Great video as always Jimmy! I initially ordered the M3 version and upgraded the RAM to 16GB until I realized that it was only $200 to get all the benefits of M3 Pro, more than double the RAM of the base model, better processor, extra thunderbolt port, space black color, ability to drive 2 external displays, better thermals. Ended up canceling my order and getting the base M3 Pro and am currently typing this on that device, super happy with my purchase!

I stopped myself this year. I have both M1 MacBook Pro- 32gb 2TB and an M2 Max 32gb 2TB Mac Studio. I don’t even do video work and I mostly use ms office, lots of browser tabs and stock trading. My MacBook Pro is in my laptop bag 90% of the time. Apple is great at sucking you into buying things u don’t need but not this time! Will use some discipline and wait a few years when performance becomes noticibly frustrating. Until then I still browse configurations of the M3. M7 is my next target purchase.

This is easily the best M3 MacBook Pro review I've ever seen (got yourself a new subscriber!) Most KZbinrs promote the M3 Max and make you think that that's the one you MUST buy. But, as you say,, the M3 Pro is plenty good enough for the average user. Your analysis is superb. The only other KZbinr who provides the average user an honest and accurate review is Chris from DailyTekk, who also provides an honest view. Good on you and many thanks. 👍

Interesting review ! I’ve just ordered the M3 Max. I know it’s overkill for my needs, but just having it there is amazing. I was initially going to buy the M3 Pro! But was really annoyed that they decreased the Performance Cores from the M2 Pro! So that’s kinda why I purchased the Max. It’s got 10 performance cores. I’m coming from an 2012 MacBook Pro

What a great review. Half a year ago got an M1 Pro. And it’s more than enough for all of my needs. Amazing all around, the screen, keyboard, battery life, quality speakers, good webcam. Thought of upgrading to M3 Pro, the base one, but after all, there’s not much of a difference between them. The new color. Eh. It’s easier to scratch and will be more visible. So keeping my M1 Pro till maybe M4 and even M5 comes out. Because it was a crazy jump from Intel machines in every aspect. Really appreciate the review being honest. And that We rarely need that much amounts of power for all the work.

I have the base M1 Studio Max that I purchased when it was released, and last July I picked up a refurbished M1 Pro MacBook Pro 14 (16GB/1TB) for travel and other portable needs. This has been the perfect combination (for me) because Apple did such a good job with the M1 chips, and I have all the power that I need.

@@JimmyTriesWorldabout 4 nmonths ago Adorama had this crazy fair deal m1 max 16” 1tb 64gb memory for 2299 new with standard apple warranty. I am a graphic designer that owns an agency and so far I can not imagine a scenario of getting a newer one if only to say it’s newer:). to me the biggest difference with the silicon chips is the whole idea of future proofing I’m not really sure that exists anymore in the sense that the hardware is catching up to the software. I’m sorry the other way around the software is catching up to the hardware and it only seems like it gets faster. Even with the M1 versus having to go and get newer one to get quicker. I just I don’t know it’s it’s pretty amazing. It’s almost like Apple did too good of a job but I think that’s why they really change the lineup with the M3 because there’s definitely a difference you can see in the speed and also what you can use it for I think they kind of learned their lesson from a marketing standpoint.

I appreciate the reasonableness of this video. It is easy to get caught up in the craze thinking you need the best of the best. The reality is, most of us won't touch that level. I'm waiting to see how the M3 gets incorporated into desktop Macs before purchasing my next computer. I'm running a M2 MBA for my daily driver and it is flawless for 99% of what I do on a laptop. The only thing I would change would be getting the 15" version instead. But the M2 MBA rocks in portability.

I work at a Ford Dealership. Some of my customers who purchase a Ford Mustang GT aren't necessarily purchasing the car because they need all that power or they need to go fast all the time. For some just knowing they have that power under the hood is all the reason they need to own it. I own a MacBook Pro 14 with the M3 Max chip 30 core GPU and 36gb. I probably won't ever use all that power anytime soon, but just knowing I have it there (just in case🤦) is all the reason I needed to purchase it over the M3 or M3 pro chip. 👍😉

I know what you mean about travelling with a 16”. I have done it. Its okay…until you have to travel with two machines (the other a Windows-based laptop). So, I ended up adding a 13” M2 MB Air to my existing 16” M1Pro MBP machine line-up. This should really reduce the weight when travelling. I am sure there will be times when I need to travel with the 16”…but I took a look at my typical use and realized that in the majority of cases the smaller machine will do just fine.

Yes! buy your computer in the sweet spot: if you spend thousands of dollars extra for power/speed that you don't use, you've wasted your money; buy not enough speed/power and you may also lose money because you'll be tempted to sell and buy another, again an expensive proposition---Instead, talk to people who use macs for exactly the type of work that you will do, and listen to their experience. One of the best reviews I've seen regarding cost vs. power

Great review, I'm a video editor and just got the M3 max with 512 gb ssd and 36gb ram, and it does fantastic on 4k footage and AE... coming from i7cpu machines, this m3 chip is a power horse....I can edit 4k 10 bit on AP at full resolution plus some effects like: CC and luts like nothing. On AE I have to create a video clip with multiple clips with the gran total of 100 video clips as collage for a intro for work. this machine was more than capable. Get the 36 gb ram for heavy to medium video editing, the first m3 I purchased had only 18 gb of ram, for me wasn't enough for the work load I was throwing at it. specially if you have AP and AE open at the same time.

Edit: And you mentioned future-proofing right at the very end of the video. derp! That's what I get for not finishing the video before commenting. I know this was 6 months ago, at least at the time of this comment, but I feel it's important to note that "future-proofing" your equipment is a very important aspect of ensuring your laptop has longevity. As in, 5 years down the road, your laptop should still run at the same speed as the day you bought it, even after multiple major/annual software updates. Sticking with an M3 Pro chip might make sense *now*, but in 5 years... there is a strong chance it may not have enough horsepower to keep up with more features brought by annual major MacOS updates.

Yo this video is what more people need to see, i really think the average person has no idea how powerful their devices are ever since the m1 came out lol. Like the fact that apple is setting the M3 macbooks as their standard now that they no longer sell predecessors on the main apple website is wild to me, i'd estimate that 8/10 people buying m3 macs dont need anywhere near that much power. Good on you for humbling the average consumer about the M3 max but honestly you could go further and straight up tell people not to buy m3 macs if it's just a notebook for them.

I'm thinking of buying a Macbook Pro and while I do have the means to buy a full spec'd out M3 MAX I feel like I could get my money's worth going with an older model, even if it's not a MAX chip. You've made good points, for what I want to do (IT work/online WHF jobs, video editing, maybe photo editing, KZbin and basic everyday tasks) I don't think I need a MAX and probably won't be able to push it to its limits for my workload... maybe a Pro chip would be enough...

Hello Jimmy, could you please compare the battery life of M3 Pro and M3 Max 14" models and give us your own opinion how the battery life would be? When you compare them, please use Applications set up so you max the performance of M3 Pro chip and not other way around. That way M3 Pro will not start to throttle. If battery life on M3 Pro is better/longer, meaning fan noise and temperature lower, I'll go for M3 Pro but if it's the same or worse than M3 max I'll invest those 400$ more to make it future proof due to double memory bandwidth and double amount of video engines plus the additional CPU and GPU. Thank you a lot for your previous reviews and possibly for the next one where you will include battery test! They help me a lot in my decision between m3 pro and m3 max.

Probably even to test if not an MBA would do the job sufficient (if not a car that does it in 8s is more than enough asa daily), i'm always surprised how my MBA M1 16/256 does the job (i didn't expected it when buying) i assumed i will turn it in short time to a M3 Max, now i highly doubt perhaps when M4 or M5 launches but only because my youngest daughter reflects to the MBA M1 (lack of ports managed by a portable Novoo dock, lack of storage managed by an external Thunderboltt 2 TB drive, lack of screen size managed by a 21:9 1440p 40" display than even the problem of just one supported external display turns out to be none) What is the problem of the MBA M1 icannot game but to be honestthe M3 Max even in highest Spec has the same issue (gaming in medium settings at medium refreshrates is just a compromise) the macs are not gaming devices, they are just to expensive for that.

I think what is crazy is that Apple has made it so damn difficult to decide what to buy into -- weird memory configs, bare minimum storage configs on the M3 Pro, everything about how they've arranged pricing pushes you towards the M3 Max IMO. Case in point, where are the 48 / 64GB of unified memory for the M3 Pro? Why isn't 1TB of storage the default? I understand that some of this architectural with the chip, but it also is strange for M3 Max users that may want more flexible memory options. I would say the same thing kind of applies to any of their base models with 8GB of RAM. It's just a strange soup that has too many oddball options, and not enough no-brainer options. Don't even get me started on differences between the M2 Pro and M3 Pro, as well as the supposed AI-related architecture changes coming in M4 that may have you questioning buying into an upper-tier M3 Max configuration (would it be devalued by a vastly superior M4 Max that has AI capabilities built-in?).

It's great but I'd always regretted getting the base 8gigs of ram.. however I recently came across a 14" m3pro macbook pro in black, the 18gb one craigslist and was able to get her down to $1600.. At that price I couldn't pass it up. after I sell the air, the upgrade will have cost me $6-700. The pro chip is still overkill for most of my needs.. Hell, so was the m2 tbh! I appreciate all of the other upgrades but I was really after the ram. And if you buy outside of Apple eg Amazon you can just buy default configurations. And you get up to 20% discount. Custom configurations are much more expensive and usually not discounted. So ofc I don’t need a M3 Max but apple gave me with the ridiculous small storage option no choice.

Glad I found your showcase Just got the M3 Max /14/4tb/64GB. Not knowing better, I didn't count for some challenges like heat and shorter battery life compared to the 16". Should I consider swapping (somehow) with the 16" to future proof or downgrading to Pro version. I value portability and rest of the day, my macbook is docked with multiple monitors. I'm processing these thoughts with some confusion. Any thoughts or tips from a long-term usage with similar configuration? Thank you :)

This clip like most done by pundits are for content creators. For this techie normal I replaced my Apple iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) with 2TB SSD storage. I now have a MacBook Air M1 chip with 8‑core CPU, 7‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine, 16GB unified memory, 2TB SSD storage. With CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock. LG Ultra HD 5K Ultra Slim 27MD5KA-B Monitor on a black NB North Bayou VESA Monitor Arm Desk Mount. Going to keep this full setup like most normals till at least 2027. After all had my Apple iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch) for seven years. In fact still have it today as backup running macOS/UNIX Sonoma 14.X.X with the help of OpenCore Patcher. After that point I more than likely will purchase another Apple laptop to replace my Apple M1 MacBook Air, and keep everything else the same. After all how much power does a normal need?

Confused between the 14 inch m3 pro, 512 gb, 18gb vs 36gb or the 16 inch m3 max 14c/30c,36 gb 1 tb ssd. My needs are 4k video editing, lightroom and photoshop. I want the max but if m3 pro is enough, I don't want to overspend. Please help me make the right decision.

I have an m3 max with 64gb RAM, watching KZbin videos with Adobe PS and Lightroom open, Spotify, 20+ chrome tabs, and a bunch of other stuff, haven’t heard fans yet. That being said, they will get audible if they go on, but you really need to push it, like a large, long video export or something
@22utoo
@22utoo 9 ай бұрын
@@semperfitygaming5619 That's pretty good I suppose, I'm not sure how resource intensive Adobe PS and Lightroom are though. My problem is I tend to have hundreds of tabs open, so let's say 100 tabs total across 3 browsers, Safari tends to have the most tabs open than the other two browsers, even when I shut it down and restart Safari just to run KZbin, this 2015 macbook pro fan starts to spin. I'm just tired of the fan noise but it sounds like there is a good chance to get fan noise on the M3 Max if pushed enough. Probably a good idea to clean it of dust

Given the fact that you can’t upgrade after the purchase, I purchased a 16” MacBook Pro M3 Max. Is it more powerful than I need? Sure, but knowing that it will handle whatever I might throw at it 5 years from now, it’s worth it for me. The idea that people only buy the Max chip because they “need it” is unrealistic. A lot of people just want the best computer available, regardless of actual need.

I came from 2013 Rentina 15" with 16Gb and 765 SSD, the machine is running ok with web surfing but not capable of video editing since couple of years back. I've always wanted to future proof my machine and now I landed with a 16" M3 Max 128Gb and 2TB. I know this is an overkill but at least to me it will stay relevant in 5 years from now without needing an upgrade. I am an occasional video editor as an hobbyist so its more of a personal pursuit of having a machine that you know its capability when you need it one day. Great video.

My son uses Sibelius and Logic music software on an M1 MacBook Pro with 16 GB of RAM. He does not experience any limitations though I have read a posting from a professional composer that he needs all 128 GB in his Max system for his audio work. I have also read that those who edit large raw photos including panoramic photos or are editing multi-camera footage in their videos are better off going with 36 GB or more RAM. Certainly, the dual encoders / decoders in the Max would speed things up when editing video with footage from multiple cameras. If one upgrades the SSD to 1 TB and was planning to get the unbinned M3 Mac Book Pro with 36 GB of RAM, it is only one more upgrade to move onto the binned Max. When does it stop...

Please stop referring to Macbook Pros as a "classic web browsing machine". It is not it. And should not be considered as such. It is a powerful computer that is made for tough tasks. Buying it for web browsing is an overkill. And 'benchmarking' it over web browsing is well, just unfair, unjustfull etc. doesn't say anything. You could web browse with your pentium 100 back in the 90s and it was also OK. Web browsing is not an achievement for a modern buffed computer to be benchmarked over.

I don't know if this is normal or I got a faulty item. How can I know if this is normal? The tools that I'm using are visual studio code, nodejs, chrome, postgresql and python. Nothing out of normal. Also when this happen the battery is drained so fast, last time it took from 100% to 0% in no more that 4 hours.

No it is not normal as you describe it, unless you use it to such an extent. Heavy multicore tasks are the only ones that may push it enough. If I am not in rush and I would rather not suffer the fan, I just restrict the number of cores the task may use and that's it. If I do so, the fans are always off or almost silent. But it is nice to have the option to push it if I need to.
