Great information. Another thing to mention. If you have a squib load or an out of battery discharge it's a good idea to take a minute to check the barrel and make sure the wad made it out. I've seen it on more than one occasion.

There has been more than one shotgun barrel busted when the wad gets stuck in the barrel.

I have a Stoeger m2000 and have experienced the same choke phenomenon both in pattern density and placement. Extended, ported turkey chokes usually produce best results on long shots, but an adjustable rear sight is needed to center the pattern. Consequently, I have a 24” bbl with adjustable sights on the rib for turkey and deer as well as a 28” with just the bead for birds on the wing. And I only use extended aftermarket chokes. I’ve never had an out of battery/squib kind of event like that. There are some out of spec factory shells that didn’t like to chamber, but they usually go in if they aren’t the first round in out of the magazine. That one usually doesn’t have the same energy driving into the chamber as the second round that’s following a fired round. My gun also allows me to force the bolt home with the charging handle, even though they say it shouldn’t work like that. Sometimes there is a very sharp edge on the mouth of the chamber where the extractor relief cut is. That edge has caught on the brass and held the bolt out of battery on my gun twice. I hand polished that edge and that took care of the problem. I have over 1,000 rounds through the gun and had to replace the ejector once, likely due to a high velocity, heavy payload duck round. The gun never malfunctioned with the broken ejector. I noticed it after a duck hunt when I was cleaning the gun. And I had shot at least 100 rounds of skeet after the duck hunt with the missing ejector and it worked perfectly.

Wade Rush, Another great video. I have been watching your videos and am getting ready to load some custom loads for my 10 gauge. I powder coated some 00 buck this evening. I cast them with the Lee 18 cavity mold. The Lee mold casts really well, but only after the mold was very hot. Prior to the mold getting super hot, the 3 shot string of pellets would not form right. I bought a pound of blaze orange powder from "Powder by the Pound" and they turned out good. I told a bunch of shotgun hunters at work and at my hunt club about your channel and all the great information you are putting out. You put out one video titled " 5 best buckshot loads" or something similar and the patterns at 65 yards were incredible. I had all but given up on buckshot years ago, but after seeing the patterns you are getting, I have a renewed interest in it and will be testing my own real soon. Awesome job! Always look forward to your new videos!! Reconrokon from Virginia

Another good video great information keep up the good work Wade. I am still loading and testing buckshot on this side of pond. Been loading a lot of 2 Buck [18 &21 pellet loads] and getting very good results out of Mossy 500, 0.690 choke/24 inch barrel.

We used to hunt deer with dogs and a lot of us used shotguns with buckshot. No. 1 buck was my favorite as it patterned very well from my Win. Super X Model 1 full choke. Back in the day Winchester was known for having tighter patterns than Remington (way before choke tubes). I have seen some Remington's that would not pattern any buckshot. I think some of these choke tubes grab the shot column and throws the pattern off like I saw today. One thing is for sure, you never know what you are going to get unless you test it and even then if you buy the same box of buckshot with a different lot number your pattern may get bigger or smaller depending on what they changed in the shell, be it powder lot number, wad lot number, primer lot number.. Granted, probably not much of a difference on a shotgun, but could be a deal breaker on a rifle. Looks like ya'll may have to make some changes (law permitting) to some dedicated rifle standers due to open areas.

Wade as you already know I’ve patterned hundreds of those Rem 3” 00 and 000 buck loads with the same results that you got here more often than not. 3” Rem 000 awesome but 00 not so much. Lawdhamercy can’t hardly tell none of my peeps nothin’. Lol. 😂. Appreciate and enjoy your videos brother!

When i had my Benelli i tried every chock in the box it really liked the Modified Chock without a doubt for 00's best by far. I did not try #4's. But Remington 00 and Federal's #1's were by far it almost like shooting a rifle. That's no lie. Loved the gun. Tell the barrel got bent. But thats another story.

Wade, getting any shotshell to register a hit on running game at 65 yards is remarkable but the chance of the smaller shot going through skin and flesh to hit a heart or lung is a very big ask, especially if the deer is running away at 30 ft./sec. It would be interesting to see how far the shot will penetrate ballistics gel at 65 yards or if something like skin, say denim material will be holed if stretched over a target at that range. My guess is that no,4 buck will only sting it at 65 yards.
@BubbaRountreeOutdoors
@BubbaRountreeOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
back in the 40's and 50's the US military would use a 3/4" sheet of plywood as a target media to test low velocity rounds like Buckshot. the idea was; that if the pellets could penetrate that sheet of plywood then the pellet had the power not only for full penetration but could break bone!! I am going to try and copy that test in a video for you guys...

Hey Wade ,l always heard You do not shoot buckshot through a Turkey choke it was to tight to shoot through with buckshot and not safe? can you Safely shoot buckshot through Turkey choke or a choke tighter than a full. I need a good tight choke from my 20 gauge for shooting buckshot , What do you recommend .

Most turkey chokes say; 'Lead shot only' and that includes buckshot for sure! You can't shoot steel shot thru a tight choke. I have shot buckshot thru a .655 constriction Carlson turkey choke with good results!

Bubba Rountree Outdoors Not bad, my dad’s 2003 had just over 240,000 on it before the transmission went and we were using it commercially too, we put 50,000 on it just in 2011. I don’t get much into truck brand debates but I can say I’ve never been disappointed with a Silverado.
