Initially you helped me get from Catalina to Sonoma 14.3.1 via OCLP 1.4.2 without USB. Greedy me wanted to upgrade to OCLP 1.4.3 to attempt an upgrade to Sonoma 14.4.1. Nonono I shouldn't have done that. Upgrading via 1.4.3 gave me the grey screen of death and it took me 1 whole week to figure out how to fix it. Sonoma was built from the ground up with SSD’s in mind, as it says in the desc, so HDD’s do work but will run at an unoptimised speed

I have a 2017 iMac running Ventura. I've tried the USB update method and get the firmware lock when trying to access the USB. I'm diligent about passwords and never created a firmware PW for this Mac. I don't know this password. I suspect one was created by a third party who installed a SSD. I've contacted them to no avail. Anyway, will the method described in this video work for me or am I likely to have issues?

How secure is the Open Core Legacy Patcher? Are you confident that the data will be protected?

Opencore legacy patcher is an EFI bootloader, so it is very unlikely that it even needs to access your data.

hello sir. i have a mac mini late 2012 on Monterey. I followed your steps and used 1.0.0 . I'm done with every step and now Im rebooting. In the picker I have Monterey and install Sonoma. BUT I CAN MOVE MY SELECTION to SONOMA. after 5 secs it will automatically boot on Monterey. In the settings in OPenCOre. I can set the Seconds to 0 for unlimited selection time but it will always go back to the default 5. I'm using a bluetooth mouse and keyboard but I've hardwired my keyboard already but still I can move the selection. Thank you.

Use the original gpu (Radeon HD 5770 for Mac Pro 2012) with Mac BIOS Edition in it. Coz custom gpu will make the boot option didn't show up

Boot into safe mode by pressing the power button for three seconds then holding the shift key for 10. Once booted go into system preferences and reset keyboard shortcuts to default settings. Then fully shut down and it should work.

I had the same problem on my 2012 MacBook Pro 9,5. so I started the process over again. I also noticed that when I checked my partition folder, Sonoma was an greyed out box w/ a line through it. So the second time around, I had my *Finder open the entire time while using Terminal* so I can check to make sure everything was running smoothly. *When it came down to the Terminal part, didn’t close terminal immediately. Instead, I waited until it finished making a copy and it told me it was successful. You will know when this happens if you see Sonoma up in Finder under the 16GB partition you made w/o a line through it.* Also, do not forget to *add the legacy patcher to your folder!* When everything was done, *I had near 700MB out of 16GB of storage left.* I closed my applications, restarted my laptop, then held options once the screen went black. When it booted up, I followed what he did-not nothing to chose a network-and everything worked (slow though). I still saw the exclamation point on my wifi bar and wifi networks errr showing up but I was able to successfully update. I’d like to note that around 16 minutes remaining, my screen did freeze so I just left it as it.

When I came back, my laptop had restarted and new boot up options were there. I saw macOS Sonoma, my old disk, and I think Sonoma Installer, if I can remember correctly. I chose macOS Sonoma bcs it looked most like EFI and logged in. It was 1:41 at the time Andy screen was mostly black except my account PFP and the section where I enter my password but quickly changed to the apple logo and a bar with the words “About 28 minutes remaining…” under it. The bar was moving slowly. So slowly that at points, I thought it froze.

you have to temporarily connect a usb keyboard and mouse through a usb hub, because there are no drivers in Sonoma for usb 1 in older Mac's (bluetooth depends on that too). After installing Sonoma you have to install the root patches with Open Core and then after a reboot your (bluetooth) mouse and keyboard should be working again. The same goes for installing Ventura on older unsupported Mac's
