The 250-000 is also known as an OXA toolpost and refers to the size, which happens to be the same I use on my 7" X 14" Chinese mini-lathe. If you think about it, the piston type pushes out, resting only on the dovetails and piston pressure. The wedge type pulls the tool back to rest against the base and dovetails, giving more rigidity. I didn't realize that the myfords had flat bed ways until now...like the american Atlas lathes

I just got one of these for my little 7X10 mini lathe. It really is nice, especially compared to the toolpost that you get with the lathe. It's much easier to adjust the tip of the tool to the center line for cutting.

Steve I have that 250-000 on my Harbor Freight 7x10. it is very nice in finish and the best for solid tool holding. i found that the center post has a loose fit to the helical driver with 0.018" difference between ID and OD. By putting a piece of 0.006 shim stock around the center post i got a much smoother and more positive action of the locking lever. Good review.

Hi Steve, I’ve made a few of your projects and I like the way you explain them in detail. I’ve got a four-way tool post on my Myford at the moment and this would be a very versatile upgrade. I notice with the 250-000 that you’ve fitted it to your cross slide but with some of your previous tool posts you made solid mounts that fitted directly to the cross slide and I think you did this for better rigidity? I thought the solid mount you made for the larger piston type toolpost was very good but do you think it would work for the 250-000 tool post. I ask because maybe a solid mount could also be adapted for a double purpose as a mini milling table to hold small jobs whist they are being bored or milled? I know you made a milling table out of an ML7 cross slide but do you think that a smaller solid block could be made to serve as a toolpost holder and also a milling/ clamping table? Thanks Steve - Please keep the videos rolling!

Sorry Steve - in my above comment I made a mistake = you have obviously fitted the 250-00 to the topsile and not the cross slide!

Hi Steve, I think your solid tool post mount you made for the 250-100 toolpost could be adapted for the 250-000 toolpost with some height modifications? I’ve ordered the 250-000 toolpost plus the 001, 002 and 004 holders. Do you think the parting tool works well? @@SteveJordan , Thanks for the reply . sorry mine is late . I am pretty new to lathing , I would have thought it was harder to centre the tool without the centre part of the work piece as you would be guessing where the centre is
@SteveJordan Жыл бұрын
You can easily find the centre height. There's several different ways. One is to put a small drill in the toolpost drill chuck and put a steel rule between the end of that drill and the diameter of the workpiece or bar. Wind the cross slide in onto the steel ruler, pinching it lightly. The steel ruler should be dead verticle if the centre height is correct. If the steel ruler is at an angle one way or another, you adjust the centre height until the steel ruler is dead upright when lightly pinched in position. Regards Steve

Hi michael, did you by chance find a pairing off blade for the tool holder 250-007
@Import_Fails3 ай бұрын
@@jeffbarrett1787 Hi Jeff. I don't use the 250-007 any more and I don't have a brandname or a link for a ready made blade for you. But you can try a blank HSS blade with >12mm hight, 2-3 mm thickness and a length of about 100mm. The hight of the blade must be at least 12.3 mm, otherwise the locking mechanism won't work. And you have to modify the cutting edge of the HSS blade by yourself (angle and tip) which is not very funny. Instead of the 250-007 I use a 250-001 with a Paulimot FSLTBN10-02 holder (piggyback) and an HSS-Co8 Blade in 2.5x12x100mm dimension (I think also from Paulimot). Not the sturdiest combination but it works for me at least on plastic, aluminum and brass. For steel I would recommend something stronger with one holder only. Paulimot is a german company that sells cheap chinese tools. You can google their URL and search for the products. Hope that helps.

Thanks for Your video. I recently bought that toolpost and a number of -001 and -002. The holders has a vertical capacity of 12 mm, maybe even 1/2 inch. The width however is only 7.5 mm (.300"). @gangleweed4 жыл бұрын
It would be better to mill a bit off the bottom of the tool itself, that way you can use bigger tools and still get the height right. If you haven't got a mill then mount the tool in the 4 jaw chuck and face it down or mount the tool on the tool holder and use an end mill in the 3 jaw to mill the bottom of tool down to size.

Steve, your're giving us contradictory information. Three months ago you told us that the piston type QCTP was the best. Now, you're telling us that the wedge style is better. Which is it? Both claims cannot be true.
@SteveJordan5 жыл бұрын
I actually never knew about the Aloris type then, until someone spoke about it in the comments. Many people say that this type is the best for rigidity and repeat-ability and so far I must admit they are excellent in every way. Having said that though, I have three completely different toolpost types. Those being the Dixon Quickchange, the Machifit Piston Type and this Aloris type. I personally have found them all to be very good and still use all of them on the Myford ML7, for high precision work. When I first acquired my lathes if I had known about the wedge Aloris type toolpost I would have most probably bought this one, as I think the holding mechanism is outstanding in its design and so far I am really pleased with its precision repeatably performance. Plus I really like the actual tool-holder type options that go with the toolpost. At the end of the day though, its not something that would bother me in the slightest if I only had the choice of the others, which I have proved to be very good as well. The Aloris type just takes away any chance of the tool-holders working loose like they sometimes do with the Dixon type, (I haven't had this happen with the Machifit Piston type so far). I think really its just a matter of preference though, just like it is with any other tooling.
@EDesigns_FL5 жыл бұрын
@@SteveJordan First, Machfit is not a type/style or standard for QCTP's. What you're referring to is just a cheap piston clone of Aoris's design. What you actually have is not three different types of QCTP's, but two types (Dixon & Aloris) and two different SIZES of one type (OXA and AXA). Second, this should not even have to be stated, but apparently does, you shouldn't represent yourself as an expert on a subject and express your opinion on something you know little about. You'll mislead your viewers when you do, as you did with this subject, and you expose yourself to ridicule. Third, I was the commenter who exposed the folly of your claims to the prior video.
