Thanks Gary. Brilliant tutorial. Having watched many of your iMovie tutorials and taken your iMovie course, I still have a particular problem with transitions. If I use the Cross Dissolve transition in between two video clips, the duration of the video clips is shortened by a couple of seconds. Any thoughts? Thanks Michael
@macmost
@macmost 3 ай бұрын
Yes. If you have two 30 second clips, and have a 1 second transition, then it uses the last second of your first clip and the first second of your last clip in that overlapping time for the transition. So the result is a 59-second final video.

How do you use a second monitor to extend your workspace in iMovie? I just bought a Lepow Portable Monitor and I can’t figure out why it is useful. How do you move something to the second screen? How do you select what to move over? I can’t manipulate anything on the second screen. How do you move it back over if you want to rearrange your screens?

Gary - Loved the tip about using trailers to expand the scope of creating titles for a movie. However, I could not edit the trailer content after converting and adding it to a movie. I had to edit it first in the trailer. Has this changed with recent releases? Kind of a pain.

Great Video,... Gary, How can I view my iMovie on Apple TV or a Samsung TV
@macmost
@macmost 2 жыл бұрын
On Apple TV you can use AirPlay mirroring to show almost anything on your Mac's screen. Or, you can play the exported video into the TV app and use Home Sharing in System Preferences, Sharing to access a video on Apple TV. I don't think there is an easy way to do it with a Samsung. You could always just upload to KZbin and watch it in the KZbin app (assuming you are a smart Samsung TV with apps).

Hi Gary Thanks for the info. I made a movie using photographs with transitions titles etc. saved it to ext hd. movie lib. It shows as mp4, but the file name shows MPEG-4 movie. I wish to insert the movie into a Pages document, which I plan to save in the Epub format. Is this the best way to have good quality and allow the reader to view the movie? Thanks for your comments.
@macmost
@macmost Жыл бұрын
Just try it with the mp4 video (mp4 = MPEG-4). See if that works for you and your audience. If not, you may have to try things and research some more. I don't create ePub documents so I can't be of much help.

@macmost

Videos are videos. There is no way to have a "button" or something in a video that is a link. But a platform can display videos and also have link functionality. Like KZbin allows you to place links at times in the video or in the description.

And you can reverse the start and end boxes, so having pasted the previous adjustment, go to the next clip, reverse the boxes, the old end box becomes the new start and the transition is completely smooth.

Hi Gary, please do a video on how to place a block of color ONLY behind your title. This makes the title pop. Not a banner, but a block of color. Many videos on KZbin do this, but there are no how-to videos. I called Apple's Creative Dept., and they said only way is to do a "picture in a picture." Please advise. Thanks much,

No. Video files don't have links in them. After you upload them to a site (like KZbin) the site may have that function as an overlay, but it isn't something you do in iMovie.

@macmost
@macmost 4 жыл бұрын
You can't just put a video on a disc. That's just a file on a data disc. You need to create specially-formatted video DVDs for use in DVD players. The video needs to be converted to a special format from the 1990s. You can get software to do that in the Mac App Store. Toast will do it, but you need to create a video DVD, and not a data one.

There are quite a few dvd authoring apps on the mac app store, but they all get really lousy reviews, from 1 to 2 stars. I have tried out several of them, and my advice is: don’t waste your money. I am using DvdStyler, and I am quite happy with it. It is free and open source and you can get it from sourceforge.

I’ve projected videos created with iPhone onto a 60 Inch LCD tv using an HDMI cable from my iPhone. No special video format needed. Seeing my iPad movie blown up to 60 inch...wow. I used the HDMI to Lighnight adapter for this. However, I now use USB C and haven’t tried it but there should be no problem showing plain iPhone video on the TV with just an HDMI adapter or hub.
