Hi Scott ,just watched your video as i have the Sony 90mm macro on my A7iv but have not purchased a flash just yet as i am relatively new to more serious photography. Hopefully at some point i will be able to achieve those standard of images.

Fantastic! The Sony 90mm macro is a great lens and now's the time to get out with it and practice. Loads of subjects around at the minute as well. Hopefully some more macro content from me coming soon!👌👍

Too hot for me ! I have had to be up at dawn recently with my 90mm macro ! Well done Scott for getting out . Nice Skipper . Auto focus is great for strong sun light with the Sony !

Great video Scott. I use the same camera and lens as you for insect shots. I use autofocus 99% of the time. I do sometimes use an extension tube with the 90mm macro for a really small subject but my tubes have the through connections that enable electronic communication between camera and lens. I also use flash for insect shots nearly always, you would most likely be amused at my enormous flash setup but I need go no farther than 50m from my door hunting for insects. Keep producing the interesting videos.

Thanks Paul, one of the things I love about macro is the fact that you can literally do it on your doorstep. Must admit I'm really loving the flash setup as I have always been more of a natural light shooter but I think I'm a convert!!👍👍

@@scotttilleyphotography I use natural light for shots like say grass seed heads, when you want the background to have a dreamy bokeh with pleasant light. For insects though I use flash 100% so I can see every hair on the bumblebee.

Very interesting Scott. There are so many options for macro. Another I have found very good is the Raynox Macroscopic Lens M-250 that clips onto the front of the lens and increases the magnification by 3 times. It is a cheap option as well, photospecialist have got it at 50 euros. The univeral adapter that comes with it fits 52mm to 67mm lenses.

Thanks Paul I might take a look at the Raynox for a future video, it sounds very interesting! Great that it fits a variety of lens sizes as well. Thanks for watching mate!👍

Hi Scott, like yourself have found the set up you showed in your video with flash and defuser gives the most consistent results in most circumstances. Even If out and about with my bridge camera will even use the inbuilt flash with some form of defusion just to get that 'bit extra' out of a shot rather than leaving it to the vagrances of inconsistent natural light. ( As in the Weevil shot posted in your facebook group ) As always enjoyed the video. 👍

A real good video, thanks. Only just starting out and have the Sony A6700 with the 90mm macro lens. My problem is I can never quite get the subject sharp. it may be that as I press the shutter i introduce shake, is there any way of managing this please? Tried auto focus and manual focus but still happens.

Hi, I'm not sure what settings yiou are using but I tend to go with Auto ISO and then a shutter speed of 1/200 or higher depending on the subject. Aperture set to F8 as a starting point to get some depth of field. One thing that might help if your not doing it is to use high speed shutter so that when you press the shutter the camera will fire off multiple shots. That way you should get some images that are in focus on the eye of your subject. Hope that helps!👍

Hi Logan, I usually go for F8 to F11, really depends what affect I'm looking for. Sometimes I just want the eye in focus so will use a wider aperture. At other times I may even go to focus stacking to get a wider depth of field but this is only possible with more docile subjects.👍
