'Even God will someday be forgotten' is the first line that made me realizes how original and amazing overall as a lyricist Mac is wish he didn't leave so young I'd love to here Macs perception of getting old. If you really think about it Macs albums are just a progression from being a kid to being a depressed adult and how different life really is when you grow up. Kids was Mac as a kid blue slide park he's getting a bit wiser. Macadelic he feels like he's on top and getting hit with the first hint of depression(Thoughts on a balcony etc etc..) Watching movies is him getting deep into drugs and thoughts..Then you go to Good Am and he's still trying to be happy but keeps slipping into depression and is fully addicted to his vices. Faces he's almost hit rock bottom or has. Devine feminine is him giving a normal life a real shot. Swimming is him realizing he's worried to much and needs to let go of his past and try his best to move on and focus on getting better. Circles is him coming to grips with the fact his in to deep and can't change and he's come to the reality he really is gonna die soon

Same here, 40 as well. I didn't really open my catalogue to him until youtube played his tiny desk concert to me about 18 months ago. Been hooked since. Really love the KIDS mixtape, as I have vivid memories of first watching that movie as a teenager with my homies. Amazing talent, stolen from this world so young...😔

40 here too and I wish I would have listened to Mac more when he was alive. I just wasn't into hip-hop for a while and didn't pay him much attention. After he died I heard Self Care and loved it so I started checking out his other stuff. I pretty love everything he made. Faces, Macadelic, WMWTSO, Swimming and Circles are all amazing and I can relate to so much of his lyrics about addiction/depression. I'm still glad I discovered his music though and keep finding more and more unreleased gems that are just as good as anything he put out in his albums/mixtapes.

"The hallucinations have stopped, finally, thank God, but uh, my adrenaline reserves are burning out and I’m staring straight into the face of a total psychotic freakout." ❤ you mac. When I was at my lowest your words kept me going. When no one could understand what I was going through, your lyrics made me understand that wasn't alone in my experience. When you got sober, around when you dropped Devine Feminie, I thought to myself "If Mac can get get sober, I can get sober". I remember reading an interview you did where you said you had just hit 90 days sober and it was a big deal to you. After I read that, I went and downloaded that app, I hit 90 days too. I remember hearing Swimming for the first time and how hyped I was to go see you play this incredible album live. I remember my brother calling me Sept. 7th, the day after my birthday, and telling me that you passed away. You never knew me, it feels weird the way I feel still to this day when I think about your passing. It feels like I lost a close friend. I found your music when my girlfriend showed it to me back in 2014. We bumped the hell out of all your mixtapes on datpiff, her favorite was your mixtape "Unreleased". She'd always play the song "I think I'm in love". She's now my wife and we both have never stopped bumping your music. There's so much more I could say. I hope there's a heaven so I can meet you one day. Maybe you can give me the scoop on what it's like.

That first line hits differently. The refrain of Pittsburgh’s children who had to leave for greener pastures…and Mac died at the height of the opioid epidemic in PA- that hurt. No matter how far you go, how big you are, how many people love you, that inclination in your blood can kill you. That coping that we all learned from our parents, grandparents, great grandparents, who had to literally put their shoulders to the wheel and had to cope somehow. Pgh has the most bars per person per capita in the world….we been coping. “If by chance, its my grand finale, bury me in Allegheny County” - bro it just makes me cry every time. We’ll love you forever in Allegheny Co, Mac. Forever. Your memory is a blessing to us. Thank you. And I’m sorry. edit: and I’m crying even harder, because those could be nothing but Zambelli fireworks at the end. God bless PGH. We are lonely for our poets.
