Fine fun video! I don't have M2 experience, but several of your points resonated with me after my years driving a 2011 Evo MR. After the first couple of weeks, I found myself always, all the time, in Sport+ mode. The Evo being more basic transportation, I didn't worry much about the sound; but it did have a twin-scroll so boost was noticeable above 3000 RPM. The 12 gal tank and 15 MPG was ditto for me with that car; range was a very frequent annoyance. Traction control on the Evo was something that was too heavy-handed and I kept automatic yaw control off unless it was fresh rain after months of dry road here in California. (It saved me once when I was just learning the car and got into understeer, before I learned to blip the throttle and get AWD oversteer.) My DCT was a Getrag 6DCT470 (six speed, 470 Nm) and in Sport+ it was much like you describe. I think that some Getrag version is/was in some M3 and 458 Ferrari as well. The international maintenance schedule says to change the Getrag's fluid after 50,000 km, which I should have done; the US Evo specs said 100,000 km, and I had a failure (which you experienced the early stages of) at 59,400 miles on a 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. I say just change the damn fluid at 30,000 miles! My second Getrag developed a mechatronic problem after 6000 miles, and that was also replaced under warranty. Bottom line: I loved the DCT but by value it's almost the heart of the vehicle and really deserves some care and feeding in the maintenance department. Otherwise, having paddles that shift in 300 milliseconds with perfect rev-matching on downshifts is something that is fun to get used to and can really change your driving style in a performance situation. That, and IMO you can't really learn the limits of the transmission unless the car is your daily driver and you are constantly in Sport+ mode!

Nice review. My M2 Comp is just past break-in service, mileage does improve. I've gotten near 30 highway, and low 20s on a spirited mountain drive. With the huge mid-range torque, I rarely feel the need to rev past 5k on the street, and results in better MPG. You can program nav addresses, media functions, menu shortcuts, and more into the buttons, has been an iDrive feature for years.

Tough one but the M3 is much more of a cruiser and you've gotta like 4 doors. Adjustable suspension on the m3 makes it much more comfortable for long highway runs. The m2 is not a very comfortable long range car.

@Ryem35 жыл бұрын
M4 didn't make the cut. It's luxurious and quick, but not terribly exciting. And I think it's a poor value, especially new. An M4 CS over $100k? Pretty ridiculous to me. You can get a couple year old car for $60k, which is a good value if you want more of a highway cruiser. The exhaust does need help. Hopefully the M exhaust finally comes and it sounds better than the aftermarket options, which have not been impressive. In respect to the manual, I had a manual 2017. It was fun, but not terribly impressive. I opted for the DCT in the Comp and would highly recommend it over the manual. One bonus of the M4 over the M2 is the adjustable suspension. Be sure you'll be happy with the stiffer, fixed suspension of the M2. It isn't for everyone. It is far from a really stiff car and much improved over the original car, but it's still pretty stiff. I think rides even more stiffly than a 2018 GT3. Depends on your personal preference and what you will use the car for.
