Hey ! thanks for checking out my video !

Hi James, great video!! Very much enjoyed it! You are right about the damper - It would have solved 2 issues. The burn time for that stove and hardwood should be around 3-4 hours and with the damper the heat from the stove pipe would not have gotten so hot to melt your tent and damage the stove jack. The tent should have only been warm to the touch. I'd recommend getting a Magnetic Stove Thermometer from amazon for about $10 to help you regulate the stove. I've found cheap fire blankets from Amazon work best for stove jacks, just cut them and sew them to the right shape and use high temp RTV to seal the edge around the pipe opening (will show you on my next video 😉). I'd also recommend the TETON Celsius -32c square sleeping bags - they are cheap (but bulky) and work well. Me and Esme sleep in an XXL and a XL version no problems. Also for the wet wood - stack it around the stove to dry it, not so close to be a fire risk but close, you will be surprised how dry it gets in a few hours. Hope some of the tip help - Best wishes Michael & Esme! 🐶
@Maritimer4 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael ! thanks for checking out my video, i've been a subscriber of yours for a long time. I have a damper being installed as we speak and my father is building me a new stove jack out of a welders blanket, and it will have a metal collar on it for the stove pipe to pass through. should work much better. I saw those Teton bags on Amazon and wasn't sure how good they are, so thanks for the tips, I appreciate it !! Give Esme a treat and belly rub from Wendell and I.

Until the next one! Best wishes Michael & Esme! 🐶

Its winter camping, not to far from home or not, you must take care about dry fire wood. You have an ATV, so weight is not an issue. many go out with an ATV and have at least for one night dry and ready fire wood with them. Also a good sleeping system is very important, also for the dog. I prefer to sleep on a cot, and the dog has his own, smaller, but he loves it. We stay both from the ground. For winter camping you have to invest more, its more expensive, but you have one of the best stoves out there, that's good choise...

All the way from Gore's Landing, Ontario Great video ! Love to see Wendell as well. He has a lot of personality. Lol. Yes, I love mustard on my ham too. The g-stoves are great. I would love to make it to New Brunswick some day to hit up some trails.

hey man ! thanks for checking out my channel ! Yeah Wendell is a lot of fun to have with ya on these trips, keeps it interesting haha Once the Covid stuff is done, you should come down for a vacation.... there are a ton of folks moving here from ON right now too.

@@Maritimer Yes lot of Ontario people are moving out there. I watched a news report the other day where someone sold a house in Halifax for $250,000 over asking price ! House was listed for $699,000 and sold for just under 1 mill ! Crazy housing market right now over there. We live just an hour east of Toronto and find the market for us is nuts too. Lots of TO people moving this way as well. They want the country life but close to a lake and the 401 corridor. Some day the Grizzly and I will make it out to come and see you and Wendell. Keep safe and chat ya later.

That’s funny but true. The best would be get bigger stove or a better bag to sleep in and just have the stove ready to light in the morning. But I like it I would have laid a tarp down first.
@Maritimer3 жыл бұрын
Hey man ! the stove is plenty big to heat a little tent, it was my own mistake of not getting enough good wood. Then once the stove went out my sleeping bag was not even close to what I needed. I've sense upgraded to a US MSS bag. and I always make sure I get enough wood. lesson learned haha OH and I did have a tarp down under my sleeping bag and stuff.

Nice Ruger you got too 👍 firearms in the wilderness are a must! Anyway, great job on the video! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your wife!

Hey Taylor ! thanks so much ! yeah Winter camping is a whole new feel for sure, i'm also new to it, and learned a lot on this trip ! I agree with ya ! I sure wish we were allowed to have just a simple handgun in Canada, a nice 9mm or .45 would be perfect for self defence, but that will never happen. thanks again ! MC and HNY !

Ham and mustard is the only way to go. Also you should try Newfoundland steak (bologna). It's good with mustard too. Hardwood is the best fuel to use. Rock maple or birch should be available in NB. Dry your wood for at least a year. It will burn longer. Nice vid.

CABELAS sells some large -18c to -30c canvas sleeping bags which are very warm and do go on sale... will range from $180 - $280. They are a rectangular style giving you lots of room to move around. I purchased the Boulder Creek brand from Cabelas which went on sale for $119.00 ( reg $199.00) however it doesn't appear Cabelas carries this brand anymore. I'm sure the Cabelas brand will suit you fine... they are heavy, but you're ATV camping so not an issue.. it'll be a great investment you won't regret.. Make sure you buy a XL dry bag to put it in...

Get a sheet of wielder cloth for the stove and fold it over twice stitched together with the hole and a over flap for the possibility of rain dripping in from the top when not in use. My Hope is half Jack and Chihuahua but she's got 10 lbs on him, must be the weather here on Vancouver Island. Yeah mummy bag's aren't good for anyone who is a big set over a medium and when sharing with a pup you definitely need a XL bag.

great vid bruv. Great stove you have, now to work on a more fire resistant opening, and a damper... maybe even the water jacket for the stove.

Starbucks inta is the best , also almost no portable camping stove will burn wood all night unless you have iron wood or something like that . need a really good bed of coals before you go to bed and have a boat load split small to just wake up and feed the fire. Really you want the chill out of the air before you go to bed and then usually just start it in the morning to warm everything up. I used a minus 30 down bag when i go hot tenting because the fire will go out
@Maritimer4 жыл бұрын
Hey !! thats what I've heard... I guess you gotta pay for quality eh? We'll I don't expect the little stove to burn all night but a few hours would be nice. no blame on the stove, it was all my fault, totally. I don't think we have Iron wood in my neck of the woods.. although I've seen it on other channels. What type of bag do you have? I'm in the market haha I also have a decent thicker space blanket coming in the mail, to lay down and shield the ground cold from my back. man thanks for all the help and tips ! I appreciate it !!

Maritimer well any hard woods . I am close to Algonquin park . Hardwood central ! . And a damper really helps . Can’t remember if you have one . If not , get one installed on the 1st pipe regulate how fast it burns .
@Maritimer4 жыл бұрын

The key to winter camping in a hot tent is to take someone small and skinny with you, they will get cold much faster than you so they will be the first one to wake up and stoke the stove while you get a good nights rest.
