You'd be surprised at how valuable older laptop parts are at the moment. The uptake in second hand market for home schooling and working from home has resulted in both the laptops and parts going up in value. So that Macbook 2012 for parts only is worth around or could sell for upwards of £100 depending on what was broken on it.

I think you should charge a small fee for the speaker parts you supplied. 5 or 10 pounds doesnt sound terrible but then again ive not looked up what they cost new on ebay. Reasons are you had to at least use up space to store the parts, inventory them and then strip and install them.

the dust had eaten the foam surround of the "subwoofer" speaker; on speakers with foam surrounds the surrounds usually last 15-20 years but dust and moisture can eat them away more quickly. I noticed you have (or had) a pair of speakers in the shop which look to be 30 years old - if they still work fine they'll have cloth, rubber or foam-rubber mix surrounds that don't deteriorate like ones that are just foam do.

The SATA Ports in the 2012 MBP are definitely Sata 3 (6Gb/s), even the 2011 Models have Sata 3, I think. And both ports are the same speed, so if the HDD port ist Sata 3, die ODD port is as well. Because of that, I would definitely leave the HDD in it's place, since Apple has done a really good job with the shock mounts in the Unibody MacBooks, whereas the "Superdrive to SSD Adapter", as I shall call it, has basically none.

I have been seeing this issue on 2015 MacBook Pro's on their dual subs. Always a slight tear in the cone. I wonder if the material apple used dries out and starts falling apart. Oddly enough the tweeters I have never seen go bad.
@gorjy96103 жыл бұрын
tweeters usually don't work so hard as subs and movement is much less aggressive. Of course if they use good quality materials to make them in a first place this will not happen probably ever in life time of laptop. But in other hand apple expect that you will buy new one every years so they probably don't see a problem in manufacturing cost cuts like this one.

Respectfully, I disagree sir. Second hand/savaged parts DO have value. Just because the part is not new, or may have been acquired or salvaged for free or little cost does not negate your time and effort in acquiring said part, testing/verifying said part. In addition, there are situations where a new part may not be available due to age, or locale availability. Never consider your stock or efforts as valueless regardless of its origin or time spent. This is simply not the case IMHB as your experience is an immeasurable resource.

It was a MBP screen, but the glass on it has been replaced at some point in its lifetime. Either way I think the MacBook and MacBook Pro both had the same panel in them. It wasn't particularly exotic - you needed the Matte panel for actual quality, which wasn't glass-fronted.
