I just happened to have a quarter cabbage leftover from another recipe, my last 2 green onions, and my last egg. Im going to make this sandwich for my lunch today and work on my grocery list while I eat it!😬☺️ Note: I just finished my lunch. That's one of the most fun and most delicious sandwiches I've eaten in a long time. I was worried about adding sugar to it, so I left it out, but then tried sprinkling some on it as I ate and I have to say sugar or a sugar substitute makes a huge difference. It magnified the flavor. Next time I will include the sweetener before I wrap it in foil. So awesome!

Every time I see cabbage in the store I'm thinking it's impossible for me to go through a whole cabbage alone before it goes bad. But you have so many delicious recipes that use cabbage! Now I know what I will buy on my next essential trip to the grocery store! I feel so lucky to live near a Korean grocery store. I live near Seattle and unfortunately Asian businesses have been hit even harder by this pandemic, so I do my best to do all my shopping at Asian markets and bakeries, especially the small family owned businesses. Another idea i do for my family is fried cabbage. Not a recipe if you are watching your waist tho! haha Fry a couple strips of bacon. Take out bacon crumble it and set aside. Leave a couple tbl spoons of grease. Rough cut your cabbage and size you prefer. I do square cuts. Fry the cabbage in the grease for about 10-15 minutes or until tender. Add the bacon and salt and pepper to taste. Goes great with pork. My kids even love it! Its slightly sweet with the bacon is amazing!

I made this a couple days ago but it was so good by itself that I couldn’t add the sugar or ketchup etc. I didn’t even put it on bread. I added some sriracha and just ate it off the plate. Giving the ingredients a beat down before adding the egg is the move. Forces all those flavors to marry. So good. I used a quarter of a head of cabbage and ended up making four of these. Delicious, inexpensive eating.

UPDATE! The sugar ketchup mustard combination is 100% where it’s at! The sugar basically grabs all the great flavors and just body slams them into your tastebuds. It’s gonna be hard to eat this any other way from now on. I’ve bought cabbage twice in my life and both times happened in the last three weeks. I love this recipe a whole lot! A tip for my fellow Aussies though - in Australia most households have tomato sauce as opposed to ketchup - tomato sauce is a lot sweeter than ketchup, so you can usually skip the sugar or reduce the amount you use as our sauce is much sweeter by default.

My Aussie hubby said the opposite. Tomato sauce has more tomato content compared to ketchup which means it’s less sweet than ketchup.

I've got half a cabbage in the fridge and I had no idea what to do with it, this is perfect! I'm a bit doubtful about the sugar but I'll trust the chef and give it a go 😂 EDIT: I made it today, and OH MY GOD. I didn't have any mustard so I used honey mustard sauce, I trusted Maangchi and added the sugar, and it was the most delicious sandwich I've had in a long time. If you're wavering, just go do it. This has immediately become a favourite that I'll be making more in future!

I made this sandwich for breakfast on a toasted Roll-ppang bun (from your recipe) , and I added finely sliced ham, garlic and sesame seeds to the mixture. It was delicious ! Thank you Maangchi for another great recipe. I love watching your videos , you're so sweet and lovely .

oh my god, Maangchi! i have been wanting to try this recipe and i finally bought some bread today. at first i was skeptical of putting sugar in it so i put less, BUT AS I EAT I CRAVE TO TASTE THE CRUNCHY SUGAR OHMYGOD IT IS SO GOOD SWEET AND SALTY, THICK AND JUICY I WILL MAKE IT AGAIN TOMORROW BUT WITH MOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SUGAR p/s: my boyfriend who doesnt really like vegetable ate it and said it was very very good although mine only had cabbage and onion inside (what was available in the refrigerator) hahaha thank you MAANGCHI I LOVE YOUUUUUU (from Malaysia)

My mom goes crazy when it comes to cabbage. Sometimes, I worry that I've had too much of it when she cooks a meal with it. You just can't waste food these days! Seeing this will give us more variations if in case we have left-over cabbage from a previous meal. Trust me, I'll convince her to try this sometime! Thank you so much for this, Maangchi! I saw a video once of this being made on Korean sidewalk stall, and I always wondered how to do it at home. Since we are locked inside, we will be so happy to try it...I will get the ingredients when we get our next groceries (only allowed once per week). I made a slight variation of this by mixing gochugaru, garlic powder, brown sugar, and serrano pepper slices in with the cabbage and egg mixture. I took out the ketchup and sugar and added a layer of smoked white cheddar. It was delicious, will definitely make this again. Thanks for the inspiration Maangchi!! Hope you're doing well
