Howdy, fellow gearheads and metal aficionados! 🤖 Ever wondered what it takes to tackle a colossal 3000KG pinion shaft using technology straight out of the history books? 📜 Well, hold onto your hats because the Pakistani Machinists are about to blow your mind with their vintage prowess! 🇵🇰💥
In this jaw-dropping KZbin extravaganza, we're diving deep into the world of machining, where grit, grease, and a pinch of old-school charm come together like peanut butter and jelly! 🥜✨ Watch in awe as our intrepid machinists fire up their trusty horizontal lathe, ready to shave off chunks of metal with the finesse of a sushi chef! 🍣💪
But wait, there's more! Ever heard of a double helical pinion shaft? Neither had we until these wizards decided to take on the challenge! 🌀 Watch as they twist and turn their way through the metal, creating a masterpiece that'd make Da Vinci himself raise an impressed eyebrow! 🎨👨‍🎨
Now, hold onto your seats as we switch gears (pun absolutely intended) and head over to an old American machine straight out of Toronto! 🇺🇸🍁 It may be vintage, but boy does it pack a punch! With a flick of a switch and a sprinkle of magic dust, our machinists dive headfirst into cutting teeth with the precision of a neurosurgeon! ⚙️🔬
But hey, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was this pinion shaft! It took these dedicated maestros a whopping 21 days to complete the project! 🗓️🕰️ From dawn till dusk, they toiled away, fueled by nothing but determination and cups of chai! ☕️🔧
So, buckle up and join us on this wild ride through time and technology, where the past meets the present in a symphony of sparks and steel! 🎶✨
Don't forget to hit that like button, subscribe for more epic machinist adventures, and remember, if it ain't broke, don't fix it-unless you're a machinist, then you can fix anything! 🛠️💥

Well, for 1 off jobs, it pays to know how to use the old equipment. I recently retired from being an aircraft structural mechanic and fabricator for 53 years. I used all of the old time forming equipment. English wheels, planishing machines, rollers, shrinking and stretching equipment. When the aircraft company tells you, that it will be 6 months before you can have a formed part, and I could have it for you in under 2 weeks, I was always given the task. You guys do amazing work.

I often wondered where all the old machines went, After most shops moved to C.N.C, I had many large lathes even larger than this One i remember well was a Churchill lathe and i had many dean smith and grace lathes, which i treasured , shame those arts are mostly lost but good luck to this shop may you manufacture for peace.

In the end a product is provided for a larger machine that needs it. Many people were employed and made salaries that fed families . Not everything can be made in a pristine, high tech, surgery room environment. Many have to do with what they have . If it meets the need then mission accomplished.

I think most of the comments are complimentary to these men. They did what they had to do. No one was hurt so they applied sufficient safety practices. I bet there are not many machine shops in the US sthat could handle this! It would be returned to factory for a rebuild - for a lot more than these guys charged - IMHO. Thanks for the video.

The gear teeth are all they are concerned with although it seemed pretty obvious the temperature was not the same on both gear faces. May not matter so much. It's probably going in an ancient machine that is probably slow speed. And no telling what steel grade this was, probably made from miscellaneous scrap steel. One typical issue in this part of the world is that they are pretty good at making something that looks like the original, bt their approach to metallurgy and material science is very crude at best. They probably overwork the machinery too. I've been in some 100 year old mills where they ad this size of equipment and it was originally built to last if you took good care of it.

Im a machinist in America and I wear and old sportcoat in the shop. It has a lot of handy pockets. I’m betting they have them because formal office wear is out of style in America and tons of it is going to Goodwill. A lot of them end up packed into bales and sold to rag buyers by the ton. Then they get shipped overseas and sold. There’s a guy who pioneered the process and he’s a multi millionaire now. I started because I thought it would be funny to wear an Armani suit jacket to work in a machine shop, but I found them to be very comfortable and handy. I eventually moved on to a Harris Tweed light wool one from Brooks Brothers of London

When We Closed Long Beach Naval Shipyard we had all this old technology that was fantastic. We had brand new 50 year old “Shipley & Lodge” lathes and mills which had 25 foot beds and 25 speeds. Most had only 200 hours on them. We sold them to many foreign buyers because America is so gullible and stupid to believe the think tank analyst opinion. This is why we had to retire the Iowa Class Battleships because we no longer have a yard capable of working on these formidable ships. My only fault is these Men have no safety culture to protect their health and bodies. Otherwise they are excellent craftsmen.
