MacBook Pro or any MacBook when connected for charging with supplied power adapter, leaks electric current and the user can feel a slight to a moderate tingling electric shocks while using the MacBook. I have analysed the root cause of the issue and have a solution to this problem which is narrated in this video.
There is also a short replaceable duck-head adapter with ground pin available at Amazon USA, I have placed the link below. I believe this is much more portable.
Please do subscribe and comment for feedback and support the channel.

Thank you very much. I bought my MacBook Air 2020, in Bengaluru and it was shipped to Pune as as soon as I connected it to Charging I felt the Static Current on the MacBook Air. Contacted Apple Support and they call from Singapore with NO SOLUTION and advised me to visit their Customer Care Centres Unicorn, Viman Nagar. I was shocked to find utter rude staff there who was ready to listed to my issue and kept telling me that the tingling sensation of electricity is normal for MacBooks. Rather they connected a couple of Devices to show that static current on a Mac is simply normal and there's no solution whatsoever. I then Googled and found your video, and the issue of Static Current has been RESOLVED after buying the cable from Amazon. To my unfortunate luck, Amazon is now not showing up the link as I wanted to order one more cable for myself. Thank you for doing a deep drive and providing a resolution with such ease.

Also there should be connectivity between cable's Earth pin of the plug and the MacBook body, it works best. If there is no continuity then the cable is at fault. With long term of leakage of current from the power supply is not good for semiconductors and battery and overall the system. I am not sure of Apple extension cord; but I am using CABLESETC 3 pin extension cord since 2019 and I’m still using it on my MacBook Pro. For sinking current to the earth you need 3-pin cord and house earthing should be proper. Any electrical equipment where there is a leakage of stray current is harmful to the equipment and the whole peripherals that you connect to it. Alternatively, you may use isolation transformers which are again way too costly and bulky equipment.

Before contacting the Apple, please check your earthing if it is really present or OPEN. Either call an electrician to check this. I used a multi-meter, placing it in AC Voltage mode, checked the voltage between Earth & Neutral, ideally that will be around 0 to 5V. If you are using a Spike Buster or Extension Box, please check the spike buster or extension box if it has proper earthing. Please note that only skilled technical personnel should do it with proper care else it is hazardous.

The 20W Apple charger should be of type-C, please see if you change the charger the leakage is still there or try with another brand that has type-C charger port. iPad & iMac you can use the same solution with Earthing 3 -pin wire for the Adapter to suppress leakage current, but the iPhone you don't have any adapter with 3-pin, you can leverage Power Bank for iPhone in this regard. Its the leakage stray current that you get a mild buzz when touched the system's body. Since you have already checked the electricals and earthing of your house, please check what is the voltage you get between Neutral & Earth pins of the socket on Multimeter in DC mode? A proper earthing should give you 3V - 5V and please see if you have a spike buster that has some LEDs on it for showing phase reversals etc., these are sometimes dangerous and leak current into earthing.

@automotriztechnica Жыл бұрын
@@rs12393 Dear Radha Ji, there is no issue with your MacBook Air, it is the problem of the Apple’s charger design. So nothing to worry about it. No need to take it to Service Center etc. Simplest way is to buy a 3-pin cable with the DuckHead from Amazon India or a direct 3-Pin DuckHead (Available on US Amazon), the later does not have thick wire. Nischinta Rahaa 💐 Reason is all the higher wattage chargers need a 3rd pin in the charger itself so that any leakage current from the Power Supply, Switch Mode components and the DC converter circuit inside the adapter should be well grounded and it goes to the body and the 3rd pin is connected to the earthing pin of your building/ house electrical outlet. Apple does not have this 3-pin DuckHead nor a cable but provided by 3rd party, I am not sure why Apple still sticks on to this design. If you see Lenovo/HP/Dell laptop charger, they already give such type of cables, hence you won’t feel the shocks/buzz effect when you touch the metal hinges. It works on the adapters having the same input type. Adapter wattage is at your output stage. Will work well. The Cablestec cable that I have is rated at 2.5A at 125V which is capable of 312.5W and in India I am connecting it to AC, that is 220V, say at 1A of AC if I draw, I get input of 220W, well sufficient to drive input stage. It won't draw even a current at 1A, but it will be in milli ampere approximately 200mA to 436mA max at 220V for a 96W adapter depending on loads. The cord what I have is having US AC pins and might need an adapter or a extension cord like GM having 3-pin socket universal. Your Earthing pin is important here.

This is not your iPad Air issue but the charger that is leaking the current into the ground. You may try another charger with the same type to check if the charger has any manufacturing defect. The back of iPad Air 4th generation is also metal. It's the same issue that I have described here, the solution is what I mentioned in the video if your charger has a removable duck head and change it to 3 pin having earthing. The iPad Air 4th generation has C-Type charging port, you may try the 30W charger which has removable 2 pin duck head and you can replace it with 3 pin AC cord. Secondly you may try charging your iPad Air from a PC USB port which is properly grounded with earthing. This is another solution but charging may be slower than the supplied charger.

I had 3 ping charger with my macbook air … But I feel small vibration when using it while charging .. Is this problem occurs only in 2 pin charger or 3 pin also? And should I buy also the extension cable ?

Please ensure that your 3rd pin has a real earthing connection that conducts the metal body. You can check the continuity with a multimeter. Secondly, please check your house electrical has a proper earthing done as well. If all are good, check the adapter has a middle lug where you can change this 3 pin wire by replacing the 3 pin duck head

Please check if monitor has 3-pin power outlet pins including earth pin. If still there is tingling then check earthing of your house. Best thing is to earth the Macl with 3-pin cable power outlet

I’m having same problem with my iPhone. I purchased a 12 watt power adapter yesterday and I’m feeling mild shock when touching lower part of iphone and around camera. But there was no such problem with in box power adapter. Although it also didn’t had 3 pin for earthing. I contacted apple and they said it’s normal. Maybe there’s problem with my home and electrical supply. But it’s really annoying

When I travelled to India and used iPhone charger there, I had the same shock. Don't know why it does not happen in US. May be 240V is high enough voltage to cause leakage currents from charger and pass it through the cable. Most of the after market iPhone chargers I purchased has the same issue. I guess they all copied the same design from Apple which is designed and tested for 120V mostly. If they tested for 240V may be the can be found.

@@KnowledgeCravings my problem is fixed now. I only got shock when i was charging on inverter. There was some problem with my inverter and electrical circuit in my home. Also, don’t use local/other power adapter to charge your iPhone. It will affect your battery health

@@Dr_AK33 Thanks for the info. After you mentioned inverter, it struck to me that my test was also done with inverter connected socket. May be I had the same problem as you did. But I do remember that the mild shock was observed when Mains are connected vs inverter. Do you know what the inverter problem was?

@@KnowledgeCravings my inverter had some problem. I took it for repair. In the mean time i was using an old inverter(which also has some issues, but it gets work done). I felt shock when inverter was on but not in mains. Also do check earthing of your house.

@@Dr_AK33 Inverter does not have a pure Sine wave, hence the issue.

Will this also help when the electricity surge or fluctuations happen at home?
@automotriztechnica
@automotriztechnica 2 жыл бұрын
This is not a surge protection, but any unwanted currents will go to earth. For unwanted surge protection best recommended is a stabilizer or the budget is less you can have a good quality spike buster

@@automotriztechnica thank you very much for the reply! I lost 2 chargers due to power fluctuations in 2 months and wanted to know how can I avoid it in the future.

@@m0h1tD33pak Losing 2 chargers is something crazy fluctuations going on at your area. If your mains supply is fluctuating, a spike buster wont help much. Please connect in between a V-Guard voltage stabilizer and connect the adapter to the output of the stabilizer. Also please measure the voltage that you get in the morning, evening & in the night. Note it down and act accordingly.

Phone charger does not leak current it’s negligible whereas the M1 Air adapter is of higher capacity, leakage current is more and human skin can feel it

Brother but macbook air m1 power adaptor is of 30 watt, The URL of cable in description is 45 watt minimum, Will it damage the adaptor?
@automotriztechnica
@automotriztechnica 3 жыл бұрын
You can use the cable because the input pins are same. It will not damage the adapter. The 30W adapter also has the same duck head and plug-in for international AC sockets compatibility so that you can change the duck head based on the country specs. It does not matter what the wattage of the adapter you have. The output what mentioned is 30W for your adapter for your MacBook Air M1.

When unplugged from power source, then you have some other board related issue. You need to check it at service center. When you plugged into the AC mains with 3-pin adapter, keeping mains off, do you see this issue?
