Fine fun video! I don't have M2 experience, but several of your points resonated with me after my years driving a 2011 Evo MR. After the first couple of weeks, I found myself always, all the time, in Sport+ mode. The Evo being more basic transportation, I didn't worry much about the sound; but it did have a twin-scroll so boost was noticeable above 3000 RPM. The 12 gal tank and 15 MPG was ditto for me with that car; range was a very frequent annoyance. Traction control on the Evo was something that was too heavy-handed and I kept automatic yaw control off unless it was fresh rain after months of dry road here in California. (It saved me once when I was just learning the car and got into understeer, before I learned to blip the throttle and get AWD oversteer.) My DCT was a Getrag 6DCT470 (six speed, 470 Nm) and in Sport+ it was much like you describe. I think that some Getrag version is/was in some M3 and 458 Ferrari as well. The international maintenance schedule says to change the Getrag's fluid after 50,000 km, which I should have done; the US Evo specs said 100,000 km, and I had a failure (which you experienced the early stages of) at 59,400 miles on a 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. I say just change the damn fluid at 30,000 miles! My second Getrag developed a mechatronic problem after 6000 miles, and that was also replaced under warranty. Bottom line: I loved the DCT but by value it's almost the heart of the vehicle and really deserves some care and feeding in the maintenance department. Otherwise, having paddles that shift in 300 milliseconds with perfect rev-matching on downshifts is something that is fun to get used to and can really change your driving style in a performance situation. That, and IMO you can't really learn the limits of the transmission unless the car is your daily driver and you are constantly in Sport+ mode!

Nice review. My M2 Comp is just past break-in service, mileage does improve. I've gotten near 30 highway, and low 20s on a spirited mountain drive. With the huge mid-range torque, I rarely feel the need to rev past 5k on the street, and results in better MPG. You can program nav addresses, media functions, menu shortcuts, and more into the buttons, has been an iDrive feature for years.

Well done, thanks! I drove a long highway drive and maxed out at 26 mpg. I'd find it hard to imagine anyone getting more. Posted my dash on Instagram. The highway was strictly cruise control too. Around town, I've got a lead foot, what can I tell you! Yeah, I've used the magic buttons for a while too. Even auto dial a phone number. Pretty cool feature

Nice review and some handy information. I also have a M2Comp and really enjoy the car. Having owned two 911's over the last 10 years I find this a refreshing drive as a daily driver. Not that there isn't a 911 again in my future, but the bang-for-the-buck of the M2 Comp is exceptional. I agree with all your points - especially the comment about the stock wheels. They are disappointing and a trouble to clean. Again, thanks!

With less invasive traction control , are you saying the back end can go sideways easier ? I’m a basic driver so not sure if that scares me or not. Can you drive this bad boy in the winter with winter tires ? Love the straight forward reviews. Thank you. I drive a 328 x drive manual 2011. Love it

Thanks. Yes, especially in MDM mode, it will definitely get sideways more easily. I have winter tires on mine, you'll see the video with the original generation wheels. These are definitely not great winter cars, although they are fine in the cold and dry, in the snow they are a handful even with winter tires.

Tough one but the M3 is much more of a cruiser and you've gotta like 4 doors. Adjustable suspension on the m3 makes it much more comfortable for long highway runs. The m2 is not a very comfortable long range car.

I currently have a M3 comp, my m2 comp will be here in 4 days. I test drove a m2c today and i can tell you its night and day in how comfortable the m2 is. I really dislike the harshness of the M3C, i live in orlando FL and i always go to Miami to visit my mother. My back would hurt within the first hour of the trip and would have to stop. I’m 23 years old btw. I fell in love with the m2c with just a 8 mile test drive, its a while different car (i had my m3c for 55k miles).

@Ryem3
@Ryem3 6 жыл бұрын
Ah, that is the $64,000 question (literally)! The upgrade is more than just the engine and a shiny strut brace. Also given what I expect will be accelerated depreciation of the OG car, the upgrade turned out to be a good move. I was surprised how the other, not highlighted improvements really made it worthwhile. Principally the change in steering and ride quality.

Hey there great info I’m in White Plains I see you’re close by. I recently put a deposit on an M2 Comp with manual tranny My only complaint was the exhaust was too quiet Going between this or m4 what made you buy your M2
@Ryem3
@Ryem3 5 жыл бұрын
M4 didn't make the cut. It's luxurious and quick, but not terribly exciting. And I think it's a poor value, especially new. An M4 CS over $100k? Pretty ridiculous to me. You can get a couple year old car for $60k, which is a good value if you want more of a highway cruiser. The exhaust does need help. Hopefully the M exhaust finally comes and it sounds better than the aftermarket options, which have not been impressive. In respect to the manual, I had a manual 2017. It was fun, but not terribly impressive. I opted for the DCT in the Comp and would highly recommend it over the manual. One bonus of the M4 over the M2 is the adjustable suspension. Be sure you'll be happy with the stiffer, fixed suspension of the M2. It isn't for everyone. It is far from a really stiff car and much improved over the original car, but it's still pretty stiff. I think rides even more stiffly than a 2018 GT3. Depends on your personal preference and what you will use the car for.

My understanding is the seating position is the same. Honestly, I've heard it isn't straight, but I haven't looked at it! All toll, the position is good and the car is very comfortable.

I have the delete harness sitting in my garage! I had it on my 2017 - that car would drone on the highway. You'll find that the piped in sound in the Competition is MUCH less intrusive. : the m2 cp (3600 lbs ) its 110 lbs heavier than a 2018 M3 ( 3490 lbs) and 150 lbs heavier than standar M2 ( 3450 lbs ). Weight play an importany role n racing applications.

The stereo in the M2C is garbage. My 2018 Jeep Wrangler has the Alpine stereo w/ subwoofer & it sounds 100x better than my BMW. Other than that; have no complaints.

I have the HK stereo, like every US car. However, I swapped all the drivers for Focal units. Drop in replacements, including connectors. Makes a huge improvement. Highly recommended
Гениальное изобретение из обычного стаканчика!
