Driven them back to back 1M all day. I love 1M, but it needs seats and an exhaust. Overall, I love the smaller size 1M (smaller than an E46) and hydraulic steering of the car.

Adding hybrid turbos to the 1M shifts the power band just enough to the right imo. No more sledgehammer of torque low down to unsettle the rear axle, and no more running out of breath at the top end. Add some E85 and you can start making some properly serious power, and the chassis has no problems putting it down. Mine puts down ~600 on street rubber with no fuss at all.

M2CS over 1M for me. No contest. 1M rides a little too tall for me. M2CS is just fabulous. That’s why I own one already and would like to own another one.

I do agree that the 1M was the testbed for FI M cars and also M cars smaller than 3 series. The N54 sucks but makes it what it is. M2CS with carbon roof, bonnet maybe other bits I'm missing plus functional vents is a far more finished product. But also a lost opportunity even for a CS to lighten it further.

N54 is a great torque engine that showed to the people that M cars are not about high revving engines but about sliding and powersliding... And you need modern turbo engines for that

The 1M is only so desirable because of it's low production numbers. The M2CS is a better car in every way. In fact, my OG M2 is a better car than the 1M. The 1M was the test mule, and the M2 was the polished and final product.

Im biased , but M2 CS all day. Proper M engine-cooling etc. It drives great , even better than the 1M. Both great tho .

There are some individual colors for the 1M but very very limited and I believe only for some BMW employees at the time.

Currently own a 1M and previously the e46 m3. 1M is heavily modded and a beast but I can’t imagine the csl.

Is the 1M worth double the cost of the e46 M3? I have an e46 m3 i want to sell for a 1M but hard to justify the price as I love my e46

@@AlexGrayI know this is a late comment, but thought I give my input for anyone who might ever be in a similar dilemma. (Use to have an E46 M3, traded for a 1M). If you prefer agility and power, the 1M is probably the best factor, and I think the closest car to compete with that is the M2CS, feels super playful. The embodiment of a gokart. The E46 is emotional (a weird example I would compare it to is the GT350, where it does have the handling, we mainly focus on the soul, aka the Voodoo, or in this case the S54). That high revving sound is something I sometimes yearn for, as there is no car that can compare, both in noise & emotion. For me, however, I traded in the M3 because I wanted to go to the track more, and the car was extremely fun around twisties and didn’t really think much about the M3 except the noise. Going on touge took a bit more time to adapt, but actually went faster than the M3. It depends on whether you prefer dramatic noise of the E46 M3 or the agility of the 1M. I preferred agility. Issue is now the 1M is harder to maintain compared to a E46 M3, since it’s now considered a collector’s car, hence why I’m actually trying to find an M2CS after test driving one. Sry for the essay.
