Exactly the same as my findings, the Radeon VIIs were louder and hotter. Two Radeon 5700xts were like one RVII in my machine. It’s such a sleeper! Good on you for making the video :)

remember to tweak the central fan speed otherwise the hot air will stay inside the enclosure. Graphic cards with axial fans are designed for enclosures with fans extracting air from the case. I'm using two RTX2080Tis (blower version) on bootcamp and I can check the temperature and tweak their fans speed with Msi Afterburner. I'm also using Mac Fans Control now compatible with Mac Pro 7.1 and Windows 10. Without Afterburner (custom fan curve) and Mac Fans Control I measure more than 80° for each Nvidia gpu. Using the fan control utilities the temperature drops down to 70° about, the downside is the increased fan noise.

gabriele gelfo yes, I’m aware of that. I’m not a big of a fan (no pun intended) if the axial fan design. Like the blower styler more!

You may have much better scores with your 5700XT by doing the "Headless Adapter Trick". For some reason on Metal at least, you get a 200% improvement on scores simply by adding 2 headless display adapters in each 5700XT. You can do a quick google search and see just how many other people have noticed this. While I haven't tested this with dual a GPU setup, I can tell you that I am getting about a 20% improvement on 4K renders with the 5700XT (One 4K 60Hz monitor, 2 x Headless Display Port Adapters set to Scaled 4K) vs my old Radeon VII. But without the headless adapters, my findings were much like yours. I really hope this helps someone.

I've had both cards in my Hackintosh. You have to use open cl with 5700 XT to get best perfromance.

Yeah it's not on sell because the 5000 series are what AMD made to compete with Nvidias 2000 series GPUs buy people who build there PCs. The Radeon 7 has more power consumption then the rx5700xt. Aslo the rx5700xt is using AMDs NAVI where as the Radeon 7 is not. Vega will not be worked on much any more. So yeah it may be a nice card. But PC builders will stick with the 5700xt.

@ After some research, it seems the Vega VII will also beat the Pro W5700 as well. I have been using on in my Threadripper 2950X system and I love the performance. The 16GB works well for 4K videos, compared to the 8GB on the 5700XT. I'm hoping AMD will have a reasonable priced consumer card with 16GB of memory or more for 4K editing and above. I don't game but it is a big jump in price to get a Pro card over a consumer gaming card. Any new GPU coming out for 4K+ editing needs to have 16GB minimum, that is what I think. To see AMD release a Pro version of the VII, means they probably got the tweaks done for it to do better in as a Pro card. I have been looking around to see if I can find another one to buy but they are so overpriced, compared to what they were. The price is less than the Pro version, which is priced at $1899 US, a few places want between $1000 - 1400 for the standard VII.

Wonder how the VII would fare vs two RX 5700 XT? Probably not a big difference compared to RX 5700, but still. Hoping AMD's ”RDNA 2” cards (follow-up architecture to the RDNA of 5700 cards) will be good when they arrive. Seems power efficiency is much improved.

staraffinity noise wise? Almost no difference between 1 or 2 cards really. The Radeon vii have a higher pitch to the fan noise compared to the 5700xt!

Isac, I really appreciate you making this video. I have the 580 in my MP and rendering is a bummer with 4K and 5K stuff. I have almost no computer building experience. Should I stick with the cards on the apple website and get the 5700x? Or go with a different card? I'm just nervous about how to troubleshoot a card that didn't come from the apple store.

I guess the obvious thing to try is two Sapphire Radeon 64 Nitro + cards - cheap now and not much slower than the VII. Same RAM as the 5700XTs, but I think you might get a pair fro the price of one VII

Another downside of the Sapphire 5700XT: they are huge cards, and the shroud on them prevent proper ventilation offered by the mac pro front fans; the 5700XT are noticeable heavier when compared with the Radeon VII, hence the sag, especially noticeable on the lowest card.

Nope, No crossfire. Only actually working with dual in software that supports it. In this case, davinci resolve !

Hey the reason why some people get the score of 70k+ on geekbench because they use a kext called 'radeonboost.kext' its what boosted my score from 52593 to 83794(metal) you can also use this kext to overclock the gpu but i havent done that one yet......you can google it for more info and heres my scores imgur.com/a/ogF67RO
