Verdi's life-long love affair with Shakespeare’s works began with Macbeth, a play he considered to be 'one of the greatest creations of man'. With his librettist Francesco Maria Piave Verdi set out to create 'something out of the ordinary'. Their success is borne out in every bar of a score that sees Verdi at his most theatrical. It bristles with demonic energy - particularly in the devilishly difficult role of Lady Macbeth.
Phyllida Lloyd's 2002 production for The Royal Opera is richly-hued, shot through with black, red and gold. The witches - imagined by designer Anthony Ward as strange scarlet-turbaned creatures - are ever-present arbiters of the action. Lloyd depicts Lord and Lady Macbeth's childlessness as the dark sadness lurking behind their terrible deeds. The Royal Opera’s production uses Verdi's 1865 Paris revision of the opera, which includes Lady Macbeth's astounding aria 'La luce langue'.

Why is she singing like that? What are those dynamics? It's absolutely not what is written on the score. She's making staccatos where there are none, and singing in whichever dynamic she feels like, and sometimes her vibrato sounds like a goat. At least she's more enjoyable than Radvanovsky or Netrebko, but far from the greatest singers who played that part, like Callas, Nilsson, or Verrett. She's not even close to her ankles.

With all due respect this is not critisim but my point of view :All middle register is airy, weak and you can't understand a word. High notes a few are flat. She may have the costume, the orchestra, but not the vocals

If an opera singer expects to get by without acting at all or acting poorly (pick one here for Monastyrska), he or she better have a titanic, clarion voice (Liudmyla does not); it's an indictment of contemporary opera that people believe this to be a good performance. If she had the acting chops, it could well have been a good performance paired with a decent voice. This video is undeserving of its relatively high position in search results for "Vieni! t'affretta!".
