The zoom setting on the flash doesn't apply when you're using a diffuser, only with direct flash - the wider the better usually, depending on the diffuser, but with yours I would definitely experiment and see if you get less of a hotspot with 24mm setting!

Thanks for the tip! Something I hadn't considered and I will be checking out when I'm next doing macro. One of the best things about KZbin is being able to share our tips! Will pin this one for everyone👌👍

@@scotttilleyphotography it probably won't make a big difference with small diffusers, but it's important with bigger ones.

Thank you! I'm a complete newbee at photography in general. I've come to an age where have much more time on my hands. I'm a musician myself with 45+ yrs of learning and I still find myself very far from being accomplished in any way. It's a constant process of learning. Beside loving Nature which I consider being The Holy Symphony, I shoot as much as I can to try to get in peace with the basics. I'm watching hours of content everyday as I discover what an infinite universe of discoveries this wonderful art is. So much to discover and so little Time... I found invaluable information in this video, thank you ! I subscribe right away and go enjoy your teachings in your other videos! You sir sure make superb photos.

Hi, thanks so much for watching and for your kind comments. I am really glad you got something from the video. I have to say that the love of being out in nature fuels my photography. Even so, sometimes I find myself forgetting the camera and just savouring those moments in nature that inspire and lift the soul! 🙏👍

Great tips again Scott. I like as you say waiting for the subject to land on a flower that you are already focused on and you have chosen your background and composition before the subject gets there. Cheers Keith

Even though I've been into macro for a number of years now still found some great tips in this video Scott, very much like the new diffuser the dimensions look spot on for invert. photography as you mentioned in the vid. Can see that being a new purchase.! 👍

Great tips Scott I don't use flash myself but understand a lot of people do. it certainly helps on dull days. My latest tip for macro is don't worry so much about ISO these days ! The software ie. DXO and even lightroom Denoise is great. Also a tip I have just picked up from Keith Griffin and Roger Hance is to stack photo for depth of field (which they do hand held amazing). Again a new area of tech which if you have the facility on your camera is well worth giving a go, just keep still using your stance tip or use a monopod ! Truly blessed these with the equipment available 😀
@scotttilleyphotography Жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more Mark. I use DXO pureraw and the rrsults are amazing compared to just a few years ago. Will have to look into stacking hand held! We won't have to turn up soon mate😂 Thanks for watching👍

like your video. Thank you for tips. How do you fight with harsh light?
@scotttilleyphotography Жыл бұрын
Hi, I usually prefer to shoot on bright but overcast days to effectively remove the harsh shadows. On bright days using the flash does help to balance things out but ideally bright but overcast is the way to go. Thanks for watching 👍

Great video, Scott. I am not able to use my optical view finder to do focus peaking, do you suggest using your live view to get good focus and use focus peaking?
@scotttilleyphotography Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes you should be fine using the live view. I have used this method before but don't use it much as I would have to use glasses to see it so find it easier to use the view finder which is set up for my eyes.👍

I have seen very many YT videos on the subject, hence very many images, and it appears that many of your images have "hotspots/glare", which means that you need more diffusion - perhaps just a piece of parchment paper on you diffuser would help. Thanks for the tutorial.!
