I upgraded from 64GB on my M1 Max to 128GB on my M4 Max and I dont't regret that at all. I have Premiere projects that uses as much as 85GB ram. It's been a huge upgrade for me at least. That's just my opinion.. And going from 1TB SSD to 8TB has been really nice also! If you work outside, I can recommend people to go for the silver color (and nano texture display), because it's a huge difference on the silver and black color chassi if the computer is in the sun. The black color gets so hot compared to a lighter silver color. And I recommend EVERYONE to put on a screen protector, because the keyboard is giving the screen marks when travelling. That's my tips! If your using Photoshop for big projects like I do, 50-500 layers A3 size , depending on how big the undo/history file is, Photoshop has to write each version to RAM or Scratch disk, a few open 500MB file scan use 20-50GBs of Scratch. More memory is very important, I use 64gb M2 Max, there's another great channel 'Art is right' think its called, where he does tests with different ram and file sizes, and Photoshop flies with more. So I would recommend the most Ram you can afford if doing big Photoshop projects. PS love the channel!

Yes that is right I think that 'Art is right' is one of the best youtube channels for Graphic design / photographer reel life benchmark. He is way more independent for what a real life look like. Right now I have a Mac Studio M1 Ultra (bought if for a good price) with 64 GB of Ram. often when I am working I photoshop it is using arounf 45-55 GB of ram (Just photoshop) for the next Machine I will like to have atleast 96-128 GB of Ram. I also have a Macbook Pro M3 Pro 36 GB of Ram (it is for my full time job) it regular hit the red in memory use and start to swap data. I would say if you are working with Photoshop file there is a bit bigger than normal is 36GB of ram the bare minimum. and the sweet spot for professional graphic designer there is not working with that heavy files Eg 16 GB of ram is not enough if you will stay out of the Red in memory pressure if you are working with Adobe CC

@@worldwolf9909 Yes, but gaming is a good indication of GPU compute performance. Intel has done well in video encode/decode for years now, even on their IGPs and first gen Arc GPUs. Nvidia is still tops for ray tracing (RT) rendering, but the new B580 does well. If you’re doing a lot of RT work, Nvidia is still your best bet. Personally, I don’t game or do anything else that needs anything more than a good IGP, but I do watch GN for their excellent hardware reviews, including GPU reviews. I watch other channels that cover compute capabilities of GPUs and content creator work, although I haven’t seen any testing of the B580 for those tasks yet.

BH photo is known to sell different specs so you can always look there for a possible deal on an upgraded model without buying directly from Apple. About SSDs, I think the useful life of an ssd even with swap use is still many many years beyond what anyone would keep the machine. Doesn’t mean it’s not an issue for a uniquely heavy user, but I think it’s pretty negligible. As an example, I have an old pc (7 years) that used swap all the time on a 512GB nvme ssd and after 7 years the SSD still reports 89% life. This is just an example but I think it shows how insanely durable normal SSDs are and that the TBW rating could easily mean a life of 60+ years at which point who cares.

@ericdraven785719 күн бұрын
I have looked up 128GB memory DDR5 for PCs and they average around $400-$500. I saw one that is ECC up to $970. Now let’s take into account apple’s memory is unified memory. Which for those that do not know, the memory is on the M4 chips. It’s much faster to access than the standard PC memory. PC users will complain about how “expensive” apple products and refuse to actually open their little minds to why. Also, Mac’s aren’t that expensive. With unified memory, many users do not need 128GB. They do not even need 48GB. Most can get away with 16GB which is now standard. I wish PCs were better and windows didn’t get flushed down a toilet but my M1 MacBook is still amazing after now 4 years. Even though I need more performance, bigger storage, more memory and a bigger screen, my M1 MBP is fantastic. I might wait to upgrade next year but it will depend on when I will absolutely need to upgrade.

My desktop is an i9 13900k 64gb ddr5 with 6 tb of storage, and I’d rather have a lesser specced and more expensive MacBook. Doing creative work is *so much easier* with Mac OS. The 90% of stuff you do every day just works better. Think about it like this, the reason you spend money on better equipment is to do work faster. With windows it’s constant maintenance and drivers and updates etc. all of that time wasted is now spent toward actually working on the stuff you want to do. You’re trading all that time wasted for maybe longer render times. Worth it.
