+1337Sauce Ours sounds slightly cockney from his previous owner but I almost died the first time he copied me. The dogs were barking and he started squawking because there was someone at the door. I didn't realise I said the same thing to calm them whenever they go off on one but he shouted it before I had chance to. It was quite freaky! This morning a regular deliveryman asked me if we now had a parrot. I replied that we did and he said he stood waiting by the door for about ten minutes one day last week because he heard 'me' shouting "Hang on, just coming" LOL

Get told "No" thousands of times, its bound to sink in lol
@chrono-glitchwaterlily87763 жыл бұрын
Training a bird, they can learn to associate the word "No" with not getting what they want. The bird probably felt like the dog wanted to bite and was telling it that it can't get what it wants. The words "Don't bite" most likely came from it biting the human, as I doubt that the dog would've done the biting for it to learn what it meant
@nettewilson8533 жыл бұрын
@@chrono-glitchwaterlily8776 no. They actually understand words to the level of a five year old, maybe higher. They can create meaningful and unique phrases and grammatical structures and they have an innate sense of rhythm as humans do. It is hard to measure animal intelligence because even though their minds and perspectives are similar they are also different in many ways, and inferior in some ways yet superior in other ways.

+damstr8831 Hi. I would like to ask you how loud these Macaws are. I have watched a lot of videos about noisy Macaws and I can imagine how loud they can be. But for example when you keep a Macaw in a room where you close the door and your room is for example 3-4 meters away from his room, then how loud the voice of the parrot is in your room? Could you please make a very short video about it please? Or could you describe it at least? Thank you very much. :)
@damstr88318 жыл бұрын
+Gonzales Speedy Hi, thanks for the comment. These birds are very loud, I'll see if I have any vids of him really screeching, as a point of reference try to imagine a young person with healthy vocal ability screaming as loud as they can for no apparent reason at any random moment :) We all love this bird and yet there are times when he is completely unreasonable and will scream/screech. Sometimes y daughters (and I have too) will scream back, which I think is what he wants... this behavior explains why, when I rescued him, his vocabulary was primarily the phrases 'stop it', 'shut up' and 'don't bite'! His vocabulary has expanded to now include some great laughing sounds, 'I love you' and he calls (our now deceased) dog and a few profanities (ex-housemate+myself on occasion)... Overall a good member of our flock, but they do require a lot of attention, care, space and patience.Check back for a vid of the loud version...~D

That is an actual reason Parrot says that line. He learnt it from his "human" when he was biting him. He interpretted it not as "he is telling me I cant bite so I will tell the smae to the dog" but rather " he told me this when I was biting him so I will tell it too as I want to bite the dog too! "

you can tell the Boxer is happy given its playful and curious behavior. That's not aggression but a submissive playful mood. The tail wagging is a good sign.
@Tadwinked10 жыл бұрын
The macaw, however is giving the, "back off" signal. It's aggressive/defensive behavior. He feels threatened by the boxer and is threatening him back. No matter how gentle the animal, putting birds and predatory animals in such close proximity is a bad idea. Now that I'm done being a complete fun killer, I must admit that the video's amusing. :)

@wordivore10 жыл бұрын
TheBabyEinstein Oh wow. I didn't know all this about birds. I figured if the bird was large and the dog was playful it would be fine. Thanks for the info. I have experienced a sort of similar tragedy with dog and smaller pet...different animal other than a bird. I was little and had a large dog who was only playing with one of my gerbils. The dog killed the gerbil with one playful paw. I was at school, my sister got in my room (she was two and our mom wasn't watching her). Sis got the gerbils out to play with them and the dog followed her in. I was devastated when I got home.

@Cecilia de León birds are very smart so it probably picked up the sneeze from the dog as playful behavior just like he learned don’t bite, if the bird was actually fearing it’s life it most likely would have flown in a stressed way or if it’s wings were cliped would be screaming chaotically, the bird seems to be just fine.
@llsncl2 жыл бұрын
@Cecilia de León agreed, sneezing paired w/that head shake is a dog behavior indicating play and to diffuse tension. He's mirroring a behavior learned from the dog. Dogs do it to de-escalate play - he's likely using it to tell the dog to calm down. It's the head shake that gives away the fact that he's mirroring and not in fact "actually sneezing"

What I found even cooler was how the parrot was “sneezing” at the dog! Dogs do this when they are playing and roughhousing to let the other dog know that they are still just being playful-and not trying to fight. My dogs do this especially if one bites too hard, and the other gets upset, the one that bit will sneeze and shake his head. 😊

I honestly feel bad for the birds, they look so stunning and free in their natural habitat, it's sad it's being corrupted by humans though. It's nice to see people willing to give these birds everything they can, and its nice to see them happy even though they're not in their natural environment. Enjoy your bird Sir.

***** Thanks for the suggestions. I feel the same way you do, this is why sometimes I think it's better to have a dog or cat. They're both custom made for human life and environment. If I ever get a bird, I might set it free eventually, although it would be really hard, but sometimes I think they might not be able to survive in their natural habitat since they might not know what food to eat or who's a friend or a foe. I love how the bird twitches his head like the dog and acts like he wants to bite. He mimics everybody in that house it looks like lol.

Meanwhile the parrot can bite as much as it wants. Like raising a cat that can talk.

If your Macaw is anything like my mom's Blue Crowned Conure, that warning not to bite is like taking the gun off 'safety', just in case...Sugar has shown all my mom's other animals that they don't wanna be on his business end if they don't heed his warning.

Very sweet. It hard to get different animals to get along, but it works over time, and sometimes it doesn't.
