My biggest and ONLY issue with the potential of traveling with just a carry on is my liquids… I’m a skincare and makeup and haircare freak and doing 2 weeks holiday with just the airport allowance of liquids is just undoable for me :/ even if I’d transfer them into only travel containers it’ll be too many to bring on the plane. And I can’t imagine for example not traveling with 1-2 full bottles of body sunscreen lotion as I use it all during those 2 week so 100ml would do nothing :/ liquids tbh r the only thing keeping me from traveling with carry on only and it’s really frustrating sometimes ngl

I love using cubes not only to compress clothes, but also to organize them - especially if I change hotels during my trip. It is great way to easy see what clothes are still clean ;) and if you move hotels you don't need to pack and unpack everything in every one of them (as long as you know where which clothes are). Also: if you need to take something out from suitcase during trip your clothes are not visible and are less likely to fall out :) [mine carry on suitcase have zipper compartment only on one side and other is fully visible right away - I don't think I have ever seen suitcase with both sides with zipper closing as here in video - that looks like great feature]

@janemuses30315 ай бұрын
Some things I also do is I pack a duffle bag that collapses into nothing in my carry-on for when I want to shop on my trip. It's much easier to check in luggage on the way home as you really only need to make the trip from airport to home so no lugging it around. Also, I wash my clothes (underwear and tees) in the hotel sink so I bring some portable detergent. Recently discovered merino wool tees - they are an investment but so great for travel - regulates your temp better, washes well in the sink and dries fast and you can wear it for several days without it smelling too. So a win win for me.

I've been traveling kinda often for the past year and gradually learning how to pack lighter each time, but still struggle with the same issue. I LOVE TO BUY STUFF ON MY TRIPS! So here are three tips I have found useful in case you wanna try them: 1. I bring with me as my personal item a spacious backpack that is easy to compress and expand and keep it empty. If anything, I'll just put inside it another crossbody bag or something light that is my real personal item with just the essential stuff in it (cellphone, passport, wallet, toothbrush, etc). I've easily managed to sneak in both my carry on suitcase and my 40L backpack as it fits perfectly under the seat while empty. I use it to fit in there all the stuff I buy. 2. Once I'm returning, the backpack might be kinda heavy and not so easy to sneak in as a personal item. There is one thing that has happened to me in almost every single trip. Airlines prefer you to have your luggage checked, so there are fewer things in the cabin; so most of the time, they'll offer or accept if you ask to check your carry-on; of course, FREE OF CHARGE. So I do that and don't worry they'll tell me something about the backpack because now it can easily be considered my "carry-on" as I board, and I can even have another personal item still. Has worked every single time! 3. I always keep in my suitcase a gym-style foldable bag (Decathlon has some that are unbelievably light) just in case I need some extra space. If I have to pay anything extra, it might as well only be on one and not both flights and so far, it hasn't happened yet. I once came back with three suitcases and they documented them all for free, haha. Good luck!

I love packing light, I always go with 2 bottoms, 2 tops, and a jacket/sweater even for a 2 day trip incase something happens to the clothes and a full change is needed. For a week 3 top, 2 bottoms, and maybe a dress (I am slowly moving over to more dresses); then 4-6 tops, 2-3 bottoms, 2-3 dresses, and of course 2 jackets/cardigans for anything over a week. Honestly even the above listed “one week” can sometimes be over kill since I always wear items at least twice and if I am wearing my favorite wool items I could go the whole week in one outfit without needing to wash it or feeling gross (for all you doubters I too was HIGHLY skeptical of these claims and now know that wool fabric is legit magic and a new must in my closet lol).
@westcoastmeltingpot32345 ай бұрын
As a flight attendant, I will tell you that packing light is the best thing you can do because when I am not working, I am traveling, and I take nothing more than a carry-on and an overnight bag, depending on the time. In each bag is room for items I might acquire along the way, although I avoid necessary purchases by traveling. If you plan on traveling with just your carry-on, buying a ticket gives you an earlier boarding group after boarding group 3 is best. Most likely, there is no more space on a domestic flight. Pay attention to the aircraft. If it's an Airbus 319, 320 or a 737 other than 737max, the overhead bin space is most likely limited. Especially if you're on a 737-800 or a widebody plan, there is typically space for most carry-on luggage if people pay attention to crewmember instructions. Give your fellow travelers the courtesy you would like and put your backpack underneath your seat along with your purses or shopping bags; that way, the flight leaves on time because you're flight attendants won't have to contact gate agents to make bag tags and, then the agents have to contact the baggage handlers to open the cargo door. If you have connections, this can add up to 45 minutes to a departure delay. The further flights are possibly Miss connections. Once you hear your cabin crew announce that boarding is complete, throw your small items up if there's overhead space. The cabin crew will not care. But also remember, if you're in a lesser boarding group, the space that's a lot to you is the space that's in front of your feet, not over your head, so if you're boarding groups four or five, most likely, you will not get space in the overhead on a domestic flight. Once again, please be considerate of your fellow travelers. If you have one of those big backpacks that count says you're carry-on, don't come on with a big backpack and a roller board because there's only one item in the overhead bin per passenger on a domestic plane. There are 165 seats and only spaces for 65 bags. If you're flying on a Boeing 787 or 777, the bins that is over the windows easily accommodates rolling luggage. The bends over the middle seats are for smaller bags. So please give people the kindness you want; it will make the travel experience so much better for everyone.

Hey Maddie, love watching your home and travel content. I wanted to offer you a small tip regarding skin congestion based on your last video after your travels in Costa Rica and Central America. Travelling in tropical climate countries means lots of sunscreen and when it’s not washed off properly, it can cause skin congestion. You should try double cleansing with an oil cleanser first, followed by a foamy gel or cream cleanser when you wear sunscreen or makeup. It helps a lot. My favourite oil cleansers are from Shu Uemura or Bobbi Brown. If you have not used one before, the tip is to use it as the first step during cleansing on dry skin. Pour some on your hand and massage the oil into your face to loosen the sunscreen, dirt, facial oil, grime, dust and gently massage your face. Then wet your palms and go over your face to emulsify your face and the oil will turn milky white. Then, rinse your face and follow with a gel or cream cleanser. The oil cleanser doesn’t make your skin oily but it’s great to lift and loosen any oil, dirt or sunscreen from your pores. I hope this will help with your skin during your next travel especially to hot, humid, tropical climates 😊

You are not supposed to transfer toiletries in other containers, especially the sunscreen. They have been tested for stability in the original container so the formula can break down upon transfer quite easily. Besides sunscreen becoming yellow and watery, I even had my Redken shampoo dry out completely in travel silicone tubes (not during the trip but when I prepped for a second trip later; but still, lots of product wasted). That’s why I get minis as though they seem pricier than transferring already available product, is more economical, effective and safe long term.

I started going back on holidays now my kids are older (I always just considered it a hassle) and I already was careful with clothes, I always bring a little bottle of black soap which is a "wash everything" natural soap (body to clothes to dishes and general cleaning) to do a little laundry in the sink if we're going somewhere warm and I can hang stuff over a balcony or fence or garden furniture XD But the packing cubes are a really good tip!

Love HIDUPZ , will be taking it to go to work. I love all the ability to organize everything w pockets some w zippers. My first bag had the liner rip. They replaced it faster than I could ship return. Thank you!

Its easier definitely, if solo or just packing for one !!! But if travelling family with small kids its not possible, you have to check a bag, otherwise the parents will be stuck with holding kids hands and rolling each ones carry on suitcases

I have a fifteen day Transatlantic cruise next March to Europe. Your capsule wardrobe method/formula makes SO much sense bc even it's abt a year away, I was starting to feel overwhelmed by how many articles of clothing I would need to pack. I will definitely be referring back to this video when I pack....which is almost as fun as being on the actual trip/cruise/vacation etc lol.

Great video! Concise but thorough 👌 as a new mum who is also new to living in Europe, capsule packing has chosen me 😂

Honestly I’m an over packer. I can still fit a weeks worth of everything I need in a carry on. I really think it comes down to how neatly you fold things. My partner packs less than I do but needs a way bigger bag because they don’t pack neatly they just throw it in. Also packing neatly makes clothes less wrinkly.

Love the video!! I may be overlooking it, but where's the beautiful green bag from that you use to pack your personal items?? I am dying to know.

These are great tips! My husband and I traveling in Italy for two weeks in May (our first time international), so i will definitely be putting these to use! We only opted for a carry on but up until now I was stressing about that fact. Haha I love your shorter form content and this longer form content as well!

I will be in Italy too and I will fly with my rain boots and the carry on!! Italy is not Spain for weather!

I often use zip lock food bags fir packing. Fold the garments to fit the size of bag you are using. Close the zip runner until almost the end then press or roll the remaining air out., and finish closing the zip. This really controls the garments, keeps them in position at all times. E❤'

so helpful! i am going to france for 2 weeks in a carry on and i am a notorious overpacker, but i'm excited about giving it a shot!

Occasionally I hav😢e seen abandoned wheelie cases - wheels have broken, or single stem handles have broken. If there is no carry handle on the case there is a problem. I always pack a couple of light fabric (rip stop nylon) bags, something to put the suitcase contents in if needed. Alternatively, have three sturdy luggage straps in the case. Put two round the case, about 8 inches apart, and tighten them.. . lengthways or width ways, whichever is best for balance. . Use the third to make a handle either at one side or at the top between the two straps.

I’m happy to see how you looked with your packed (but not over packed!) Patagonia MLC! It’s rare that I can see how women look with the packs on their backs. Some bags hit way too high on my neck!

Doesn’t carry on have a strict weight limit though? In India, domestic flights have 7 or 8 kg allowance in economy, which can sometimes not be enough after you add shoes and toiletries, or a hair straightening tool. Last year I travelled on a domestic flight via FinnAir, and they only allowed 3 liquid items in the standard zip lock bag, even if you had space for more.

I liked how you packed, but you need a cover for your toothbrush. You never know if at night something would be crawling on it, or when housekeeping is cleaning it keeps it protected from the cleaning spray mists, etc.

I wonder if you have to worry about the weight limit though. I know a lot of airlines don't really care about the weight, but there may be a day where someone just randomly decided to ask you to weigh your carry on.
@aatashiwadoremi5 ай бұрын
If you go on more international trips, airlines definitely weigh your carry on luggage. However, my experience is that you really don’t need that extra weight. Even with me needing extra space in my luggage to dedicate to medications and medical devices, I still was able to be under the limit no problem. I would focus on outfits that can be mixed and matched and lightweight options. I also would only bring two pairs of shoes, max. As long as you plan it out properly and according to your destination, it is *totally* doable :) My biggest tip: Try living out of your suitcase while at home in preparation for your trip (or as a way to test it in general.) Is there anything you don’t use? Or anything you could shave weight down on? You could also try this out on a weekend road trip or camping trip. It really helps you figure out how to cut down on weight when you have to carry it all yourself. P.S. I say this as a chronic overpacker, you can totally do it! It seems really hard, but the more you do it, the more manageable it becomes. Good luck!

Although I will always carry two checked rolling suitcase, and one carry on bag, I always love watching these videos to see the other possibliity. (i'm unabashedly not willing to sacrifice comfort.) I dress up, and love my clothes, so for me its always been worth the effort. I typically pack food and special ingredients, in one suitcase, which sounds crazy but saves money as I stay in apartments and I really love cooking rather than go to restaurants all the time. I also shop, so I bring a lot of new things back in that extra suitcase. One thing about packing lightly. - no space for special homemade things from the places you travel. I'm going to be in London/Dublin/Sicily/Marrakesh. Its a bit of a challenge - as Dublin will most likely be cold and rainy; and Marrakesh will require dressier summery clothes since I"m staying in a resort. I also plan to bring back things from Marrakech. I also bring my work computer and personal macbook. So I'm the opposite maximalist but it also means, I realize I can carry my life in two and a half suitcases which is awesome and minimalist in a way haha. I did challenge myself to scale down for a weekend in Vegas. I bought a small backpack and a Roll on Carry on. Videos like this, helped me! And I survived haha.
