The design works. You’re bored looking at it. The touch bar isn’t the butterfly keyboard. It’s a good size. It has plenty of power for most uses, including editing 4K video. It’s a Pro I can actually put in my Air’s slipcase comfortably. Don’t know why everybody’s complaining.

I bought the MacBook Air 2 years ago brand new. Never been dropped. Not one scratch on hardware, never had liquids near it let alone spilled on it. The screen has lines across it, it won’t boot. So today I went out and bought the MacBook Pro 13 inch. Wish me luck, because that’s a lot of money to be shelling out in a 2 year timeframe.

Good on Apple for keeping it. What you can’t do, if you care about your customers, is say to professionals “ hey, you can’t have what you could before, only something slightly worse. But not too much worse, you’ll be fine”. Professionals can get uncomfortable about the lack of the fan for heavier workloads, and that’s enough reason. And anyway, a company should never downgrade the experience of the users just because there is new cool stuff, only upgrade it. Even if it won’t be a success it must be in the lineup.

The M2 Mac Pro exists for the same reason that the iPhone SE 2016, 2020 and 2022 exists. It is a previously obsolete device with a CPU upgrade which means that it can use existing components and so is very cheap to manufacture. If like the iPhone SE it was 40% cheaper than modern models using all new components then it would be a great buy. Sell it for $999 and it would make sense.

The basic M2 MB Air only has binned 8-core GPU so it will perform significantly below the MB Pro 13 in heavy GPU workloads, the Pro about 25% more grunt. So you need to upgrade to the 10-core GPU for $100 making them the same price, but it is misleading to say the bas eM2 Air will perform close even disregarding the active cooling which can make a big difference in warmer ambient temperatures.

I was with you until you said there will be a big difference between the 10 core in the mbp and mba. Unless you are rendering something for more than 10min or something else extensive over time you won’t tell any difference. Even when the mba throttles it’s only a 6% difference

I love how every time Apple do a redesign on any product(something that should be standard over time) they have the balls to charge the customer extra for it. Thinner bezels and a notch on i Phone X…an extra $300, touch bar on mac pro…$300, a new bigger screen for the mac pro 14…new price $1800(instead of $1300), i Pad Pro has thinner bezels now…$250 extra. Madness when you think about it…

@ONEWAYLEEWAY2 жыл бұрын
@@philippeggmann9809 It shouldn’t be the consumers job to pay for the redesigns, if Apple didn’t refresh their product line, sales would fall. It’s crazy how very little has been said about this.
@andyH_England2 жыл бұрын
The main reason is that TSMC have put their prices up, this was well advertised and hard to ignore as inflation is everywhere! I heard it is about $100 extra for the A16 and maybe more for the M2, so the consumers have to pay for supply price increases and just look at the Intel 12th gen, even with much higher competition they have escalating prices. I think you are being unreasonable there as Apple costs R&D over the life cycle of a design so cost per unit is not that high. It is sadly just the world we live in now with inflationary pressures that will get worse before they get better.
@ONEWAYLEEWAY2 жыл бұрын
@@andyH_England In 2017 the i Phone X was $250/$300 more expensive then the previous i phone just because it had smaller bezels and a notch. Inflation was no where near as bad as it is today(because the world wasn’t falling apart) and they STILL charged us extra. Sound familiar? It should because they’re doing it again with the Macbook Air…Same smaller bezels, notch and $200/£250 more expensive.
@andyH_England2 жыл бұрын
@@ONEWAYLEEWAY There was a $200 difference between the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X and the X has more expensive OLED and the very expensive (at the time) front Face-ID camera tech. Though I am not saying they are worth the extra $200 there was other stuff as well including a co-processor on the X for a Secure Enclave, also dual optical stabilization on rear cameras on iPhone X. So for me saying Apple ramped up the price just because of a new design is way too simplistic and not really true.

Macs are expensive, Designed to fail, and would be great if open sourced with better cooling, and less slim design philosophy, more practical thinking, and modular, replicable key components that fail frequently. the answer for this product is simple. it’s macbook gov/mil/edu. it’s not for the consumers. in order to meet the RFP requirement, the product needs to be publicly available. also needs to be new enough to last yet old enough so it’s easy/cheap to maintain. think about the global gov/mil/edu balk purchase. aapl is making the right decision.
