This may be the most incredible project to come from the retro community, I never even considered the possibility of reverse engineering the motherboard and then engineering an improved motherboard, and for this to come from one guy blows my mind, it’s the engineers and modders like mathijs that makes this community so great, and the modders and KZbinrs like yourself macho for shining a light on these projects and then being able to dumb it down to be easily understandable and simple enough for anyone to get into modifications, so thank you mathijs and macho, can’t wait see what’s next, I’m hoping this leads to reverse engineered boards for other handhelds

It's great to see that someone has found a way to not only revitalize Game Gear boards, but also remove a lot of the clutter from them. It helps to simplify the modding process since the original Game Gear was a rat's nest of wires. Honestly I'd love to see some other hand helds done this way, especially considering we're slowly losing stock over time. It'd be nice to see some previously thought dead GBAs, Neo Geo pockets, or some other handhelds be able to be brought back into use. Also isn't that TV tuner analog only anyways? I'm fairly sure those signals don't exist anymore (at least in the US).

With none of the knowledge needed to do it myself I had to look to commissioning it from someone, unfortunately no one I thought to talk to seemed very interested and I ended giving up on it. Glad to see someone else with the needed skills eventually had the same idea. The thing I'd like to see going forward that I'd thought of at the same time is the main board being reduced in size and a new smaller more comfortable case being made with a larger single battery compartment and made with the new lcd screens in mind. If it's possible maybe include the power, sound & main boards all in one single board or maybe even a Bluetooth module for headphones.

This is awesome. I’d like to see him make modern boards for NES with native RGB output or some similar projects.

That's actually what they used to do for the analogue nt. The original (not mini) units were made with parts harvested from damaged consoles and put onto a new board. I'm not sure why they stopped making them that way. Maybe it was just cheaper to use an fpga.

This is really amazing, and I think stuff like this is the endgame for game preservation. I'm very glad to see that it's open source as well. I'd like to see more motherboards like this made in the future for other systems, maybe with some options to use an FPGA to substitute in for the proprietary chips.

That's really cool -- I love to see replacements like this. -- Honestly, with all that empty board space, it would be cool to see Mathijs miniaturize it -- like to fit into a landscape GBA case or something -- so you could actually fit a GG in your pocket for once. -- That would be hecka rad.

That looks great, I recapped my Game Gear but it had been damaged quite a lot by the previous caps leaking. It does work still, but knowing there's a replacement board out there is reassuring!

I’d personally like to see more switch like mods to allow a dock for displaying to TV and using a controller. Always loved that about the switch and to see it be brought to old consoles would be amazing. Anyways, merry Christmas Tito looking forward to stopping by another stream sometime 🍻

The vision SEGA had for the game gear was waaaay ahead of its time. You had a full colour handheld system that you could even watch modern video entertainment on it using the TV tuner.

OMG YOU FINALLY MADE ONE!! I left a comment on your Zelda GBA vid about making a game gear like you did with the GBA because I'm a SEGA fan and I have a blue game gear and want to get mines done by you or buy one. This is so awesome and thank you!

Awesome work, and with the new shell it looks so good ! I wish he would do that for the original DMG gameboy, with built-in usb-c battery, internal pro sound, and all the cool stuff.

That's amazing! I've got two dead ones that I've been trying to revive but no luck so far (tried replacing the caps with ceramic ones like in one of your previous videos), so if these boards become more available that would be great to revive them and add them to my collection. I'm wondering if some sort of FPGA chip that mimics the original ASICs would be more viable in the future - maybe that's a job for MVG and other coding/firmware experts? All the same, hoping to see more of Mathijs' work in the future, possibly in other handhelds like the Gameboy Advance. Thanks Tito!
