Hi! I love jujube tea! I add more spices to mine (cardamom, fennel, star anise, black peppercorns as well as cinnamon stick and ginger root) so it's like Indian masala chai. I found if you cut up smaller and soak the dates several hours or overnight first, you only have to simmer for about 20 minutes and the pulp will strain easily out of the jujubes!

For all the Indian people watching, jujubes are called ber/bor, the fruit we keep on shivling during shivratri. Those are green, these are a little dried, these are generally used for snacking as well as making ayurvedic medicines like joshanda for cold and cough.

Trinidadian culture has Ginger Tea. We’d grate the ginger and simmer in water for a short time. Typically ginger tea is sweetened with honey or condensed milk before consuming hot. We use it to overcome colds/flus and sore throats.

I have covid but only bad headache with a fever sometimes. I have been using Echinacea in my hot tea. I already did D3. I saw months ago where 2 Dr's were giving it to people to help recover from covid. So I increased mine. I have been wondering about Ginger but not sure how to use it. You let me know I can use that too! Do I use it my it's self or can I use it with Echinacea? Thanks I'm new to this young lady I really like what she shares.
@racegod69
@racegod69 2 жыл бұрын
@@patriciapresley525 you can mix the echinacea in with your ginger tea but I’d look at echinacea tea recipes to figure out when is the right time to add it into the tea. Ginger tea, lemon tea and cinnamon tea are all anti inflammatory. Echinacea is supposed to be an immune system stimulant. Not sure how echinacea helps with covid symptoms but I’m sure teas on the whole will provide relief for the congestion and cough.

The combination of cinnamon and ginger reminds me of this Korean dessert-type beverage called sujeonggwa. It's water brewed with cinnamon sticks and ginger, sweetened with a little bit of sugar, and chilled. Sometimes we float shredded dried jujube, pine nuts or soaked dried persimmons for presentation. We do not add peppercorns or holy basil (both are foreign spices to us) but I always brew it in winter and drink it while it's still warm!

Hello Maangchi! I'm quite familiar with jujubes as well. In the eastern regions of India (where I hail from) we make a sweet sticky pudding with jujubes (or Kul, as it is called in bangla, the language spoken in one of the states in the eastern part of India). It is considered quite a delicacy and an traditional dish that is made during festivals, or important occasions. Good to know that the the ingredient (fruit, in this case) is used for similar reasons but cooked in such variety!

In Sweden, we make a similar thing with rosehips, the fruits from wild rose bushes! It's more work because they need to be de-seeded and then boiled and puréed and sweetened with sugar, since they are not sweet in themselves but pretty sour. This drink is thickened with starch to be more like a soup. But it has a lovely flavour and is full of vitamin C. Luckily all supermarkets here sell ready made rosehip soup or instant rosehip soup powder. You can bring it in a thermos for winter outings, or serve as a filler between meals or as a simple dessert with ice cream, or even drink it cold if you wish. It's very good for when you're sick with a cold or the flu since it's sweet and will give you some energy and vitamins, while being easy to drink. I think I have seen dried jujubes in our local Asian market. I will have to try making this!

Wow looks delicious. I picked up a bag of dried jujube couple of months ago from the Asian store near me and didn't know what to use it for. Then I looked up in the internet and someone had a tea recipe that I could make it in instant pot. I did it and it wasn't that great. So I didn't make it again and kept the bag of jujube in my cabinet. Growing up in India as a kid I used to eat fresh jujubes from the farmers market in the summer time. Indians don't use these in cooking and not that I know of. So when I saw a huge pile of these jujube bags in the Asian store I just bought one :) I am so happy to see this recipe from you and I am so making it . It is so cold here in Chicago and any hot tea that tastes good will be welcome. Thank you Maangchi. I am a fan and subscriber and learnt many Korean recipes and tried them from your videos. 🙏🏾🙏🏾

In Indonesia we have similar thing to 대추생강차, we call it "wedang ronde". It's also ginger based tea, and we also add lemon grass. For the tea fillings we put "ronde" (ronde is flour based chewy cake similar to 송편 in Korea, but with various kinds of fillings such red bean paste, sweet potate or anything else), we also put toasted/fried peanut beside the "ronde".

Also had this Ginger Tea in Insadong at Ssamziegil one very cold February morning in 2014, it was -12 degrees. Was visiting my Son from Scotland and he took me to a small stand on the ground floor of a nice market with many floors. Had never had Ginger Tea before and had nothing like it since. It was utterly delicious, sweet with some heat from the ginger and it filled me with joy and happiness. Warm tea and warm memories of a Father and Son spending special times together. Thank you Maanchi 🫖

I've had a container of dried jujube fruit for awhile and I have fresh ginger plus dried cinnamon sticks so I am definitely going to make this tea. I don't have pine nuts though so that will be missing from my tea. Thank you for recipe!
