Really enjoy this channel. Yes, you need the Stage III upgrade. I went with the HD torque cam and 114 to 122 Stage III. I had it done a couple of weeks back when my 2019 warranty expired. If you are looking at the 2020 or waiting on a 2021114 bike, I would recommend that you do the upgrade at purchase to get everything under warranty. Admittedly, I am a torque junkie. There is nothing like the crisp roll on response with this setup. I cannot imagine needing Stage IV, but then again, those guys wonder why stop at III. I would absolutely do this upgrade again.
@GixxerFoo3 жыл бұрын
I love that torque too myself, if you really pay attention to where the power is at on the stage iv you'll find it's all the way up top. The stage III will track right along with the iv through the low and mid. For me by the time the stage iv asserts itself I am already out of the throttle, pesky things like traffic lights, cars pulling out, cops 😄👍. I just went from 107 to 117 with a Zippers kit. also stage 2 heads and a redshift 468 cam. can't wait to get through the break in miles to "give it the beans " :). this is all thanks to a blown head gasket at 38K miles. that's why I didn't go with HD. their pistons rings are not holding back the oil and its getting into the combustion chamber, increasing the compression ratio, and eventually blowing the cheap head gasket.

@@GixxerFoo When it comes to warranty, I get it and I don't. Aftermarket parts can produce more power which can overstress the OEM parts, causing them to fail. But there are also aftermarket parts that improve reliability, yet still void warranty. An S&S or Feuling cam plate and oil pump won't overstress OEM parts for instance. Same for S&S or ARP studs and bolts, lifters, rocker arms, valve springs, compensators, and clutches. In my humble opinion, these really should not affect your warranty. @GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
The 119 and 122 use a less aggressive cam, it's the bolt in stage II cam. I assume it's a marketing thing cause if they put the 498 cam in like they do in 107 to 114 , 114 to 117 kit with the added displacement of the 119 or 122 it would rival their stage 4 kit's power. These big stage 3 kits make some serious torque with the bolt in cam and if they put in the high lift SE cam with springs they'd lose a lot of stage 4 sales with the horsepower they would lay down.

The odds are in your favor. Really going to depend on your exhaust setup and dyno tuning, I would hazard to guess more realistically you'll land in the mid 120's to 130's. But with the displacement increase I wouldn't be surprised if you're closer to 130's.
@FranBunnyFFXII4 жыл бұрын
It's hard to reason for one of these HD kits when aftermarket ones are great and more customizable, and cheaper. The warranty aspect is the one aspect that makes the HD kits reasonable. 114 to 122ci seems like a more reasonable jump than to a 117. That being said, I'm actually really curious to see what would happen if you treated the M8 like a sportster, and ran a bigbore kit with a stock setup. Kinda like how people take an 883 and just swap in the new cylinders. I kind of want to see what happens when you take a fuelmoto 128 kit and put it on stage one but a everything else stock M8 114.
@GixxerFoo4 жыл бұрын
I completely agree, the aftermarket is the way to go. I would only recommend a Screamin Eagle kit if your bike is under warranty and you want to keep said warranty. But if that's not an issue there are aftermarket kits that produce way more power for far less money, arguably better quality too.

Greetings from Norway. Love your videos, very informative and easy to understand. So, I’ve got a M8 122 in my Street Glide. Im very happy with it. My question is as following. In your personal opinion , what is the best cam option according to both hp and torque in a 122 and still usable as an touring bike?
@GixxerFoo9 ай бұрын
I could give you a list of cams but it's so hard to beat a Wood WM8 22XE. That cam is reliable and it lays down insane power all across the board and gives up nothing anywhere. It outperforms every cam available from the low end to the top end. With your engine kit you have it will be a solid 120+ horsepower and torque.
@FCRCvideo3 жыл бұрын
I have a 2020 Street Glide Special and already have the stage two with the HD torque cam that comes in the kit. I can just purchase the pistons and cylinders correct? Then it would essentially be the same thing. I already have a catless headpipe 4.5" slip ons and a high flow air cleaner. I have a Fuelpak 3 and Vance and Hines told me they have maps for the tune. Sounds pretty simple from where I am at now.

There are some monster big bore kits out there for the M8 from some solid companies like FuelMoto. They're getting some insane numbers and doing it reliably. O would only recommend Screamin Eagle if you're keeping a warranty or meeting emissions.

a About $1600 dollars? What he's not telling you is that in order to get this stage 3 kit, you must first purchase the stage 1 and stage 2 kits first. All total about $5400.00 not including labor for each stage.
@GixxerFoo3 жыл бұрын
You would need the pipes and air cleaner first to get the most out of the stage 3 kit. But you wouldn't want to purchase a stage 2 as it is just a cam and the stage 3 comes with a cam. You'd be buying parts twice and getting into the engine twice.

Is there an in warranty way to put a 114 crank into a 107 to get that extra power. I love the balance M8 engine, but ever since they released the 120S twin cam I’ve aspired to get an equivalent in an M8 with corresponding torque and 110 plus hp. Suggestions? I wish the Electra glide standard had a 114 option.
@GixxerFoo3 жыл бұрын
The stage 3 107 to 114 kit from Harley is really an awesome setup for the 107. It still has the shorter stroke crank but you add the larger bore cylinders and a good set of cams. That setup produces just as much power as the stage 4 114 kit in the low and mid range. As far as warranty they don't have a crank swap option with any of the stage kits.

have you ever looked at custom frames ? as far as do they come with a "vin #" so you can register them , insurance and so forth. from what i have found one maker in canada does i think and Paughco does too i think. mainly for someone wanting to replace a frame from a salvaged bike or to give it a custom touch and still get tags and insurance for it without a too difficult time. i haven't found much in my research . wondered if you have or can find out more info. good vid
@t.s.racing4 жыл бұрын
Justin, I can tell you from a builders standpoint, that each state is different. There's so many variables here that you alone need to do extensive research for your particular build. A example is that even if you buy a XYZ brand frame and it comes with a 17 digit " number " , XYZ is NOT a Motor Vehicle Manufacturer, so you can't register a 2020 XYZ. Generally you get a M.S O. with a frame. That means, manufacturers statement of origin. It is NOT a title. 20 years ago things were easier, I stopped manufacturing my custom bikes when they needed to be certified by the E.P.A., and even then that certification was only good in 49 states, meaning NO California. A lot of states have a A.P.S.T. title, which is a builders title, or Special Construction title. Yes, you can insure them most of the time, but they come with the stigma of home-made construction when you try and re-sell one day. Meaning, pennies on the dollar. You can take my advice for what it's worth, but I tell you that I've been there, done that. Always check with YOUR country, and YOUR state as far as regulations. There's no cookie cutter answer to your question. Bottom line is the D.M.V. online, is the place to start. PRINT the information, because in person, talk to 4 D.M.V. workers and you'll get 4 different answers. I don't lie, nor will I sugarcoat anything, and I don't care if I hurt someone's feelings, I tell the TRUTH. Do YOUR homework, because the D.M.V. won't care if you tie up 5,10,15 thousand dollars and you can't get a title. Some states are near impossible. My state, requires a M.S.O. from the frame, engine, and trans, and proof of payment for the majority of the MAJOR components. Then you finish the bike, get a weight certificate, pay the sales tax, and you get a Home built/Constructors title. Good luck. SARGE.

The M8 responds very well to cam shafts, and the SE cams aren't bad cams at all. They produce some big gains on the M8, but the SE cams are mild cams in comparison to the aftermarket. To be honest, a good aftermarket cam, exhaust and tune would run circles around a Screamin Eagle stage kit. If you're going with a Screamin Eagle cam the torque cam doesn't give up anything to power cam until the very top end, even there the loss is 1 or 2 horsepower.

The entire crate motor stage four thing as labeled by Harley is a misnomer anyway. They keep calling it a 131 stage 4 but it's still 131 cubic inches and the heads are exactly as they came from the crate motor. So stage three and four never happened. It's a 131 with a camshaft and a tune. Lastly as we've seen all inmates stage kits should come with a new clutch because everyone who installs one has the clutch slip on the dyno on the first outing. S&s who I love can go through all the stages end up with a stage 4 and never change the factory head pipe... Putting another header on is not in any of the stages when you're talking about a touring bike that has separate slip-ons and a separate header. They have a KZbin video up showing the difference between all the stages and the end result still has a factory head pipe.
@GixxerFoo3 жыл бұрын
Harley's stage kits are really quite confusing and a lot of parts you normally wouldn't need. They are emissions compliant as well so that's where a lot of the extras come in. If emissions isn't a concern just a good aftermarket cam and nothing else will put you right up there with the stage kits.
