an area-denial weapon, which is why M1903 sights were graduated out to 2,000 yards. If an officer or NCO spotted enemy troops massing in the distance for an attack, he could direct fire from his section - platoon, company, whatever - onto them in an effort to break-up their attack. By optical observation and skilled range-finding, rounds could be walked onto the mass of enemy troops. When crew-served weapons came into widespread use in WWI, such as heavy MGs, mortars and fast-firing artillery, these weapons replaced rifles as area-denial weapons at long range. The Japanese even built an anti-aircraft sight into their sighting system on the Arisaka bolt-action. Later, when it as discovered that most modern infantry small arms engagements took place at ranges under 300 yards, these various extra functions on rifle sights became superfluous and unnecessary, which resulted in simpler and more-intuitive designs easier for the soldier to use under pressure in the field.

The velocity difference between 20” and 16” bbl is sometimes huge people don’t realize can make a very big difference
@rabbitdrink5 жыл бұрын
m193 was designed with 20" in mind after all
@GeorgiaBoy19615 жыл бұрын
When using M193 55-grain FMJ/ball ammo, those extra four inches of barrel length were important, because the original ammunition for the M16 derived part of its lethality (n terminal ballistics terms) from velocity. Specifically, above 2750-2800 fps, the M193 bullet could be induced to shatter into several fragments, increasing its effect on target. Below that MV, M193 is still lethal, just not as reliably so. In practical terms, it means that a 20-inch barrel M16 has an envelope of hyper-effectiveness out to 150 meters using M193Ball, whereas the M4 Carbine sees that same envelope reduced to 75 meters. High MV remained important with 62-grain M855 62-grain green-tip, but modern ammunition utilized more-advanced technology for their projectiles, and is not as dependent on high MV for its effectiveness.

Frangoh if those are anything like the sights on my AR15A2. They are pretty easy to use. I need to compare my Irons with the 4x carry handle scope I have currently on my rifle. My suspicion is the irons would be more accurate than the glass, even with my almost 50 year old eyes.

Revisiting this video at almost four years later, I can still confirm that the M16A4 is very capable. 1.5 MOA thereabouts with PMC M855, and a bit less with M855A1. If you use 77gr OTM, it could even do MOA. The M16A4 can be unwieldy, no doubt, but it is the finest iteration of a full length rifle. Its capabilities deserved to be repeated. I speak as a five-year owner of an FN M16A4. I love that rifle then, and now.

Without a free float barrel, that rifle was within "minute of chest cavity" out the practical limits of the cartridge. Simply swap the carry handle for an appropriate optic, and you have quick and dirty DMR set up that a disciplined and well practiced rifleman can put to good effect.

Uhhh we didn’t have a free float barrel in the Marine Corps and I could still shoot a Copenhagen can at 500 yards !!! “Minute of chest cavity my ass”....if the accuracy was that shitty....I would not be here to type this after 8 combat tours between Iraq, Afghanistan & Africa!!!! I used iron sights from 1998-2006 2006-2007 I used the RCO On the shooting team we used iron sights and still didn’t have a free float barrel I had what was issued to me and it killed its intended target...but sometimes it took up to 9 rounds with the M16..!! Using the M40A3 that was a free float barrel...but it was meant to be a precision rifle...sniping was more precise So was the competition rifles the shooting teams used... Back at the battalion armory....stock rifle works just as well... Use a piece of tape between the upper and lowers..to make the fit tight. Sight black the front sight and rear sights. I shot expert 16 times with a stock rifle!! Many times I did it standing USMC / Retired

The thing most people don’t realize is if you suck at the fundamentals, you’ll actually suck with an RCO, especially at the 500. With irons, theres no way you can focus on the target and not your sights at that distance. You’d be surprised how many Staff NCOs qualed expert on irons, say shooting an RCO is easy, and then suck at it. Irons are definitely harder but don’t be the cocky prick that acts like they’re the end all be all

I got a chance to try one of these style rifles yesterday. After shooting a dozen rounds or so, I was shocked how easy it is to hit. We only had a 100 yard range available, but a recreational shooter with no formal training (me) was able to hit and keep all the shots inside a 3" circle. Now I have to figure out how to put peep sights in my Henry and Marlin lever actions.

@Nick 718 I'm too fat and sweaty to carry a 308 all day along with all that gear but that doesn't make you wrong. Shame most dudes would rather pretend that 308 isn't better than admit they just aren't strong enough to carry it all day.
@einzelfeuer_28555 жыл бұрын
@Nick 718 Yeah as far as I see it there is nothing the 5.56 can do that a 308 can't do better. The "disadvantages" people list for 308 are VERY telling..."it's heavier, it recoils harder, it's more expensive, it's a bulkier rifle" etc...If you have the fitness and the cash there is only one drawback at all and that isn't even one that applies to all rifles evenly. A shorter barreled collapsible stock 308 like an FAL para or an M1A customized right or even the shorter barrel collapsible stock G3 type rifles are as compact as any 5.56 carbine. They just weigh a little more and kick a good deal harder with more muzzle rise. Again if you're fit enough, have the money and have the right rifle there is nothing a 5.56 can do that a 308 can't do better. You can even get 30 round 308 mags for FAL, G3, AR10, M1A, etc. Guys don't want to admit that they aren't as fit and wealthy as they imagine they are so they trash the bigger cartridged rifles instead of accepting that their choice of rifle is the best for them for the simple reason that they aren't cut out for the harder to use rifles. In militaries the world over they pick the bigger guys for automatic weapon duty and the more capable shooters get DMRs. Most nations use 30 caliber high velocity rounds for those tasks because they are simply better. Add to that that combat data shows more actual casualties are caused by the gunners and marksmen typically than the rest combined and it's even more proof that the intermediate chambered rifles/carbines are just compromise solutions to allow more people to be combat effective than otherwise would be.
