Thanks Steve. I bought one of these from Arc Euro Trade for my Warco WM180. I had to bore out the base plate to fit over the boss on the compound, but it is a very nice toolpost. I have made a handle to replace the locking nut on top and have now started a batch of shop made extra tool holders.

Just spotted your reply to someone else about 250-007 height. I inverted tool and reversed chuck and did not use height adjustment. Just locked toolpost really hard, although inverted the adjustment screw forces are upwards in reverse so not needed. Parts better in reverse.

Well done review sir, I have been puzzling over a tool post up-grade from the "button" style I am currently using. I believe I will go with the same model you have reviewed here, it seems that it would be much more ridged than my current set-up.I also followed your videos on the milling set-up for the Chinese mini-lathe, with good results. Thanks again.

I believe you will find that the part-off tool #250-007 with its 4 degree back rake will not work on a 7x mini lathe. The blade will be too high. You will need part-off tool #250-007T that has zero back rake angle for use on a 7x mini lathe. But it doesn’t appear that Banggood sells this holder.

these are pretty good if you get the steel post. I don't recommend the knurling tool for these for mini lathe bcs with this type, the lack of rigidity will show most bcs it applies pressure laterally. for knurling, the clamping type gives a better cut than push against. all in all I love my QCTP, and now I see the 250-001 are commonly sold online under $15! time to pick up a couple more thanks for the mini lathe tips. my machine is much better since I started watching this channel haha

Steve, have you an explanation for the two gib positions? It doesn't seem possible to fit 2 tools in post. Is this preference or job dependent. or maybe for parting tools fitted upside down? (Just received a complete set today - yes, very well made and finished beautifully). Ooops just ansered this myself - the 2nd tool position is for things like boring bars in line with main lathe chuck!

Hello Steve. I was just watching your video on the Mechifit tool post and holder. I so impressed I order from the usual suspects a Mechifit tool post and what i thought would come with 5 tool holder that is shown in the picture. More fool me. Anyway the tool post arrived without any holders. I ordered up some cheaper holders which I thought would fit the Mechifit tool post but when they arrive the dovetailed slot was to narrow by a couple of millimetres. Rather than waste these holders what would be the thought on opening up the dovetail slot to make them fit my tool post. if it works it would cut the cost of tool holder by 3/4 the cost of Mechifit holders. I appreciate they would not be of the same quality but sufficient for the hobby Mini lathe user.

Hi Steve, didn't you do a modification awhile back to the Dixon T37 tool holder whereby you increased the diameter of the centre-height adjusting screw and substituted a locking nut for the cap head screw. I can't find it anywhere on your channel. I would really like to review that video. Regards Jeff (Australia)

Thanks! Very nice tool review. Wish it could fit on my unimat... it can, but it's way to big for the unimat. The unimat center is 12mm (1/2") above the carriage bed so it's very limited. I'll keep it in mind for the next lathe! :)

Steve, (2nd question) It seems for recent mini lathes (mine an Axminster SC2) the little spring/ratchet under the toolpost needs removing as this interferes with rotation. It also might be worth replacing the nut on top with an lever nut to position angle of toolpost.

Thank you for your excellent video's. I've just bought my first lathe an Emco Compact 8 clone and have purchased on your advice this tool post which is indeed very sturdy. My only concern is after it came apart by accident it now only locks counterclockwise as I cannot get the tool holders on with the gibs up. I tried swapping them around but that has no effect. I did notice that tightening or loosening the centre part (with the slit on top has some effect but cannot get it to work. I'm happy to leave it as it is unless you think there might be an issue doing it this way? I like the pace of your video's they're good to follow for someone at my beginner level and give confidence.

Hi Daniel, I had the same experience at first with mine. It is only that the gib has located in the wrong position when loading it into the toolpost. It took me several attempts to get it right. You have to take the gib out and put it back in so the handle take up mechanism picks up with the tooth on the back of the gib correctly. Trying different positions of the handle in accordance with the pick up of the first tooth on the back of the gib. It took me a while to work it out with several attempts. It is a bit like putting the jaws into a chuck in the correct pickup sequence. I can assure you there is nothing wrong with your toolpost set. It is just a matter of trial and error until you get it right on the correct pickup position. Let me know how you get on with it. Regards Steve

@@SteveJordan I think the problem might be that the toolholder are very low on the post and the gibs appear to be touching the top of the compound slide before they completely tighten up. Tightning it counterclockwise seems secure and also prevents the nut of the post te become looser as one tightens the toolholder. I tried repositioning the gibs with 1 click 2 clicks and even 3 clicks after they were loose and the tool post ends indeed in a different place but not so I can do it correctly. Thanks for your advice anyway .

Steve I have a problem with mine, in that one of the sides the tool holders get stuck in the wedge of the toolpost and don't come out when loosened but is absolutely fine in the other side, I have contacted the people where I got mine from but they weren't willing to send a replacement wedge/dovetail. @SteveJordan4 жыл бұрын
You could blue it up with a permanent marker pen then put it back in and operate the wedge a few times to see where it is sticking. Then rub the area with a fine emery abrasive until it stops sticking. My one took a while to 'run in' on one as well.

Steve, You had previously dispensed with the compound slide and fixed the tool post to a special block to improve rigidity. One the previous video you said you were going to see if this worked for the mini lathe. Hi Steve, I decided to order this kit so set about placing my first Banggood order. Honestly, it was so unclear what you actually get - is it a kit? -is it just the toolpost? -is it the post plus one toolholder? The price was wildly different depending on whether you clicked the GB or CH warehouse box. The photographs and item numbers didn't match the description..... It's probably just me being new to Banggood but I ended up so confused that I just forgot the whole idea! I'm not blaming you, you've obviously learnt how the site works, and I really enjoy your videos (especially the actual machining ones). Keep them coming. Perhaps it's just me getting old!
@SteveJordan5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken the site is a bit unclear at first. You have to click on each toolpost separately adding them to your Banggood online basket before checking out and paying. You can see each different number toolholder in your basket in small numbers under the photos and you can choose how many of each toolholder and the toolpost itself. It looks more difficult than it is but one can check all contents before checking out and paying for the items. Regards Steve

Ken Henman I,m with you! Can’t see how to buy the whole kit - ie the post and the 5 tool holders?? Mitch
@dalemcinnes18345 жыл бұрын
@@mitchlees9622 Hi Mitch, the Bangood system is a bit confusing and it can be a bit frustrating but it is doable. First off it is not a kit. You order each piece separately so you get what you want. Steve is right and you can put the quantity of each item you want including the tool holder. Later if you decide you want more of something you can order more of that particular piece. It actually works good once you understand it. As Steve said just put it in your cart and then you can go and look at your cart and check and decide before you place your order. If you decide you do not want something it will not let you go to zero items but you can uncheck it. It will still be there but will not be in your order when you place your order. Even then when you place your order you can back out before paying and redo your order. Hope this helps. Dale in Canada

Thanks Steve and Dale, I'll have a stiff drink then brave the Banggood site once more, although it looks like some of the items are now sold out. Ken.

Ken Henman Thanks, I will have another go. One of the things that is confusing is that whilst I want the smallest model, the 000 each time I try and get a 000 holder it say in the ‘size’ box a number. I think it is referring to the holder number and not the actual size, but just a little concerned that I end up with the larger tool holders. Must be an age thing on my part! I will have to get my granddaughter on the job. Mitch
