Machining Nylatron Bushings

I used some of this stuff for some bushings in an old square baler. The owner of the implement provided the material. He says it holds up much better because the dust and grit end up in the bushing better than bronze, and don't end up scoring shafts nearly as badly. He didn't think they lasted any longer than properly lubed sintered bronze though. Awesome stuff to machine. I kept the cut offs and made some bushings for an old reloading press. Glass smooth on chrome shafts! I'll order myself some when I get to the bottom of my delrin and bronze bushing material pile. It's not much more expensive than other bushing materials, either.

GSM contains molybdenum disulfide to improve load bearing. GS is extruded and does not contain MoS2, in case anyone is still interested. Thanks for the interesting video.

GS is extruded grade and GSM is cast grade. Nylatron is amazing stuff, I'd definitely use it to replace most typical bronze bushings.

I used to machine a bit of that stuff years ago for bushes on bobcat arms , great material . Cheers .

I've been doing more and more with it. Works great. I actually have a friend who makes gears out of it.

We have not come across that material before but I have just checked and it is available here in the UK, so we will have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing the information

What is the diameter of the drill at about 2min 50sec? Did you have to do anything special to prevent the material from trying to grab that large drill and yank it out of the taper? Thanks... I am going to give Nylatron a try the next time that need to make a 2 in OD bushing...

Would you use this on a medium sized skid steer bucket pins? I was thinking of going with 4140 but I wonder about that nylatron. Thanks

I've used it on a lot of jobs. The largest was a big excavator bucket bushings. Held up well.

@@battleaxefabandmachine depending on length, about 3/16-1/4". Longer can be thinner. I do several 3" long 1/8" wall.
