You want to buy the young man a 100% reliable .22lr, buy him a Walther P22, I've had one for years, literally, around 12 years. I only know that is very close to exact because my daughter turned 9yrs old back in February, and I purchased my P22 a couple of years prior to having her. Runs all types of LR ammo, typical Remington thunder bulk, to the super hot CCI stuff, doesn't matter. It even was 100% reliable after going close to 2 years without cleaning! I let it go this long just to see how good Walther's .22 truly is, and I was impressed, still am actually! I believe it's reliability is a result of the simple design. The fixed barrel, combined with a bare minimum slide, by if a "slide" is even what we should call it. It's pretty much a reciprocating extractor housing that's only real contact surfaces are with the frame rails. The fact that it's designed to run with or with out a suppressor from the factory another indicator to me that the gas pressure is more than enough to run it reliably regardless ammo choice. Edit: I wanted to add that a buddy of mine recently put an after market .22Lr conversion kit with a ramped barrel in his Glock 19 and it has been more reliable than any other semi auto .22Lr pistol I've shot. Actually thinking about getting one for mine. I know the factory G44 barrel is also probably ramped but the Advantage conversion barrel he has is a long ramp that reaches all the way down to the nose of the bullet when sitting in the magazine.

Looks good. I've seen putty used instead of tape, but tape looks easier to transfer patterns. Do you think paintbrushing bleach and dye would work well on a plate carrier? I was thinking urban camo or a black and white flecktarn would look good on a plate carrier.
@WyattDerpTheNotSoEarp
@WyattDerpTheNotSoEarp Жыл бұрын
I've never seen or heard of putty before, that's an interesting one. As for the plate carrier I think it would probably work, no idea how the bleach would react with things, I guess that would depend alot on the color and quality of material

I've done clear coats and I've done non clear coats and unless its a really high quality clear coat like whats used on cars its not worth the effort. How long does this hold up with normal use?
@RealTheJow
@RealTheJow 2 ай бұрын
Well i see no one answered your question, the use being like possible bump on things, falling and scratching and rubbing in a holster if pistol or your body if a rifle in a sling it would little by little come off if you spray paint. I found out no matter how many coats, spray paint comes off easy. So you could either paint it with a very fine roll paint or brush the paint being very thick. And would be strong thick paint layer, if you do in a tan color gun ceracoated or polymer colored fde is better because the paint coming off would not reveal much, would still blend in. The only way to be durable would really be a cerakote camo job or those with water based laminated and heat treated but that is too much of work and $$$

Guys trust me when I say this. I have never gotten spray paint to get hard or not come off with fingernails scrapes in my life. I finally figured it out: Scrub the shit out of your gun parts with hot ass dish soap water. Put them in the oven at 230f. Take them out and spray down with carb cleaner. Paint a light coat. Hit the shit out of it with a heat gun full blast but do not burn the paint. Put your second and final coat on making sure to get all the hard angles first. Put the parts back in the oven at 230f for 4 hours. Lower the temperature to 200 for polymer and check on it frequently to make sure the polymer isn't warping. Your spray painted parts will come out completely cured and should not smell like spray paint at all, even with nose touching. After doing this I finally have spray painted parts that are as durable as they can be. There's nothing I hate more than uncured spray-painted stuff. Cannot stand it. The the coats below the final coat never actually flash off and remain soft and stinky forever

My first gun ever was a Hi-Point 45. They get a lot of shit, but it was actually a pretty decent sidearm. It shot straight and never jammed up for me. Anyway, I no longer use it but still have it. I'm looking into painting it,because let's be honest, it's a pretty boring gun.
