Used to use basically the opposite of this near daily! Aligning a non-rotating punch shaft to non-rotating redraw assy. Put the indicator on the punch tooling and spin the punch tooling on the shaft to sweep the redraw die.

Im no expert but wouldnt the bearings tolerances cause issues. It would get you close but not exact. A few thousands might make a difference. Either way it is outside of the box/housing type thinking
