I found out why the machine was pausing at the tool changes...Peter had answered the question on the Masso forum: "If you don't want to press cycle start before each tool change turn off optional stop in Fusion and also also turn off tool preload." I tried it and it works now!

Could you do a Fusion CAM tutorial on how you created a setup for a custom machine?

Super cool watching this project come along. I have a prolight cnc mill too altho I'm definitely missing some of your upgrades.

Fantastic work! One thing that I did was installed a longer nozzle to wrap over the spindle as no not blow chips into my tool holders and tool rack.

Thanks! I like that idea..it does make a mess of things!

There were tapped holes on the other side of the spindle block also, so it was easy to just switch it to the other side. I haven't seen any updates in a while...how's your Prolight & enclosure coming together?
@juansalgado6212 Жыл бұрын
@@diyfiberlaser excellent! just be a bit carful, the smaller threaded holes on the side are meant for tighten the gibs. over tightening the center threaded hole might over tighten the gibs and cause excessive wear. I made a quick enclosure with some melamine board and acrylic sheets for the door. I am currently remaking it on a smaller base to save as much space as possible. Not sure what will be my material this time around. Keep up the amazing work!

@@juansalgado6212 Thanks for the tip! I double checked to make sure my mounting screws weren't bottoming out on the gib set screws and luckily there was still a little clearance.

I bet you got chips between the tool holder and taper. And you set tool height without the air blast working on the TH setter. Finally, I'm not sure Al is the right material for a vice hold down. Keep up the great content man!
@diyfiberlaser Жыл бұрын
You're right, as Juan suggested I should blow the mist & chips in the other direction away from the tool rack. The tool setter air blast didn't fire because of the machine pausing between tool changes...it works now that I learned how to post process correctly. I guess I am incrementally upgrading the clamps: 3D printed > aluminum > guess I'll have to make some steel ones now that I have a better understanding of how the machine works.

You may have fusion set to manual tool change somehow or there is an m0 (stop) or an m01 (option stop with option stop active on the control)
@Bakafish Жыл бұрын
I'm not crazy about making those out of Aluminum, nor making them out of 2 pieces. Vice fixturing really calls for monolithic steel.

i noticed the chips on the tool setter also. i love the fact that you did every aspect of the setup...and showed the good and the bad. great stuff travis. Im getting ready to full cnc my new to me International Hobbies IH600 Mill. Ill hopefully do a video of the process...your tool changer is perfect what I'm trying to achieve. Question why did you not tap on the ProLight also? Great video. Your enclosure is awesome BTW
@diyfiberlaser Жыл бұрын
Thanks, the Masso doesn't support rigid tapping at the moment, also my spindle doesn't have an encoder on it.

This has kinda been said but I bet there is a toggle button in your NC file editor for your Fusion post processor it’s probably toggled on to stop at a tool change.
@CompactFlesh Жыл бұрын
hopefully your vice doesn‘ t go flying with aluminium clamps. Aluminium is not as flexible as steel and deforms easily and you loose clamping force. I would keep an eye on them. Nevertheless nice first job on the Masso 👏

I’m not sure how well you like the vise you have but you should look into a Saunders machine works mod vise. They are incredible, low profile, and have soft jaws, talon grips and serrated jaws. Side note do you hate the half slide doors or they ok? I think I would rather two half doors on hinges to gain full access to the work.

I was thinking of a barrier on the left side.
@zitt Жыл бұрын
I was thinking an Air blanket or curtain to keep the chips off the tool change taper. A plastic barrier would interfer with teh tool change. OR maybe some kind of air blast to keep chips off the tapers. Still no ducting on the electronics enclosure. :(
@diyfiberlaser Жыл бұрын
I just moved the mist sprayer to the other side of the spindle so it will blow the chips away from the tools now...one of those things I didn't consider until I saw it in action.
