NE probably has the best group of WRs 1-4 or 1-5 in the conference and they have the best TE duo, at least on paper. Best RBs. Very good OL. Probably a top 5 OL. NO one has any idea where the ball is going and that's whole the point of the Pats offense. Brady LOST 2 SBs where EVERYONE KNEW where the ball was going. Get it? Then when BB fixed Brady by drafting JimmyG and scaring him for his job, Brady went back to spreading the ball around and not using as much shotgun. Each WR has a totally different skill set than the other. BB is so far ahead of you people, you mock it, because you don't get it. Of course mac struggled against man coverage, he had a pretty mediocre recieving core that was getting locked up, idk how this means mac is bad
@Kune352 жыл бұрын
The problem is he doesn't have the arm strength to get the ball through tighter windows. Unlike Allen or Mahomes, he NEEDS his receivers to be fully open. He also has to put more air under his deep throws (and thus more hangtime), which gives the deep safety more time to get there as Hyde showed against him in the playoffs on that highlight reel INT. In the same game, Allen executed basically the same play for a TD, but threw the ball 10 yards further with the ball getting there 0.2 seconds faster. The only people who downplay the importance of arm strength are fans of teams with weak armed QBs like Jones.
@JohnDoe-rr1fz2 жыл бұрын
@@Kune35 of course a weaker arm is a negative, but its not the deal breaker people make it out to be. The hyde interception you used as an example is poor, that pass would’ve been a TD and the throw was perfectly fine, the problem was mac stared down his Agholor, allowing hyde to read his eyes and get over to make a play. With time mac will gain experience and plays like that will be TDs, whether or not his arm strength improves, which it most likely will as mac has looked great in practice, slimmed down, pit on muscle, and met with QB coach Tom House
@Tom-vt1eu2 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-rr1fz Yeah, Mac does not have very good/elite arm strength but it’s still adequate at the NFL level. Some solutions to improve against man coverage would be for Mac to work with a throwing coach to marginally improve his arm strength. His receivers can't get open vs man, nothing McCorkle can do, they're not tight window throws, there was no window. Everybody outside of agholor last year runs 4.6+, you can separate on short routes because Bourne has very good short area quickness, but you can separate deep since nobody else has another great, which means on third and long you're fucked. Having Parker on the outside who can win 50-50 balls will let McCorkle challenge deep, lets agholor run free and take the deeper routes on the right side, because he's not a physical, aggressive receiver who can play the against a cb1, this opens up the short and intermediate throws to everybody from Bourne to Henry to Meyers and even jonnu who can win against linebackers, the key is Parker staying healthy. That pick McCorkle threw would have been a td if Parker was the target because 1) Parker would've gotten up and caught it and 2) the safety would need to respect agholor's speed on the other side, buying McCorkle more room on the throw. Not having a wr who can routinely win one on one in man situation is a different thing from McCorkle not having elite arm strength.
@t4d0W2 жыл бұрын
This. I would wager its less about McCorkles' physical limitations than not having big game breaking quality threats for weapons around him. You need confidence to throw against man coverage, and as much as I love the Pats receivers like Meyers and Bourne, they didn't have a guy last year that could really win those tight man coverage openings. I find your use of the playoff interception incredibly misleading when you said "things he struggles with". That ball was perfect. 99 times out of 100 thats a touchdown. It was an amazing play by the defender to intercept it. If anything its a Mac Jones highlight.

So, just a couple of things. Mac Jones will be better this year due some personal measures he took. Like working with a QB coach in the off season, and geting his diet under control. I expect Mac to be better. Now, we both know Beli is a genius but, is he today? Patricia line coach and Judge Mac Jones' what? Who calling plays? I heard te Beli did this once before in the 80's and it worked for him and the team was a success, so I am reserving judgement. I about freaked out when I heard his plan, but have since calmed down quite a bit. Nobody is expecting the Patriots to be high level competitive in Mac's second year, we'll see how this program works. Very good video analysis of a lad's rookie year. I thought he did really good, under the circumstances. I am hoping the team is better this year. We'll see. It will be very interesing. Good job.

The tight ends did pretty well, but the wide receivers were definitely doing Mac no favors
@kenhamaker2 жыл бұрын
I agree and whoever does not step up this year will get cut, we need receivers that can reasonably seperate in man and run tight accurate routes so they are where the ball is going because its already in the air, Mac doesn't have a remote control when a receiver runs a lazy route or completely the wrong route, let alone when they get it right in their hands and drop it anyways. It looks like all of our competitors have a guy or multiple guys and Patriots are screwing around to get a bargain receiver. If they don't get the team right, I would expect Mac to want to be traded when his contract is up. It's really not fair to give him a shitty team and expect him to make miracles. If he had the Dolphins roster he would be balling. I am not condemning the Pats but I am beginning yo question is Bill and the owner really looking to win, when every other AFC team has better receivers its hard. Even Parker we got because he was the least talented of their stacked team.

@@AlexRollinsNFL I get the worry. I am also not saying that all players improve. Work habits and work ethic have a LOT to do with that. It's when the defense puts a defender on each receiver, as opposed to zone where each defender guards a space on the field
@patriotspicksix.12512 жыл бұрын
Hopefully by adding Thornton, defenses should respect that 4.28 speed by playing more zone when he’s on the field unless they double him. Additionally, Davante Parker should help out a little with the man coverage issues because he can consistently deliver on those contested grabs when he’s healthy. But the loss of McDaniels and Mason are definitely going to sting. This team has an easy-ish schedule next season but their ceiling is no higher than 11-6.

So I decided to rewatch this and give it another chance, and it's so glaring that on almost every completion a defender is draped on Mac's receiver, and yet these are completions. That speaks to two things: one, Mac's ball placement in tight coverage, and two, the lack of quality receivers. I am more convinced on second watch that the issue that you think Mac has will be alleviated the better his targets are, and would be an "issue" for any QB throwing at this group of receivers.

The receiving core isn’t that much better than last year and you would expect TEs like Henry and Smith to be beasts against man, but that doesn’t seem to have happened. If a receiver can't get separation against a CB or Safety, then it's always going to be a contested throw. Depending on where the QB puts the throw, it *might* still favour the WR, but that's not a gimme. So call it 60/40 in favour of the receiver to 50/50, when the receiver gets less than a yard of separation Previous Patriots receivers excelled at getting separation (Edelman in particular was great at this, as was Moss the brief time he was there. Amendola and Welker during their time as Patriots were also good at getting separation). The current crop are not that great (although I can't currently find the separation stats to back that up). It was one of the weakest groups of WRs in the league, and probably the weakest the Patriots have had since Bellichick became head coach Plus, the kid was a rookie. It's kinda like judging the entirety of Josh Allen's career on his rookie season, and coming up with the conclusion that he's inaccurate and always will be. See where he is in another year or two That's my 2c
