I left the island in 1978 alone ( i was 20 years then)for a better opportunity because of poverty ( I was very poor) with Rs 2500 then it was $150, to india thru Rameswaram by boat , Bombay karachi looking for a job after 6 months i reached Iran, in 1980 february i got a job as seaman, came back to sri lanka in end of 1981, stayed for 3 months left again , settle down in a country, Now 43 years gone like 43 days, This is unforgettable memory for me because my home was beside a paddy field, I love when the farmers sing while planting rice,

@@janath9118 Lastly i settled in Canada almost 43 years ago, married to a sri lankan, and have 4 kids, all four are completed university with masters and well settled, (my sincere thanks to my teachers who always positive advice, especially an English teacher without him i would have never had the courage to leave, the other 3 maths. islam teachers and sinhala language teacher who was a monk (who always tell me putta you will be ok wipe your tears) My kids are canadian born since they entered university. Now they have connected a couple of orphanage in sri lanka and one of them 6 months before gave me a surprise call from sri lanka orphanage, I Never forgot my root or the days i had nothing to eat, i remember my mum pluck cassava leaves, I helped my siblings build houses for them and financial help, Now every sibling have a bed to sleep before one room ( 2 Padura) my prayer always to my fellow citizens of sri lanka

For a person born after the time this video was shot, it is astonishing to see how much public space the Kandy Temple of the Tooth has confiscated as its grounds. According to this footage, Deva Veediya (Pavilion Street) connects directly with the main road that used to go in front of the temple (the road that was closed after the bomb attack and later confiscated). Informative video!

I always thought drinking straws for King Coconut were introduced in the early 2000s, but I was wrong-they were around even before the 1980s! Unbelievable. My gratitude goes to everyone involved in creating this video. I was just a one-year-old baby when this was filmed, and now, 43 years later, I have the privilege of seeing the country as it looked in 1980, the year I was born. Truly amazing! everyday I ask my self why can not you born in this time period.
