An intermittent fasting vid I was watching ended with a count and logging of macros, like a really detailed tracking...with a special software and clicks for butter, clicks for eggs, clicks for cream in coffee... 😲 So I said let me look into these 'macros' since this was not 1st time hearing about them. I did a search "why track macros?" and voila... I think she did good with these explanations 👍

I'm currently in #teamprotein however the folks over in #teamcarb live longer I think and have healthier vital organs, which is a concern since I'm pre-diabetic. And even though that sounds counter-productive, I feel a detoxing effort is what my organs (kidney, pancreas, liver, gut, skin etc) really need at this point in my 52yrs.... I intend to make sure my #teamcarb transition is as healthy as possible... meaning I will avoid things like bread, rice and corn 👍

just discovered your youtube channel! im loving it. I tried all the diets out there, atkins, keto, vegetarian, vegan, strictly counting macros. I ended up losing weight but nothing stuck long term and I ended up gaining all the weight back. I love to workout. I now have a personal trainer too and he told me to STOP eliminating and stop dieting. I am now starting to practice portion control, which is hard, considering i am used to eliminating food from my diet. I also do not strictly count calories anymore. All these rules, i think just overwhelmed me thats why I kept gaining the weight back. Now, I just follow a guide by precision nutrition. a fistful of veggies,, palm of protein, cupped hand of carbs and thumb size of fat. Little adjustments here and there, like i eat a bit more carbs when I work out and limit them during the times I dont. Have you heard of this? its really helping me not feel deprived! i feel like it will work long term!

This video was so helpful! So much easier to understand than what I've read. For my body type it works better for me to be higher in protein than in carbs. I try to make sure most of the carbs I get are complex and I make sure I get the bulk of them after my workout. I've noticed a lot of carbs do make me bloated in overindulgence. I feel fuller longer with more protein in my meals. I'm keeping track of my macros (started in November) and I'm definitely #teamprotein 💪🏻 You listened meats under fat, but I've read it's considered a high protein source. Is it more one than the other??
@MindOverMunch
@MindOverMunch 8 жыл бұрын
+P3acexL0veScr1be So glad you found it helpful! Absolutely, our bodies will definitely respond differently to different ratios. I've found that more complex carbs make me bloated but fruit does not tend to do so. I also add protein to stay full!! Meat is definitely both protein and fat but depends on the source. Lean chicken, for instance, is more protein. Beef can have just as much fat as it does protein :) Same with fish. White fish tend to be lower in fat, but some fish like salmon, while high in protein, also contain a good amount of healthy fats :)

#teamcarbs I eat a sweet potato a day :) I'm studying to be a dietitian, and I have learned so much from you especially in videos like this where you break down nutritional labeling. I wanted to ask, do you have any schooling? Whether it be a nutritionalist or dietitian? (they are two different professions, as I'm sure you know. that's more so for anyone else reading.) but I have to say you are mimicking everything I'm learning. BRAVO!! :)
@MindOverMunch
@MindOverMunch 8 жыл бұрын
:) I'm so glad you're finding the channel enjoyable, thank you! I am mostly self taught. I do personal training and group fitness so I have some nutrition education that comes along with that, but most of my knowledge is from my own research and reading driven by my passion for food and health! :) in college I decided to not study nutrition or dietetics, because where you study really affects what you learn. There is nothing wrong with formal education, it's of course great, but nutrition is still such a new science and so many developments are still being made that different programs "preach" different things. I think 50 years from now we will know so much more and might be surprised by some of the things we are "told" to do now. It's amazing really! I decided to follow my other love (design) in college and do health as my passion project. It's of course become more than that now :) I'll never stop learning, and I love learning the different viewpoints and lifestyles that exist! Cheers!
@forksofnature
@forksofnature 8 жыл бұрын
+Mind Over Munch I'm studying dietetics too! And I couldn't agree more that what we learn now will somehow be changed in the future. Look at the changes in the nutrition world from high carb is better to low carb, low fat to high fat, etc. etc. In the end, though things will certainly change in nutrition research, and as dietitians we're responsible to keep up on continuing education credits to maintain our certification so we stay up to date on the current information. And, like you, I love learning so I'm very excited that this is built into my future profession for sure. I'd also like to applaud you for really keeping this video to the facts and stressing that not one macronutrient breakdown is better, and everybody's body will prefer different macro distributions. I always get nervous when people start touting that one particular diet is better, especially when lots of people can be watching. I'm happy to see that you're not doing that and simply providing everyone with great information as they begin their health journeys! Thank you! :)

I've got a friend with PKU- so she can't have a protein based diet. Shes team carb (even though shes trying to lose weight on it with mixed results- those simple carbs trip her up.) I've got a friend with a neurological disorder, she functions best on a lot of animal products, shes team protein. Aaaaand then I have the friend with fibro- she gets gut blockages if she has too much fiber. she avoids carbs and has to be careful about veg. Shes team fat.

Thank you. I learned a lot from this, it is something that I have learned in the past, but didn’t fully understand. I still have some questions even now. But I just wanted to say that I’ve lost 20 lbs over the past 4 months, and I did not do any sort of low carb. I just did low calorie and worked my ass off at the gym. I’m at a healthy weight now. Before I lost the 20lbs, I was at the high end of having a healthy BMI. I was right there at the end of that range. So, now I’ve lost the 20 lbs and am feeling pretty good so I’m trying to learn how to really get a tone, lean body. It seems so hard but I’m going to keep trying.

A good starting point for people wanting to follow macros, are 50/30/20 So 50% carb, 30% fat and 20% protein. This offers a reasonable balance and easily attainable through diet and not supplements.

Hello, my name is James Matthews and I am the admin of a new group page called Good Vegan & Vegetarian Recipes From All Over The Word. This is a group for those that are interested in a primarily plant-based diet and are looking for great healthy information related to whole-foods, plant-based diet and living. A whole-foods, plant-based diet is a way of eating that celebrates plant foods and cuts out unhealthy items like added sugars and refined grains. Plant-based diets have been linked to a number of health benefits, including reducing your risk of heart disease, certain cancers, obesity, diabetes and cognitive decline. I wanted to create a group page where people could get excited about plant-based food and a healthier lifestyle. A place where we can inspire one another to achieved goals and a group where we can share photos, recipes and information with other fellow plant-based people. This group will offer products, websites and services to help us live a healthier lifestyle. Feel free to share recipes, pictures, ask questions and more! I would like this page to stay on the topics of vegan, vegetarian and plant-based Whole Foods. Feel free to tweak recipes if you are gluten free, oil free, etc. and ENJOY! facebook.com/groups/172559164150497/?ref=share

I have always thought that dieting is eating only green vegetables and drinking water. Agoge Diet proved me wrong. I am eating delicious and nutritionally rich food and still reaching my fitness goals.

If fiber is a carbohydrate and a carbohydrate is a macronutrient, how come 'fiber' is not considered to be a macronutrient? Is it because only the carbs that can be broken down and used for energy can be considered 'macronutrients'?🤔

Protein is my favorite, 2nd fat, 3rd carbs. I lost weight on high protein and low carb plus exercise and my green tea of course. From 158lbs to 120lbs.

Appreciate your condensed information though there is some incorrect viewpoints. First of all, your body does not NEED carbohydrates. It is not an essential macro. Second, the idea that 'saturated fat' causes heart disease is just not supported by the science. Saturated fat has been demonized for the last 50 years but there is not any scientific evidence to support it without taking into account other factors. Also there is no correlation with high cholesterol and cardiac events. As a matter of fact, studies have shown that people with low cholesterol did not have any fewer cardiac events than those with high cholesterol .Also, the ratio of trigylcerides to HDL is the predictor of heart attacks, not how high your LDL or overall cholesterol is.

Wrong be afraid of sugar in fruit. or any carb. Carbs Creeps in your diet you start to use sugar as source of energy instead of fat if you doing Keto Carnivore lifestyle way of eating with intermittent fasting.

Macro nutrients arent called so because 'we need them in large amounts' its because they are made up of monomers or smaller micronutrients that we get from breaking them down
