M4 Mango - Tasting Florida Mangos -

Today, Craig and Valerie taste a M4 Mango
We will be tasting both mangos grown at our own farm on the west coast of Florida and from other Florida farms (mainly on the east coast). Mangos taste different when grown in different conditions and when picked at different times/ripened differently. Our opinions of a particular mango are just that - opinions on one specific mango, off of a specific tree, growing in a a specific location. We are not evaluating a variety in general and by no means intend to offend anyone by our less than stellar review of what might be your favorite mango.
Sulcata Grove is our 2 acre, backyard food forest. We grow over 60 varieties of bananas along with many fruit trees. Our videos are family friendly.

Similar to sugarloaf mango when ripe. Heavy producer.

John Banach Our Cotton Candy we tried last year wasn’t perfectly ripe either. Our tree has more fruit this year. Looking forward to tasting it.

They say M4 has more coconut flavor than coconut cream. Do you think that taste description is wrong?

There's a mango in the beginning of your video that I've been searching for the name. It's in the middle, at the bottom and round. Its top is leaning against the newspaper that's folded upwards.

I’m not sure. Possibly a peach cobbler that colored up an unusual amount, for my tree. There are many mangos that look similar though.

What's the tree's growth habit? Slow, average, vigorous? Hard to find growth rate information on these new varieties. I bought one because I heard it was like coconut cream, but better. Instead of planting it, I might graft it onto another mango tree to make a "cocktail" mango tree, but I need to graft varieties with the same growth rate. Thank you.

Ours has been very slow to get started, so it’s hard to say at this point. After a year in the ground it just put out its first flush of leaves. There are a few varieties we’ve had which seem to need a little boost to get growing, and this has been one.

Rodney S I hope so! Our tree set fruit this year. Not sure if it will hold or not. I’ve tasted sugarloaf 2 separate times and it tastes like pineapple to both Craig and me. I know most comments have been that it tastes like coconut. Hope we can try some at different ripenesses
