it’s the people he came up across. spending time and rapping with earl sweatshirt, ab soul, kendrick, etc made him go up a notch with his lyricism. hanging with thundercat influenced his production. being with artsits like ty dolla sign helped him with the singing. i have been following Mac since 2010 and the way he wanted to grow as an artist and as a person just inspired me, still does

Mac Miller has had one of the greatest growths I've ever seen in rap. From where he was in 2010 with Kids, and then the style he developed in his latter albums is so impressive

@Dion B It was incredible to witness. He was a legit musical genius. He taught himself to play 4 or 5 different instruments by the age of 8. He was constantly trying to progress which can be tough when you have had enormous success in one genre but he was fearless. It’s scary to follow your heart and not the money. By the end of his career I don’t think there is a single genre of music you could box him into. He was so original and honest in his work. I didn’t really become a fan until Watching Movies but he changed so much from that album in 2013 until his passing it was incredible. It’s so nice to see how many people appreciate his music as much as I do.

everyone talks about how mac went from a kid who rapped about partying with his friends to someone who rapped about deeper stuff and brought other genres into rap, but no one talks about why. he obviously struggled with his mental health and his depression was one of the things that fueled his creativity. it was amazing to see but also sad

The why is that he put so much work into the Best Day Ever Mixtape and Blue Slide Park which his fans loved, but the critics roasted the absolute fuck out of it and didn’t respect at all. They said he was “just another frat rapper” because he was a kid having fun making music with his friends. He started doing a lot harder drugs after that and started dropping things like Watching Movies and faces

I found Mac Miller when I was at my lowest, about 2 years ago... The problems he had were different, but relatable. Listening to his albums helped me grieve and wake up from a depression brought about by my mother's death. I still listen to his music every day. His music is powerful and the posthumous release of his most recent album was truly a special gift. I highly recommend listening to an artist that's featured on that album, Baro Sura.

Thanks for doing another Mac Miller song. He died when he was 26. I get angry when I think about the talent that is gone now. He has so many unreleased songs, so there will be more coming out. Last year the CD 'Circles' came out and it is even more artistic. Not as hard, but more dark than anything else. It's a vibe, for sure. I love it. One of my other faves is 'Cinderella'. He did a colab with Anderson paak too.

Mac had a HUGE buzz when he first came out but even though he became a better and better artist as time passed it's like he became more and more underrated/listened to. It's been great to see how much people love this man's music even if they only went back to it after he passed.

First time I ever even heard about Mac Miller, he was a teenager with his own show on MTV doing all kinds of crazy shit. It was a great show because I would do that same crazy shit if I had the money to do so 😆 I’m like 20 years older then him but I’d still watch his show. At the time I looked up his music just to see if I would be interested and I didn’t like it back then. After he died I stumbled across the video Jet Fuel and really liked it because it was his own style, like kind of hip hop but almost a different genre all together. Like nobody sounded like this but him and had a very artistic vibe to it. It’s interesting when great artists are at their darkest moments, they produce their greatest music and shortly after, pass away…

You're right that his style completely changed. I honestly did not like "KIDS" mixtape, but it has some good songs on it. Macadelic is where you see his style sort of start to form and it progresses from there. You're wrong with Jet Fuel and this song being on the same album. Jet Fuel is on Swimming - This is on GO:OD AM. Either way, both are great albums.

Check out his "Hand Me Downs" video. It shows clips of him in the studio doing literally EVERYTHING! Playing drums, guitar, keyboard, xylophone, even producing beats. He did pretty much everything himself his entire career. He produced some of his very first music videos all by himself, right in his own neighborhood... at the park, in front of his school, at a local restaurant (Frick Park Market), in the middle of the street... The man was brilliant!

Watching Movies with the Sound Off is when he really started taking off and completely changed his style. " I wish I , could get high, as space migration" - Lyric in FACES (his space migration tour he came back from and had to go detox at Rick Rubins house) which he also talks about in FACES. Since that tour he's been chasing the high and spiraliing out of control from drug use. He wasn't suppose to survive the making of FACES ( his own words) . By far the most creative project he's ever made and at 22 but it took more of mental toll on him than anything. The concept of SWIMMING and CIRCLES started on this album and FACES. The concept of swimming keeping his head above water and always ending up at the same spot struggling with drugs no matter how many times he got clean. CIRCLES

the change in his sound was a mix of a lot of stuff but partially because his debut album didnt get received very well and critics wrote him off as another frat rapper, and also he moved to LA soon after and started experimenting with drugs more. Blue Slide Park, Macadelic, and Watching Movies With The Sound Off are all very different projects and they all came out in a 2 year span 2011-2013.

I seen Mac live in 2016 I was 26 he was 24. I was clearly the oldest person there. It wasnt sold out and I was shocked whole time I was like how are people my age not feeling this. He killed it. It was clear to me he would be a legend.

He was really strung out on coke and downers while making Faces. That's really where the dark sound and content started coming from. Faces is a cry for help from start to finish, but it's my favorite mac project. He is hands down my favorite artist to listen to consistently.

Coming from a small town out side of Pittsburgh everyone over looked Mac bc of wiz Khalifa but I’ve have always been drawn to mac music from highlife to circles I feel like I grew up with him when he started making deep music is around the same time I started to try to figure out who I am and I’ll forever be grateful for this mans music, I urge anyone that has only dabble in this body of work please bless your self with his music

Stevie just a heads up, this song is from his album GO:OD AM from 2015. The song Jet Fuel is from his album Swimming that came out in 2018 the year he passed away. Mac Miller is a good artist to do complete from start to finish album reviews. I got a song recommendation that's not from either of these two albums. Mac Miller ft. Lil Wayne- The Question. It's off his Macadelic mixtape

Feel like I owe you for this one pal. Mac's 'Swimming in Circles' album was the soundtrack to one of the most important times in my life and he's one of the only celebrities where I felt like I really grieved when they died, like I'd lost a personal friend or something. I caught some new shit with this listen that made this track take on a whole new meaning for me and that's awesome. Genuinely grateful. Also high as shit.
