This ride on lawn mower is rusty and rotten. It has been left outside for years. I am planning on restoring this ride on mower next year but today is all about getting it running and driving.
Thank you to my Patrons

You don't need any disclaimers about the genuineness of the condition of your machines. You're as genuine as they come. Thank you so very much for taking the time and trouble to shoot and upload your repair/restoration projects, they engross me as much, if not more, than many Hollywood blockbusters. With admiration from Nagaland, India.

I have two Vanguard engines that i got from my employer. These were once the power on two of our pressure washers that were upgraded to electric motors. One engine is a 16HP, and the other is 21HP. Both are horizontal shaft, and were run on propane their whole lives. I plan to build small tractors powered by these.

Great job getting the engine a carb back up and running. Interesting to see the vertical shaft version of that engine uses a Mikuni. The horizontal shaft version uses a much more expensive Nikki carb. Almost looks like something found on an automobile. One of my favorite engines.

Alright, another great video sir! I do love those Briggs Vanguard engines as well. I had one on an older mini bike I had years ago as a kid. Thing ran perfectly every time, no problems with it. FYI Peerless was a sister company of Tecumseh. The Peerless Transmission company assets were purchased from Husqvarna in June of 2018 by James Grafft of Janesville, Wisconsin. Mr. Grafft also owns Certified Parts Corporation. He has a long history of buying companies that need stabilizing, but have strong product offerings that the manufacturing world still requires for customer needs. The first company he acquired was Arctic Cat in 1982. After two years of diligent management, the company was back in production and financially secure. Arctic Cat is part of Textron Corporation today. In more recent years, Certified Parts Corporation purchased the assets of Comet Clutch and the TecumsehPower Engine business along with a number of other companies serving multiple industries that include metal fabrication, injection molding and electric motor repair.

Compare @21:30 and @27:35 and tell what's different. I'll tell you. In the first part the flat side of the butterfly valve was the low side of the disk, in the second part when it's replaced, the rounded edge is now the low side. Yes the motor runs, but it'll have a harder time pulling fuel on startup/warmup with the choke valve like that.
@MachineryRestorer

Are you sure you're looking at it right. Remember the carburettor has been turned around between those two clips.
@josephgermany7446
@josephgermany7446 10 ай бұрын
@@MachineryRestorerif you point the lever towards your body, in the first clip I pointed out, the high side is on the left, in the second clip, the high side in on the right. Regardless of which way the carb is facing, I'm using the part that it attaches to and a set orientation for reference.
@MachineryRestorer
@MachineryRestorer 10 ай бұрын
@@josephgermany7446 oh you are referring to the part where the choke cable connects to it? If so I actually did a repair on that off camera. It had spun on the shaft so I welded it back to where it should have been.
@josephgermany7446
@josephgermany7446 10 ай бұрын
@@MachineryRestorer yes I caught that, but I'm saying I'm referencing from the side that the shaft goes into the carb. If you look from that side while the shaft is pointing at your body which side of the butterfly valve sits higher in the first clip versus the second clip, the left or right? It's very minor, but it does affect how much vacuum is applied during startup with the choke engaged
@Player-lk1pm
@Player-lk1pm 9 ай бұрын
i've noticed that as well. i'm glad i remembered to search before posting but i still think you're right, joseph. pretty certainly the butterfly valve is not in the same orientation as before (comparing the two timestamps you mentioned). weird things to notice - "hang on, i've seen that bit differently before"

Just a note, WD40 is not so much a lubricant as it is a water displacement product. The best spray lubricant I've used is made from gear box oil and acetone, in equal quantities. It must be shaken before spraying as the two components dont readily mix (kinda like oil and water). A good commercially available product is PB blaster.

Tiny complaint/issue at 29:15 you fogot to put the C-clip/E-clip back on the choke shaft that holds that nylon washer up against the shaft seal. It's seems to be missing from the parts you have laid out at 27:04 for the reassembly of the choke shaft install.
