M4A1 SOPMOD Block II Upper Build

nice build. love a SOPMOD. a recommendation- slap a Primary Arms 1-8x ACSS SFP scope on it. its $389 and offers excellent red dot like performance on 1x for CQB, excellent run 'n gun as good as an ACOG on 3.5x and amazing speed and precision for long range shots out to 800 yds and beyond set on 8x. it also allows me to fire awesome sub 3/8" 5-rd groups at 100 yds! it has excellent FOV and very good eye relief. eye box gets a little tight above 6x but is perfectly manageable. its an amazing scope at sub $400! all from 1 optic system that weighs in at as little as 20 oz if you use a lightweight mount. or about 24 oz with an ADM recon qd mount. its a great scope. ive had mine for 2 yrs now and over 6,000 rds aboard my modded FN 16" M4/RECCE carbine with zero issues. ive broken 4 scope caps and 3 mag adjust levers off of it so i obviously dont baby it. the only caveat is some mild "fisheye" at liw mag/close range and a fairly tight eye box above 5-6x. if youve got the cash the premium $1299 Primary Arms platinum 1-8x ACSS FFP offers even better glass and as close to true 1x/0 mag as ive seen, target turrets and better illumination. its image is crystal clear edge to edge and perfectly flat. its only caveat is its price and its 26 oz weight. btw PA is selling the platinum for $899 as they liquidate to make room for the new models. its a STEAL at that price! i have the PA platinum in another ADM recon qd mount aboard my new DD5V1. its AMAZING! both scopes utilize the imcredible ACSS BDC/ranging reticle system which is hands down the best in the industry. a word of caution though. if you go with a 1x whatever scope youll need to replace your A2 front sight with a folding unit for best optical performance. the A2 will be visible on 1x and actually co-witness which wasnt a concern for me. but as you zoom out past 3-4x the A2 is no longer visible but a "milky" blurr will degrade the optical image even on 8x. its not major but it is there. i replaced the A2 on my FN with a PRI G2 gas block/folding front sight from the MK-12 rifle. that solved the problem and gave me reason to redubb my M4 the MK-4/12 in reverence for both the M4 carbine and the MK-12 rifle it is a hybrid of. its an awesome setup and i can guarantee nothing larger than a 1/2-gal milk jug is safe inside 550 yds with my FN/PA ACSS on duty. im sure i can clean the clock of a 1-gal milk jug at 800 yds as well as soon as i find the room to really stretch its legs. anyway, thats my recommendation for an optic.

Wow, excellent info man. I’ve had my eye in the PA 1-8 offerings. I think this rifle is worthy or having decent glass and some actual magnification. For the moment I’m running my Bushnell 1-4 as a placeholder. And I don’t attest to the A2 FSB being “in the way”. Thanks again for the info man. That’s awesome 👍

I don’t mind the slight distortion of close range targets with LPVOs but the slight magnification of the FSB bothers me. I may change my mind on that in the future though. I have a Steiner P4Xi 1-4 which I love

So the alpha TARAC is a folding person either in French or LPO red dye for rent out a magnifier and it’s for a 300 yard come back to your house and you start to get significant drop off its is like a prism and moves You’re redical into like a prism and moved it up like 20 minute of angle 📐 or sowmwthing and increases your mileage accuracy with age red dot or scope by like 56% or something or but it’s definitely something to check out as I am going to get it to see how it works and what not it gives you like a hold chart on the device itself it’s not battery operated it’s the glass which does its Magic

In the block 2 program they were issued 1 lower with a mk18 an m4a1 uppers. So u could have just not pinned an welded flash hider an used lower 4 both

Think I'm gonna go ahead and buy a complete upper from DD. I've got a Colt LE6920 so I'll use the lower from that and drop the full upper on to it. Add a Surfire 600 and a TA31 and I'll have a damn good AR15!

The barrel length really won’t make a difference. As long as it’s got that gas system like I mentioned, it’ll fit. It’ll just stick out an extra 1.5” since the barrel is longer.

Not sure if you had the instructions for the ris2 or not,but Daniel defense states to install the 3 bottom bolts finger tight first. Then the rest. Tighten middle screws first,bottom 2nd, top last. 29-32 in/lbs.

Nice. I’m really wanting to set up an as issued MK12 Mod1 clone w/NF2.5-10x24mm at some point, but have to 18” 5.56 rifles & need 2-3, .308/7.62x51mm(lighter weight 16”& a 20”), so saving up for those a bit of nfa goodness.

If the barrel you have uses a carbine length gas system and has the A2 FSP, then it should fit just fine 👍

the Block II FSP is honestly my favorite. I'm sourcing parts for mine and have sourced almost all of them. I'll be mindful about the gas tube whenever I put mine all together haha. As for optics I'm running a T1 in a Larue mount on mine.

I didn’t have to drill this one. I’ve done it before and it’s not all that hard. If you align everything then use some vice grips to keep anything from moving you should be good to go. There are some videos on it out there, maybe I’ll do one myself.

why cant i get the wobble out of my rail....same exact parts to a tee but my upper has cage code. The rail is nib with all hardware and the the fasteners are all tight.......local gun shop claims i need a washer but i must be 100% clone correct. My build is actually a block I and I was curious as to what type of low profile gas block is correct since i removed post instead of cutting.......my rc is also in jail as i type this june 2021

It might just be a stacking tolerance issue. Have you tried putting the rail on another upper to see if you get the same wobble? I believe these are your options for correct gas blocks: Badger Ordinance Mk12 gas block, Daniel Defense Mk12 Gas Block

I say roll with the 553 of you already got it. If you dont care for it being any more "clone" than it is now Steiner makes a nice 1-4 scope you can get for around $500. Great glass for the price a pin and weld video would be greatly appreciated and DO Not p and w the 4 prong. Unless more hit the streets that baby is too valuable to "ruin" haha

Caleb Downing the only knock is that it's a 4x when everyone is gunning for the 6x/8x. You know as well as me within 300 yards the 4x is money and for a defensive rifles like these clones that is plenty of magnification. For the money the Steiner is a tank and the daylight brightness of the dot is awesome. When turned on the 1x acts as a true "red dot" optic. It's my first variable optic. I bought it with the intention of buying a Vudu or Razor if I liked it, but i have been enjoying it so much I'm in no rush to buy the more expensive options out there, plus Steiner's warranty is as good as it gets. I have it mounted on a bcm 14.5 socom carbine length upper with the A2X fh

All HBAR //SOCOM profile barrel need a h2 . The Colt IAR and 6933 HBAR COMMANDO require a H3.. B5 SOPMOD is used my out troops . I will never buy a LMT Crane stock ever again.. OPTIC . Either ACOG or Aimpoint . A lot of people don't realize that the Colt SOCOM is super accurate. I've heard that the EOD used Tr24 1-4× . So same as acog illumination but a LPVO. The Vortex HD 1-6× are tanks man . Acog with acss is what I'd get. Technically the acss isn't clone correct but an acog is lol.. So all in all optic wise I'd go Aimpoint .

You need a elcan specter DR for it,& I think I found you one. Now, this is going to sound crazy coming from me. Especially, after my comments about airsoft parts. Then again this is advertised as a clone,& states that it is for actual firearms. Anyways, I was looking for a used elcan m145 for my saw-22 on ebay, & came across this. I've seen clones on there before, but for airsoft with red & green dot. They also look cheap,& i would never spend over $100 for a airsoft optic for a real gun. The one I found looks so close to the real deal that I don't know how they got away with it. They have the gen 2,& the gen 3 body style. The gen 2 hasn't got here yet,but is supposed to work just like this one. Yes, I ordered the gen 2 after seeing how good this one is. The 1X to 4X actually works, You can see the glass inside actually rotate to the side,the entire reticle lights up red,& it's even etched M4 100 to 600 m,m249 700 to 1000m on the glass. The color is brown,& is almost the exact same as the ris 2 rail color. It also has all the correct markings. The glass is super clear. I've tried it on 5 Ar's so far with no issues at all. The only difference I can find besides the price ,is it doesn't have the locking tab for the elevation. Has 11 brightness settings , first 2 NV, and the entire tree lights up. The real one has the option of the tree,or just the dot. If your interested I'll find the exact seller,and give it to you. They go for 150 for the brown. I think the black was a little less,but the brown is the way to go. Almost forgot the mounts don't say Arms on them,but they work, and look just like them. The glass is super clear also. It's actually comparable to primary arms having their advanced reddot "aimpoint M68 clone". This is definitely worth the money.

I had them send me different pics too,cause they say the color may look different on screen. It looked the same though. That's kinda what sold me on it. Myself personally I would use your fire three prong which have been used and pin weld that do it and the MK 18 now I’m not a super conehead or anything but I would think it would be better to have the four prong just sit say you wanted to do a different build but a lot of MK 18 rifles are used in conjunction with the knights armament OG and T4 I think by I know for 1000% the United States Marine Corps special operations command and I think they re-adopted it and laughing because the record is cheap as hell and it’s not their fault it’s if you want logistics join the army that’s why you see marine raiders without block 2s oh late in the war but that old suppressor by nights are meant is being re-adopted and not the quick detach version the OG one and 24 I believe and optic set up I’d say go 1500 with a trijicon 4XACOG with a doctor site or a Trijicon RMR top mounted or offset using I would suggest an era soccer now if you do go and LPVO route the night force atacr 128 I believe or if you want to get one from nightforce it’s cheaper The NX8 by them order I’m just doing no tax XPS three-year believe with Magnifier if you want to rock that but are used to use the 3X it’s helpful in certain situations whatever but you got to realize there’s a lot of leeway about different attachments and things like that for example all white light the Marine Corps used the L3 PEQ 16 version that Scott integrated white light shooting about 170 something lumens which is not much so a lot of guys wise by their own shit because if you noticed the Marines in the army you’ll see a big difference in how they build them out but I’ve seen a lot of guys with the night force optic with the RIS2 and an end point T2 but the military is very slow to switch things out oh for example 2008 I qualified with an M-16 A2 iron sights that some fucking Taliban probably has right now because a few years later they realized it be better to teach recruits to shoot with M-16 A4 with before I ask because iron sights at 500 I was like shit am I looking at the right target or is that 26 and I’m 25 but still shot expert I just had my dope all set no wind and I think the rain help somehow but as I said the military USMC is this but particularly slow to adopt that’s why you will still see fuck site posts used in 2022 when it should be straight up low profile gas blocks because of barrel harmonics and if you have a regular M4 shoot some 77 green match ammo off of the barricade with your bow resting on it then do the same thing either resting your what is it 7 inch quad rail use that and you’ll see a significant difference in how your ballistics are your group will be much different than not putting pressure on that barrel by resting it on a barricade The barrel then with the rail you will see that fuck up the barrel harmonics and that’s why general rule of thumb now in there AR platform is I want to inch offset on your rail to your barrel and shoe far flash hider‘s are between 2.5 to 2.8-ish inches depending on if it is a prong diversion or the CTN but you don’t have to be 1000% correct and talking about leeway guys are rock radian charging handles and this really depends on the unit and some units that do things that you will never hear about only the aftermath possibly and leeway with the weapon system obviously uniforms and grooming standard both Iraq and Afghanistan not shitting on army guys but Marines went off and shot at last because of the light dark earth desert utility is or Cammies and even now green ones which depending on time of year uniform of the day people understand what I’m talking about because the green is thicker and the enemy Taliban OK do knows a these guys been whipping our asses but the guys wearing the gray camouflage we’ve been fucking them up so it’s like literally mornings you could probably find video of combat well you’ll see Marsac socom Marines wearing old looking green Cammies and absolutely zero grooming standard compared to against the grain even if you’re getting fucking shot at boy if you are doing an offset red dot I would use the arisaka mount The block two is heavy heavy heavy in country if I had my choice I would have MK 12 or and 110 you saying which is generally used out of precision rifles or short barrel rifles because even in Afghanistan you’ll see the Mk 18 and as the Afghan war ramped up the programs started to be used more in the field Colt and FN are used and it now a lot of contracts went to geissele and doubtful their lowers just yet are going to be used but slow to adopt as I said when every single one should have a bend MK 12 gas block on there right now and the RIS two should be widely fielded sure if you had the money I would’ve done A knights armament SBR lower Which is a lot more Well since you already have the main component(the rifle) then your almost there. For sure you need the Knights Armament rail(RIS/RAS M4), the Colt mil spec stock and pistol grip should be good. The Knights Armament verticals grip one of the “grip pods” would work. The optic I used was the Trigicon ACOG TA31RCO. I did not have a rear iron sight but some folks had the Matech rear sight. If you want what’s issues then you’d need one of hose crappy 3 point conversion slings. There are other correct options out there but that is what I got issued. Depends on how clone you wanna go. I’ve got a CTN Warcomp and it’s sweet. No annoying ping from the prong and a slight comp effect from the ports.

Caleb Downing I kind of regret pinning and welding a 3 prong warcomp on an upper I have cuz I timed it for right hand shooter and later my OCD brain kicked in and was like well, that was stupid cuz surefire should just fucking time it neutral and put the ports between 10-2 and leave the index pin in the bottom like they did with the CTN but now I’m like well, I don’t wanna pay for all that cost just to replace a warcomp so, I’ma put a CTN on everything I plan on pinning and welding
