@@TheHipHopolypseyes it is still working fine. I do want to get the new Logic Pro 11, so I will be getting a Mac Mini M2 for that software. I am running the Apollo Twin X interface with Luna/Console, Native Access & Logic Pro X on the Big Sur OS, still. I did have to do a re-install of my UA Connect, but after I followed the uninstlall instructions on the UAD forum page, it has worked fine again.

Thank you so much for this. My 17 inch 2011 MacBook Pro has a new lease of life. One thing to note is that my installation took a very long time. We are talking hours. Even when I thought it wasn’t doing anything it was still grinding away. Many a time I had my heart in my mouth. SSD is what will go into it next.

I recently bought a secondhand 27" 2011 iMac for my graphic design studies and art and now I am able to download and use the Adobe and Office 360 products that I need. I finally managed to install Big Sur on my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15"- a machine that Apple declared "Obsolete" is now running Big Sur, there are a few bugs but for the most part, everything is running smoothly. And my fan doesn't run as much as when I had High Sierra. That's a plus. Now I can get a few more years out of this machine, all I need to do is replace the battery, clean the insides and replace the thermal paste and I'm good to go. Now if there OpenCore patch app to bring new life to my First Gen iPad - life would be grand. :) Thanks again Mr. Mac for the tip.

It's 2023. Worked wonderfully. First impressions of this video looked too complicated, so I thought I'd just ask the local 'Geek Squad'. But after seeing their reviews, I quickly decided I better try follow alone to this video first. (THIS IS THE FIRST MAC / APPLE ANYTHING I HAVE EVER OWNED) I just did this to my MacPro 2013. I used a previous patcher for Catalina however to run big sur on a mid 2010mbp is a treat. I was literally about to drop $1400 for a newer mac for business with the profession I am in & self employed. Hello, I have a question, I follow the same steps from this video to get to Monterey, I can’t figure out how I can get open core legacy patcher to enable system, restore, in other words, when you are trying to go back from an earlier time in your time machine you need to go under system recovery and it’s not allowing it, can you please let me know how I can enable this feature so when I restart I get booted from system restore? It would mean the world And always it could be very helpful if you could tell me step-by-step

Did this on my Late 2013 iMac and everything went smoothly. I especially appreciated the instruction to continue to hold the Option key during the reboot. I didn't realize you were supposed to do that when I tried the patcher for Ventura (which I tried first and failed because I didn't know). I was going to jump to Ventura, but I think I'll hang with Big Sur until they stop supporting it. Thank you!

@Mr Macintosh , I'm having an issue with two apps so far; Zoom, shows the camera, but no video. A program that I use to record voice tracks for a radio station (uses wine), sees the mic and lets me select it, but no audio. In Security & Privacy, there are no apps listed for either the camera or the microphone. Both work for other apps that are native, but the app list for both is grayed out. It's like the camera and mic are being denied access by the system. Is there anything I can do? Or should I try to re-install the OS?

​@@Vasolini same problem I'm having with Adobe Audition - iMac not recognising microphone. You have to go into recovery and charge it in terminal. But you can't do it with unofficial macros install😢. Am looking for a solution. Try a PRAM reset, that's what I'm gonna try

Just the thing I need for my iMac8,1 (Early 2008). I was having display glitches on Monterey 12.4, and was told that it is due to the TS1 graphics card. Latest version that works fine is Big Sur *11.2.3*. Will try this and see how it goes :)

@@Mr.Macintosh hello! When I use Big Sur 11.2.3 USB installer, I kept on getting a message (“you need a firmware update in order to install to this Mac” or something). I get this msg on all unsupported Macs I have. When I use a newer version of Big Sur, it installs just fine, but I still get the graphics glitches. My “dirty” solution: take out the SSD from my iMac, connect it to a Mac that natively supports Big Sur, install Big Sur 11.2.3 on the SSD (as external drive), put it back in the iMac after installation, followed the prompts for root patch install, build and install Open Core, install it on my SSD. Again, thank you for your guide! Really helpful!

I can't install Big Sur on my MBP late 2011. When boot to recovery and hit Install, got the message "this copy of the install macos big sur application is damaged and can't be used to install..." I thought that download was corrupted so re-download and re-create the usb installer couple of times but with same result. Any solution for that problem? Update: Found the problem, that was old USB flash drive. Purchase the new one 32gb Kingston and there was no problems anymore!

Video playback is good with Firefox, with Safari there is stuttering but no crashes.

This is fantastic, and has meant that my 5,1 Mac Pro can now receive all the new shiny Adobe updates, which it couldn't when in Catalina. Thank you very much. One issue remains: There is no Apple (or any other) menu bar appearing top left of the screen. I have the clock etc on the right, but the left is blank.

I commented about some issues originally but seemed to have solved them so far. Im still in the process of creating the installer....I really appreciate the video and walk through. I just ran the 0.5.2 patcher and looks like Big Sur is currently the newest version we can run on the Mid 2011 iMacs. I have core i5, 12gb ram, and sadly only a 1tb sata disk, my question is with the AMD Radeon Graphics HD 6770M 512gb. Will I have any issue's? I do not believe that card is Metal compatible. So I will need to install some graphics acceleration software right? Also when you went into disk utility to erase the hard drive for a new install of big sur. My format mode is set to Mac OS extended Journaled yours is APFS do I need to choose that one?

@@rubenperez217 You can run the newest OS no problem. I didn't realize it at the time. But with all the updates you shouldnt have an issue as long as its supported which I believe all versions are at this time.

I have asked this on the discord server for OCLP, but maybe someone reading this can help . . . I have a MBP 2011 with a fried discrete GPU. It's been running El Capitan fine for years now thanks to a RadeonDisable sh script you have to boot into Ubuntu on a USB flash drive to run. Obviously it disables the discrete GPU so the MBP runs off the iGPU. But any attempt to upgrade means that in short order I can't see anything on the screen as it reverts to the broken dGPU. I'm wondering if maybe I can install everything needed to an external SSD and then just swap the external for the internal? Anyone any better ideas?

It is my understanding that OCLP disables the discrete card by default. I installed it on mine and had to manually enable the discrete card.

All you need to do is run this nvram command to disable the dGPU. Once done, the os will not try to use the dGPU again. This is what I've done on all my 2011 MBPro's.dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/ACCEL.html#cannot-login-on-2011-15-and-17-macbook-pros

@@Mr.Macintosh Thanks so much for the link. Also is Mojave possible via the "Use existing MacOs Installer" option? I have some very high quality old audio gear with a 32bit control panel so need at least one old Mac to run Mojave. I know that OCLP is aimed at Big Sur + and they recommend dosdude's patcher for earlier OS's, but his page talks about a VERY involved way of disabling the dGPU far beyond my skills - compared to entering a line of code into nvram !!

I finally got this to work. I’ve tried several times over the last 6 months. The last thing I did was to format the drive to APFS prior to installing. Didn’t know for sure if that was the trick but it worked.

I'm having problems. Everything works just as you show on the video. My computer is a late 2009 Mac Pro. I get to the point where I'm Restarting from the Flash Drive. I selected the EFI Boot, then selected Install macOS Big Sur.The Apple logo shows up and get a blank screen. I don't know what to do next.

you are supposed to post install patch from the oclp GUI app it will help with graphical acceleration and many more kexts and fixes hope this solves your problem if not contact me and i will try to help :)

Thanks Brent & Harry!!! Tunis, this video was a lot longer and had an explanation that the new OCLP app will automatically install the post install patches after installing Big Sur. If for some reason this part fails, you can still install them manually in the OCLP app just like Brent and Harry said. The window will also tell you if the automatic patching worked or not because it will show a last install date.

Thank you SO much! I was running with Sierra for my late 2009 iMac, when I found a video upgrading to high sierra. It worked for a good 2 months until I needed Big Sur to run apps, so I couldn’t do anything on my computer. This tutorial took 2-3 days for me but it was worth it because it worked. I’m so glad it wasn’t a scam and I can finally run Google on my iMac again.

Much appreciated 2nd time doing this for a unsupported mac and it really gave me a fun project this Saturday doing it, I jus recently pulled a old mid 2012 out the ewaste bin repaired some corrosion on the power delivery and got it going so this jus made it a more modern machine, we’ll be going back in with a cheap ssd tho, took 4 hours total on this old spinner 😂

This saved my bacon. I was not able to upgrade the development environment on my Mac Mini 2012 without upgrading to at least Big Sur. At first, that didn't seem doable until I found this video. Fortunately, I was able to just upgrade the OS, instead of a wipe and new install.

I have MacBook Pro 7,0 mid 2010, as far as I got to was High Sierra, was going to give up on my Mac and returned it till I got cross your video, I followed every step and was no problem till I get stacked when I chose to install Venture from USB then I could go any further when my MacBook with a gif pic of Magic Mouse on the screen, it won”t let me enter or select… lucky me I have a usb keyboard was meant for my fire tv stick and use it on Mac to continue the installation and it did work… Thank you so much … All the best 👍🏼

Just did this on my 3,1 mac pro 2008. I got some kernel panics first time I booted off the SSD with Big sur on it, but it works fine now after resetting the PRAM a couple of times and restarting. Looks like I'm keeping this old cheesegrater abomination running for a couple more years at least! Thanks Mr.M!!
