Machining Inconel is not for every shop. Trevor thought (hoped) that Kremin would never work with Inconel again. He was wrong. Very, very wrong. Kremin is going to start cutting Inconel for a new client, but this time around, they're sharing everything they'll learn along the way with you. ⁠​⁠@@KreminIncManufacturing keep learning and growing. A few years ago, I didn’t know anything about machining, and not to long ago, machining SST 304 would result in a lot of broken tools. But over time, you grow and master them. Inconel is a different beast, one which I haven’t had the misfortune of trying yet, but I would like to take it on someday. Regardless, I can’t wait to see how a “non-titan” person takes it on.

Inconel isn’t that bad to work with. Sure, it’s tough on tools, you definitely need to be proactive on monitoring the tool life but man once you get it dialed in you can achieve a gorgeous finish. It’s also extremely ridged so you can do a lot with very little work holding. By no means is it my favorite material to work with, but it’s definitely not my least.

At my old shop I would use those side ways cnmg to rough out the face and OD and ID. Inconel kills your inserts

The worst I have done was taking 1/2" Dia A286 and having to Swiss it .200 DOC per side. No thank you on Inconnel.

We do a lot of A286 on the swisses - inconel we try to keep on the mills…😉

I used to drill 6" holes in Inconel wi5h a h.s. spade drill ,so what!! G.E grade 883 carbide worked well !!?
