Vande Mataram (transl. Mother, I bow to thee) is a Bengali poem written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1870s, which he included in his 1882 novel Anandamath. The first two verses of the song were adopted as the National Song of India in October 1937 by the Congress Working Committee prior to the end of colonial rule in August 1947. In 1950 (after India's independence), the first two verses of the song were declared the "national song" of the Republic of India, distinct from the national anthem of India, Jana Gana Mana. A hindi modernized rendition of the song was released by Rahman in 1997 on he occasion of 50th year of independence.

Nobody seems to have answered about the history of the flag instelf. So, here it goes. A variation of the flag (with a wooden charkha instead of a wheel) was the congress party flag during the indian independence movement, so the colors derive from that flag. Saffron indicates - strength and courage, white indicates - peace and truth and green indicates - fertility and growth. The wheel in the centre is the dharma chakra (wheel of law) which was a symbol used by one of the greatest emperors who united ancient India - Ashoka - from 3rd century BCE (you could say he was india's alexander the great). The Dharma Chakra is also seen on the indian emblem which was also derived from ashoka empire.

In India too the tricolor flag should be respected in every aspects. The way it's hoisted, the way it's folded everything should be carried out with utmost care and respect. Citizens have to respect the flag. During independence day and republic day the tricolor is hoisted in all schools, government/private offices. The flag has to be taken down before the sun sets as per law. The flag cannot be put below waist level. I have seen people wearing underwears/boxers/trunks with US flag design on it. In India doing this with the tricolor can land you in jail for sedition or disrespecting national symbols/flags charges. No Indian states have their individual state flags except the state (ex) of Jammu and Kashmir. But now J&K too can't have a separate flag after the abrogation of Article 370 on 5th August 2019.

Vandemataram ...is actually a Sanskrit word .. "Vande " means "vandana" in hindi i.e worship in English....and Mataram means motherland... The whole song "Vandemataram" is written by a famous bengali laureate Mr. Bankim Chandra Chattopadhaya during British Colonial India.. The term Vandemataram become a legendary patriotic slogan during Indian National Movement... So this song means a lot to us... Though A.R Rahaman make this song in his own version...the actual song is more different from this one... This one is my favourite...
